ith Valentine’s Day a feature of February, and thoughts of love in mind, have you ever thought about volunteering as a way of meeting that certain special person—or even a bunch of people who might bring new friends into your life? Volunteering is a great way of escaping the confines of your everyday life, broadening your horizons and meeting new people. Drivers Volunteer drivers are needed by groups all across the borough, either using their own cars to provide transport to those you cannot access public transport (mileage rate paid), or to train to drive a community mini bus. Full details of opportunities on request.

Waterway Recovery Group Volunteering with the Waterway Recovery Group (WRG) is a great way to gain new skills, add something interesting to your CV and most importantly have fun!! WRG provides weeklong residential volunteering holidays open to anyone aged 18+ regardless of background. The ‘Canal Camps’ aim to restore the derelict canals of England and Wales. They are dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive environment for volunteers to get involved with the practical restoration of Britain’s waterways.

WRG is run entirely by volunteers for volunteers and their people come from all age groups and from all over the UK and Europe. With support from dedicated volunteer leaders, each volunteer will be trained up in completing the work on site, ranging from bricklaying, heritage skills, landscaping and even archaeological excavations.

Whether demolishing old structures or constructing a lock, there is something for everyone to get involved with.

The cost of the week is £70 to volunteers and covers all of the volunteer’s food, accommodation and safety equipment, with the exception of steel toe capped boots.

Secretary Eastleigh Good Neighbours A secretary is needed for Eastleigh Good Neighbours, to take notes at each meeting (6 per year), and prepare the agenda for the following meeting. The secretary is also responsible for managing the group's correspondence. The EGN committee is a friendly and supportive group and full training for the role will be given. The majority of the role can be performed from home.

The secretary needs basic IT skills and the ability to summarise the decisions and action points from each meeting.

The meetings are held in central Eastleigh on a Thursday evening.

Eastleigh Museum Friday Afternoon A volunteer is needed on a Friday afternoon at Eastleigh Museum, 12.45-4pm. Under the supervision of One Community, museum volunteers provide a warm welcome to visitors, including occasional school visits, and information about exhibits. refreshments in the small cafe and selling items in the shop. The museum is a hub of community life, preserving Eastleigh's heritage and putting people in touch with local services, opportunities and events. The Museum is located on the High Street in Eastleigh town centre.

Barnardo’s Hampshire Healthy Families Volunteering Roles Barnardo’s has a number of Hampshire Healthy Families volunteering roles. If you are interested, staff will discuss the different activities available and look at what interests you most: Group support—The Healthy Families service is looking for enthusiastic and creative volunteers to support project staff and health visitors to deliver services and activities to children, parents and carers. You could:  Help run a Ready Steady Mums group (a buggy walking group)  Support Knowing Us groups (peer support group for mums who have experienced low mood or anxiety after the birth of their baby)  Promote the Five to Thrive approach to families.  Support the HENRY programme (Health Exercise and Nutrition for the Really Young)  Help run health roadshows and other relevant activities provided by Healthy Families that promote healthy outcomes for children across Hampshire.

Child Health Clinic volunteer—Clinic volunteers support health visitors and families during clinic sessions – for example, breastfeeding clinics, baby and child ‘weigh and play’ clinics, etc. You will be expected to:  Support the health visiting teams to create a welcoming, friendly and safe environment for families.  Set up and help run safe play activities.  Help to ensure Health and Safety requirements for the sessions are met;  Actively promote key health messages (resources & appropriate training given where required)  Previous experience of working within a healthcare profession or with children an

advantage.

Befriender Role—Community befriender volunteers support parents, carers and families in the community who may find it difficult to access health services, groups and activities in their local community. For example, you may meet someone outside a toddler group, clinic etc and go into the activity/group with them.

