Café Volunteers for Southampton Eye Hospital

Fledge – Mentors for Eastleigh’s Homeless Young People

The cafe at Southampton Eye Hospital is in urgent need of volunteers. The League of Friends at Southampton Eye Hospital staff the café from 8.30am until 3.30pm Monday to Friday and really need more people to cover those times. If you could spare three or four hours a week, the League would be delighted to hear from you.

One Community Archive Volunteer Volunteer help is needed to archive One Community’s reports and records. Records need to be sorted, scanned and filed systematically. This role would suit a methodical person with good IT skills. One Community is a charity supporting the Voluntary and Community Sector and providing a range of services. The role will be based in the charity’s offices in central Eastleigh.

Providing Support and Community for young People Eastleigh Borough’s homeless young people need mentors to help them transition into independence. Training, ongoing support and expenses will be provided.

Trustees for Fledge OPAL Home Visitor

Age Concern Hampshire’s OPAL scheme offers the opportunity for you to help isolated older people link to activities in your community. You will arrange and attend home visits and research help available to clients. You will provide information on appropriate organisations and may accompany clients to try a new activity. The role is very flexible and works on an as and when basis and will only take a few hours each month.

No specific qualifications are needed, but experience of dealing with older people is useful and volunteers must be over 18 years old. An enhanced DBS check and references will be taken up. Full training is given, but you will need to:  Relate well to older people  Have a non-judgmental attitude  Be able to communicate effectively  Have excellent listening skills Volunteering Matters Page 2

Fledge is looking for some like-minded, motivated and passionate people with fundraising and PR experience to join their Trustee board. This will involve using your experience in fundraising or PR to develop the charity and help it move forwards in its mission.

Fledge has a passionate but small Trustee board and is looking to expand it both in size and expertise. Ideally Trustees would be local to Eastleigh Borough for this role as they meet for meeting and working groups around once a month.

Fledge is growing and learning that they need to develop new projects, employ more staff and develop their existing project. This all requires PR support and funding. Fledge is looking to develop a PR and funding strategy and requires skilled individuals to help not only develop it but have an active role in implementing it.

Fledge is a new charity and therefore the trustees, and any new trustees, have a key role to play in the formation of this very exciting venture.

The time commitment can be either in or out of office hours. Fledge has evening trustee meetings around once a month. Trustees would be expected to complete any actions from these meetings before the next date.

Being a trustee with Fledge brings many benefits: learning together and moving forward as a new charity is a challenging and thrilling

experience. You will witness the positive impact of what you do on the wider outworking of Fledge and the young people the charity supports. The Fledge team is a very friendly bunch and welcomes all new faces with excitement.

Treasure Gymnastics Club Annual Competition Treasure Gymnastics Club is looking for volunteers to support their annual Club competition on 2 April at Toynbee School, Bodycoats Road, Chandlers Ford. The volunteering roles available, which do not require gymnastics qualifications, are for event marshals, raffle ticket sellers and stall holders.

EBS – IT Wizard and Trustees Needed EBS, the bereavement service for Eastleigh and Southampton, is looking for a volunteer to give its website a new look and/or take over the running of it. EBS is a registered charity providing bereavement counselling and more general counselling, covering work related issues, changing job, bullying, living problems, sexuality, loss and moving house to name a few. An improved website would be a great contribution to the continuing success of the organisation.

EBS – Trustee

Eastleigh Gurkha Nepalese Association (EGNA) is looking for someone to take minutes at their quarterly meetings. All meetings are conducted in English and are usually on Saturdays. The role would involve preparing a draft agenda, taking and typing up minutes and producing fliers etc for events. EGNA would want you to attend EGNA events such as the Eastleigh Mela, BBQs and a commemoration ceremony at Hillier gardens.

The role would suit someone with strong organisational and minute taking skills who would enjoy attending meetings and events. EGNA’s meetings always include wonderful Nepalese food!

You will need your own computer to produce minutes on.

Friends of the Hexagon Friends of the Hexagon are looking for up to three new committee members to help organise fundraising events through the year – coffee mornings, charity walks etc. The group needs members for five committee meetings a year, plus

Trustees are also needed by EBS to help administer the charity. This is not an arduous or complex task and can be very satisfying and interesting. As a Trustee the volunteer would be required to attend monthly meetings held on the 3rd Monday of the month. Trustee meetings last approximately two hours. The Trustees are responsible for the policies and decision making of the organisation. EBS is a charitable organisation that receives no regular funding. Trustees seek to secure the future of the organisation by applying for funding and seeking to promote the good name and reputation of the EBS. The Trustees are a small, dedicated group of individuals who work well as a team and are looking for people to come along and help them with their goal of providing a confidential counselling and support service to all those suffering a bereavement.

Event Volunteer for One Community One Community is looking for event volunteers to put up and take down their events gazebo five or six times a year, usually at the weekend. The role involves picking the gazebo and display boards and other event equipment (tables/chairs) up from the office, taking them to the event and setting up, then taking down at the end. Lifting involved, so volunteers need to be fit. Driver required (vehicle available), travel expenses paid.
