Pavilion Chair + Deputy Chair

Taking a Lead for Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust is looking for a new Chair and Deputy Chair to lead the Board through the next phase of its work.

The Trust manages The Pavilion on the Park and its associated projects, including Cycles4All and Sensory4All, designed to include people of all abilities. The Pavilion is located next to Fleming Park on Kingfisher Road, Eastleigh, and hosts a large range of weekly and occasional community events for all ages and abilities. It has one full time and five part-time members of staff plus a team of 80 enthusiastic volunteers. The Trust has recently built an £80K external store and an impressive new £800K Annexe.

The Trust is an incorporated charity, managed by a Board of Trustees. The Board seeks to appoint a Chair and Deputy Chair who are keen to contribute their enthusiasm and skills to help steer its extensive community work to meet the challenges and opportunities in the coming years.

The time commitment, for the newly elected voluntary posts, is four evening meetings a year plus occasional additional meetings as and when required at the convenience of participants.

Volunteers for Eastleigh Community Games Volunteers are needed to help at the Eastleigh Community Games on Saturday 18 June, 12 noon to 4pm. The Community Games is a community engagement event delivered by a team of local exGames Maker volunteers for the last few years.

The event was inspired by the 2012 London Olympics as a way of encouraging local communities to become more physically active and also to become more involved through volunteering.

The free event provides more than 20 taster activities to the local community to encourage them to get more active within their communities.

It aims to be totally inclusive and support anyone with any disability, long-term illness or life-limiting illness to take part. In the past taster activities have included sports such as Wheelchair Rugby, Boccia and Volleyball, recreational activities such as Cycling and Baton Twirling, and leisure activities such as Art and Craft.

The taster activities are delivered by local clubs who want to increase awareness of their activities and encourage more people to participate. People who try an activity that they would like to participate in regularly will be signposted to local clubs that they can join. As well as taster activities, there’s a programme of events including an opening ceremony with performances from local groups and clubs and fete-style stalls.

The event has a number of attractions to encourage families to attend and participate including a smoothie-bike and climbing wall.

During the event the volunteers will encourage people to take part by using a passport card system; participants will get a stamp on their passport card for each activity they try and are rewarded with a certificate after completing six or more activities.

SportWorks Activator In 2014, Eastleigh Borough Council’s Sport and Active Lifestyles Team received a Sport England CSAF grant to increase adult participation in sport and physical activity in the Borough of Eastleigh.

Part of this application was to deliver 15 Roadshows a year at major events across the Borough, promoting healthy, active lifestyles Volunteering Matters Page 2

amongst its residents and advertising local opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity – including Eastleigh Borough Council’s SportWorks and HealthWorks initiatives.

To deliver these roadshows between May and October 2016 we require a team of Activators to help set up, run and pack away the Roadshow, but most importantly to engage and inspire local residents to be active! Please note this is a voluntary role. Main Responsibilities:  Help to set up and pack away the Roadshow Spider Dome, Smoothie Bike, Signage, Information stall and activities.  Man the smoothie bike, ensuring it is used correctly and safely.  Oversee the Crazy Catch Challenge and keep a record of adults and children scores.  Engage with the public to promote local opportunities.  Encourage adults to complete the SportWorks participation survey.

Volunteers should have good communication and interpersonal skills – a willingness to engage with the public and inspire them to get active.

Eastleigh Museum We are looking for a friendly person to work on reception at Eastleigh Museum on a Friday afternoon 12.454pm. The role involves welcoming visitors, serving refreshments and serving customers in the shop. We also need of cover for alternate Saturdays 9.45am-2pm.

Pudbrook Day Centre, Botley A volunteer is needed on a Wednesday at Pudbrook Day Centre. Volunteers assist with the running of the centre, which provides services for up to 12 people with dementia who live in the southern parishes of Eastleigh Borough. This includes assistance with activities, arts, crafts, games etc and help with serving drinks, lunches and washing up. No personal care is involved, it is all about helping members to have an enjoyable day.

Servers for Age Concern Lunch Club

Pets as Therapy Volunteers

Servers are needed to set out a hot meal at the Age Concern Lunch Club on a Thursday 12 noon to 1.30pm. The food is delivered to the Age Concern building and the volunteers' role is to set it out on the tables for the lunch club members. The volunteers will also have a free lunch.