Barnardo’s is looking for the following in a volunteer:  Good listening skills with an empathetic approach  Willingness to take direction from project staff and health visitors  Ability to create a rapport with a range of people – to be open and encouraging  Interest in volunteering with children and adults  Patience and strong relationship-building skills  A non-judgmental and flexible approach As a Barnardo’s volunteer you will receive the following:  Full induction into your role and Barnardo’s in Hampshire and IOW  Full volunteer training, including Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, Professional boundaries, and information about your role  Regular supervision and support from the Volunteer Coordinator  Support from the Healthy Families team whilst you are volunteering Barnardo’s will reimburse reasonable expenses (travel costs, parking, etc) on a regular basis. A receipt will be necessary in order for you to claim.

Volunteers form a key part in this process by running community based panels around the county that are restorative and supportive of the individual’s needs.

Tasks and duties The volunteers will work as part of a panel, and will attend initial, review and final panel meetings throughout the order. The volunteers will discuss and agree interventions with the young person and professionals. The volunteers will participate in both pre and post panel discussions. Meetings take place all over Hampshire, in various locations including Libraries, Community Centres, Parish Centres. Their team areas are based in:  NE – Farnborough  NW – Basingstoke  SE – Fareham  SW – Eastleigh Training The training will consist of 6.5 days throughout the year  3 days—Restorative Justice Training  1.5 days—Panel Training  2 days—HCC Core Volunteer and Safeguarding Training All travel expenses and public transport costs will be reimbursed on submission of a HCC claim form with valid receipts. The role is subject to an informal interview and an enhanced DBS check.

Commitment HYOT asks for at least one year’s commitment.

There is no minimum requirement per week but the commitment needs to be regular.

IT Helpers Eastleigh Library Hampshire Youth Offending Panel The Hampshire Youth Offending service requires regular support to community panels. These panels are designed to support victims and young people in repairing the harm caused by offending behaviour and re-integrating them into the community; with a reduction in offending and reoffending being a priority.

Eastleigh Library is looking for volunteers who are able to teach individuals the basic skills on how to use a computer, such as e-mails, social networking, online security/passwords, browsing online and basic knowledge of the mouse and keyboard. The volunteer would need computer skills and the ability to communicate these. The time commitment is at least an hour a week.

Chair Designate Eastleigh Youth & Community Trust The Pavilion on the Park The Trust is seeking a voluntary non-executive Chair Designate of its 10-strong Board of Trustees. The hope is that the Chair designate can join the Trust's Board by early summer of 2018, becoming Chair at the Autumn AGM. Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust manages The Pavilion on the Park, an extensive community campus which includes two halls, four meeting rooms and a Community Cafe. The Pavilion is adjacent to Fleming Park on Kingfisher Road, Eastleigh, and hosts a large range of weekly and occasional community events for all ages.

With a part-time Executive Director and six members of staff plus a team of 50 volunteers - The Pavilion operates a range of inclusive activities. These include the Cycles 4all and Sensory 4all projects. Core users include the 4th Eastleigh Scout Group, The Nightingale Community Pre-School and HCC's Adult Services Community Link initiative. The Trust was awarded The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2016.

In the past four years the Trust has built an £80K external store, part-funded by Southampton Airport, as a base for the Pavilion's 22 especially designed cycles, has added two refurbished community rooms and in 2015 opened an impressive new £800K Annexe.

The Trust is an incorporated charity, and the Board is supported by key sub-committees of staff and volunteers for Finance & Resources, Governance & Risk, and Marketing & Communication.

A review of the Trust's 2016—2018 Business Plan is underway, using the data from its 2017 community and user groups' Impact Study.

The Board seeks a Chair who:  Can bring an experienced, dynamic and insightful approach to the strategic development of the charity going forward  Has previous leadership experience with a proven ability to inspire and engage with the Trust's staff, volunteers and customers  Is committed to the long term aims and objectives of the Trust and prepared to serve for a three year term  Is locally based or has local connection with the people and area in which the Trust operates  Ideally has previous non-executive experience in the not-forprofit sector, preferably as a charity trustee  Is prepared to go that extra mile to ensure the success of the Trust going forward To discuss this voluntary position, please contact Acting Chair Steve Everett, E mail steve.everett@vale-anderson.com
