One Community Event Set-Up Volunteers The One Community gazebo goes to a number of weekend community events during the year and help is needed to set up the stand in the morning – put up the gazebo and set out chairs, tables, display equipment, books for sale, tombola items etc – and take them down again in the a!ernoon.

The volunteers would need to be reasonably physically fit as the items are quite bulky and heavy. The •me commitment would be 3 - 4 •mes a year on a weekend. It takes about an hour to set up and less to take down.

Admin Support for Eastleigh Friends of People with a Learning Disability A local charity organising social events for people with a learning disability, Eastleigh Friends, are looking for more volunteers and especially someone to take notes and create minutes of their bi-monthly mee•ngs. The mee•ngs take place on either a

Wednesday or Thursday morning ing every other month. They are a friendly group of Trustees and nd volunteers and would warmly mly welcome someone interested ed in joining them. More informa•on available on request.

Treasurer and Board Member for Velmore Community Associa!on Velmore Community Associa•on is looking for a treasurer. The treasurer’s role will be to maintain an overview of the organisa•on’s financial affairs, ensuring its viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained, and to oversee financial procedures, end of year accounts and management accounts. The treasurer will also be an ac•ve member of the Board of Trustees and contribute to the smooth running of the Community Associa•on. The volunteer will need to have: • Experience of financial control and budge•ng.

• Experience of fundraising.

• Good communica•on and interpersonal skill • Willingness to be contacted on an ad hoc basis.

• Ability to ensure decisions are taken and followed-up.

• Good •me-keeping.

Conserva!on Volunteering in Fair Oak The Conserva•on Volunteers need your help to help manage woodlands and create a new ne sec•on of footpath. Thursday 4th February in Fair Oak, 10am3pm. No experience needed, tools, gloves and hot drinks provided. Please book your place in advance.

Mid Hants Railway Watercress Line – Canadian Pacific Project The Mid Hants is a heritage railway lway opera•ng a fleet of steam locomotives, most of them larger classes, as they are required to work hard and haul trains up and over the steeply graded line. Today the railway runs the full 10 miles between the market towns of Alresford and Alton, preserving an important piece of our 1940’s-1970’s railway heritage for this genera•on and many more to come.

The Canadian Pacific Project centres around the restora•on of the Merchant Navy class locomo•ve, Canadian Pacific. It was built in 1941 at Eastleigh Works, largely by a female workforce.

In 2015 the railway received £895,000 from the Heritage Lo#ery Fund to restore the locomo•ve, two wooden framed carriages and undertake a large outreach programme.

The restora•on of Canadian Pacific is taking place at Eastleigh Works by a team of dedicated volunteers and work experience people from the Job Centre, all dedicated to ge%ng her up and running and back on the Watercress Line in 2018.

Mid Hants Railway is a not-for-profit organisa•on, and relies on volunteers for many roles. They are currently seeking: Restora!on team member: To become a member of the restora•on team at Eastleigh Works restoring the Mid Hants Railway’s flagship steam locomo•ve no 35005 Canadian Pacific. There is addi•onally poten•al for working in Ropley. The tasks involved will depend on the volunteer’s level of experience, but can include cu%ng, pain•ng, drilling, cleaning parts, moving items and fi%ng.

The •me commitment is flexible, depending on what •me the volunteer is able to commit, with volunteer days typically running from Monday to Wednesday from 8am to 3.45pm, although other dates may be possible with prior arrangement.

Costumed interpreters: To assist Mid Hants Railway and the Canadian Pacific Project in providing new interac•ve interpreta•on at the sta•ons along the line. You will choose a character that would have been found at the railway between 1940 and the 1960s (a list of characters can be provided).

The role involves mee•ng and gree•ng visitors in a polite and enthusias•c way, engaging with the public, interpre•ng the site, displays etc, and giving direc•ons and informa•on about the site. It is also to interact with visitors, telling them your character’s stories of the railway and rail travel. Volunteers will only be required when an event is on at the railway, with a minimum commitment of one day per event.

It may be possible to extend this role beyond events in the future.

Oral History Collectors: To assist the Canadian Pacific Project in the collec•on and possible transcrip•on of memories collected as part of the Oral History Project. This will involve collec•ng memories from par•cipants, audio or video recording, making sure that the par•cipant signs the relevant forms and transcribing the collected oral histories. The •me commitment would be a minimum of half a day to one day per week, dependent on the oral history collec•on schedule.

You may be asked if no recordings are booked to transcribe previous recordings. The role may include travel to par•cipants.

Women’s Work Researcher: To assist the Outreach and Interpreta•on Officer (Canadian Pacific Project) in researching the roles of women on the railway between 1940 and the 1960s. This will involve researching the role of women on the railway, conduc•ng research at various record offices and museums, aiding in the produc•on of displays, aiding in the produc•on of school informa•on packs. This role will take place at Ropley sta•on and some travel to other sites may be required. It may be possible for some tasks to be undertaken from home. The •me commitment would be a minimum of half a day a week (if possible).

Secretary Needed for QE2 Ac!vity Centre QE2 Ac•vi•es Centre Commi#ee needs someone to takee minutes at 8 to 10 mee•ngs per year (Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings), and to liaise with the commi#ee and arrange the mee•ngs.