Pets as Therapy provides befriending and therapy with dogs and cats.

Volunteers whose dogs or cats have been behaviour tested provide visits to registered establishments in their community, thus benefiting people in care homes, hospitals or special schools. Over 18 only.

Cook Needed for Botley Over 60's Lunch Club

Nutrition and Information Signposter A local GP practice is running a 6 month pilot scheme in their surgery, where older people will be offered an opportunity to have information about diet and eating habits when they attend the surgery, and is looking for a volunteer to fulfil this role.

The volunteer should be someone who likes talking to people, who is interested in health issues and understands the importance of confidentiality. Full training will be given and expenses paid. Information about places to signpost people will be regularly updated Must be over 18.

Do you enjoy cooking? Would you like to make an important contribution to village life in Botley? A cook is needed to prepare a two-course meal for the Botley Over 60’s Lunch Club on a Wednesday at the Botley Centre for 40 weeks of the year. The lunch is for 26 people, if all the members are able to be there. The cook buys the food, prepares and cooks it, while other volunteers lay the table and wash up after. The team is usually there from 10.30am and the hall is booked till 2pm, but they usually finish about 1.30pm.

This role might suit a pair of friends who could either cook together or take it in turns.

Admin for Botley Over 60’s Lunch Club A volunteer is needed by the Botley Over 60’s Lunch Club to book the hall, book transport for the group (including compiling the passenger list), take members’ money, do the banking and launder the tablecloths. The group meets on a Wednesday, 40 weeks of the year, at the Botley Centre.

Botley Neighbourcare Botleigh Neighbourcare is looking for drivers with D1 entitlement (you can check this on your driving licence) to drive their minibus for organisations and social outings. They also need volunteer drivers, using their own cars, to take local people to medical appointments (45p per mile expenses paid). They are looking for volunteers who would like to help others, have a listening ear and a cheerful disposition.

QE2 Activity Centre The QE2 Activity Centre at Manor Farm Country Park, Bursledon, is looking for a caring person to join a committee of about fifteen people to oversee the running and development of the centre. The Centre provides Day Services, holidays and activity sessions for people of all ages with additional needs, including learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and sensory impairment.

Eastleigh Oxfam Shop— Volunteer Locally to Make a World of Difference Eastleigh's Oxfam Shop specialises in books, music and home-ware. Core volunteers are needed for the day-today running of the shop, operating the till, serving customers and sorting donations. Volunteers generally do a four-hour shift, morning or afternoon. It is an ideal role for someone with a passion for reading or music - or someone with an eye for collectibles.

In addition to the core task of running the shop, there is scope for volunteers who can create attractive window displays, identify specialist items for online sale, and photograph items for online sale.

Join a happy team raising funds to combat poverty in 90+ countries. As Oxfam says, "We won't live with poverty. Join the movement to end it."

Volunteers for Solent Mind’s Heads UP Project Solent Mind is looking for two young volunteers (under 25) for its Heads UP project. The roles are based at Solent Mind’s offices in Southampton.

Data Analysis This is a great role for someone to use their skills in Microsoft Office and data capture documents to analyse data from the project’s workshops that are delivered to young people in the New Forest. It includes the opportunity to help design the pathway of data outcomes in the CRM system, which will help aid the project.

The volunteer will be able to confidently use Microsoft Office, take control of the analysis side of the project, use their own initiative and prioritise the workload. They also need to know how to input data in a productive and timely way. They will work alongside the Heads UP coordinator, helping her understand the data and how she can use it in her reports.

Volunteer Coordinator This position is for someone who would like to help the project grow and support the project’s volunteers, from the beginning of their role with the project, from paperwork, data base input, chasing documents and references to arranging support sessions. The volunteer would also help organise the volunteers in relation to the workshops the project delivers, from how many volunteers to times and areas.

You will work alongside the Heads UP coordinator to provide support to her in day to day administration tasks that involve volunteers. This would be your responsibility so you can make it your own.

The volunteer needs to be someone with a happy disposition, passionate about volunteering and able to communicate this to others. Someone who has a good telephone manner, is computer literate and an all-rounder in Microsoft office.

The time commitment required is one day per week (days can vary) but could be more.
