This edition of our Quarterly Flyer finds some of you wrapping up harvest while others are just getting started. What a year this has been. No one needs to be reminded that 2019 has been a challenge. Nearly every customer I’ve talked to throughout the growing season is anxious to put this year behind them and start fresh in 2020.

There are lots of reasons to not feel good about this past year: razor-thin profit margins, the ongoing trade war, a tough growing season, a delayed harvest for many, and much more. With a list that long, it can be hard to maintain a positive outlook – but staying positive is worth the effort. Research shows that positive people live longer, have better relationships, run better businesses, and simply feel better about themselves.

Like you, we are in this business for the long haul, and that requires planning. As our company prepares for 2020, I think about using two instruments, metaphorically-speaking, in our planning process: a telescope and a microscope. The telescope represents the long view – what do we want to achieve over the longer term? What is our vision for success? The microscope represents a more detailed view – what do we need to adjust or change to make our long-term vision a reality?

So, what does vision and planning for the long term have to do with positivity? First, we all need to lead with optimism and the firm belief that something good is going to happen to our mutual businesses in 2020. Then we need to take a minute to think about our businesses, choose one thing to be grateful for, and focus on that. You cannot be blessed and stressed at the same time! And finally, get rid of those energy vampires – the negative people who tend to suck the life out of us and our businesses. Remember, winners don’t complain!

Concert Thank You Note

21st Century Equipment wants to extend their gratitude to the community members, businesses and farmers who came together to support our local farmers.

At the concert, over $195,000 was raised with 100% of the proceeds going to the Fort Laramie Canal Breach Disaster Relief Fund to support area producers affected by the canal breach and the tunnel collapse. In addition to the concert ticket proceeds, local businesses and individuals donated tuition to four different area colleges; football tickets for UNL, UW, and CSU; Rockies tickets; four totes of seed corn; two halves of beef; lick tubs; roof repair gift certificates; and a new Honda walk-behind mower.

Software Update To improve user experience, John Deere is rolling out a software update for their Gen 4 4600 display. You can expect this release in December, to coincide with the 19-3 software release.

Deere has also updated their user agreement for those customers who have opted out of their anonymized machine/production data and have shared data with a third party, like their dealer. The revised language is as follows:

In recent weeks there has been some buzz in the industry, on social media, and in public conversations that John Deere Financial (JDF) is exiting the leasing business. Nothing could be further from the truth. These rumors are greatly exaggerated and fundamentally not true.

John Deere Financial is a partner to 21st Century Equipment and a partner to our farmers and ranchers in need of financial tools necessary for the acquisition of equipment. Recently, JDF did announce some changes to their lease programs that affect the disposal of the leased asset when the lease matures. Potentially, these changes could modestly impact lease residual values, but the walk-away lease option or the purchase option from JDF at the maturity of the lease is alive and well – now, and yes, after the first of the year.

New Staff Anthony Brauer has joined our Holyoke Service team as a new Utility Tech. He is originally from Denver, CO, and attended the Lincoln College of Technology. His work background includes Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes and Hyundai dealerships, and cattle feeding. In his free time, Anthony likes to build and sell furniture, raise cattle, and spend time with his wife, Brianna.

Evan Hansmeier is our new Product Specialist for Sprayers, working out of the Ogallala, NE, location. He is originally from the area and is a recent graduate from UNL with a degree in Ag Business.

His previous work experience includes Hansmeier Land & Cattle as well as UNL. In his free time, Evan likes to camp and go hiking.