The QE2 Ac•vity Centree provides Day Services, holidays and ac•vity sessions for people of all ages with addi•onal needs, including learning disabili•es, au•sm, physical disabili•es and sensory impairment.

Recep•onist for Eastleigh Charity

Community Café, Netley

A charity situated in central Eastleigh is looking for volunteers to welcome visitors and answer the telephone in the a•ernoons, Monday to Friday.

Volunteers go on a rota to do one a•ernoon a week – or more if you would like to. Other office tasks would include photocopying and franking le•ers – full training and support provided.

Volunteers would be made very welcome by the charity’s staff and volunteers and would be making a major contribu•on to the work of the organisa•on. The role may suit someone looking to gain experience in office work, or a re•red person with office experience.

Volunteers need to be calm, friendly and reliable, with a confident telephone manner. Further details on request.

The View Community Café has recently opened in Netley, serving ng drinks, light lunches and baked d goods. Students (aged 16+) from rom a local school for young peoplee with complex learning and d physical disibili•es are working at the café to earn valuable employment skills, and the young people are fully supervised by school staff, however more volunteers are needed to extend the café opening hours. The café is part of a non-profit organisa•on, but they do need to cover their costs.

All profits made are invested back into the local community. The café is part of a community hub which will be running community groups such as arts and cra•s, book clubs, steps to employment and adult learning courses.

Volunteers with good communica•on skills and a posi•ve a!tude are needed, and anyone with extra interests or hobbies is more than welcome to help develop the programme of ac•vi•es.

You don’t need to have any catering experience, as food hygiene training will be provided. Applicants must be aged 18 or over. Training will be provided to all volunteers. Expenses such as mileage during work hours, and purchase of project materials can be claimed back in expenses.

Co-ordinator Needed for Eastleigh Good Neighbours The co-ordinator is the first point of contact between the client and the volunteer at Eastleigh Good Neighbours. The he client will ring the answerphone ne service and leave a message reques•ng a service from EGN. This could be for a medical appointment, gardening or DIY. The client will leave the date and •me of the service required, together with a contact number. Each day the co-ordinator will take the messages from the answerphone. Once the messages have been recorded by the co-ordinator they will match the job to a volunteer using an excel spreadsheet. This involves phoning the volunteer to confirm their availability for the task and, if they agree, recording this on the spreadsheet. The coordinator will then phone the client back to confirm the details together with the name of the volunteer.

The co-ordinator’s role is undertaken at home and should take approximately 10 hours per week and will be worked on a rota basis, shared with the other co-ordinators, so you would do one week on, two off. All expenses are paid and the service only runs Monday to Friday.

Skydive for KIDS Imagine standing at the edge of an open doorway in an aircra• flying at 10,000 feet – the noise of the engines and the wind ringing in your ears with only the outline of distant fields below. Now imagine leaning forward out of that doorway and le!ng go – falling forward into the clouds, diving down through the air as you start freefalling at over 120mph!

Then imagine the peace and quiet as the canopy opens, the steering toggles come down either side of you and you begin a tranquil parachute descent from a mile up in the air, steering yourself back down to the centre of the drop zone below.

KIDS, the charity that works with disabled childr children, young people and th their families, is asking volunteers to raise £395 for them, and in return you can jump for free.

Brendoncare Care Home and Club Volunteers Brendoncare, the he charity that provides des care homes and social and friendship clubs for older people, is looking to recruit more volunteers.

Club volunteers help to see that everyone has an enjoyable !me at their mee!ngs. They are the people who welcome the members, help them in, make sure they are comfortable, have a cup of tea and generally keep things moving along. They are the lifeblood of the club. If you enjoy the company of others, have a sense of humour and want to play a part in the social life of older people then we would love to hear from you.

In the care homes (at Chandlers Ford, o"erbourne and Winchester), Brendoncare is keen to hear from people who might be interested in leading or suppor!ng ac!vity sessions – perhaps you have a skill or a hobby you could share with residents?

Perhaps you enjoy arts and cra#s, cards or games and could assist residents to par!cipate in these fun ac!vi!es?

Other volunteering roles include helping to maintain gardens, providing administra!ve support or simply spending !me cha$ng with residents.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Rehabilita•on Company – Veterans’ Peer Mentoring (VPM) Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Rehabilita!on Company, based with the Proba!on Service, is looking for people who have served in the forces to be trained as Peer Mentors to work with forces and ex forces personnel who are on Proba!on

Orders or being released from prison.

The VPM Scheme consists of a cohort of veteran mentors recruited from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The mentors are all volunteers and are drawn from a diverse range of military backgrounds and ranks. They work, one to one, with current veteran offenders (clients) who are on community orders or with those released from prison. The mentors’ work includes giving clients empathe!c support to help them to resolve any problems they might have and enable them to successfully take control of their lives. In the course of their work the mentors have access to a range of statutory organisa!ons and chari!es, which can include the RFEA, SSAFA, Royal Bri!sh Legion, Combat Stress, Veterans Outreach Support, Warrior Programme and many more.
