One Community Services An Independent Charity One Community is an independent charity, established in 1978, to support the voluntary and community sector. We provide a range of care, transport and information services aimed at improving the quality of life for those we serve and helping our communities to flourish. We are not “the council”, though we do receive funding for some of our services through contracts and service level agreements with local authorities. Fundraising is vital to the continuation of our services, so donations and legacies are warmly welcomed to help us to meet the needs of local people.

One Community Information, Support and Care Services Care Navigators A team of six Care Navigators works across the Eastleigh Southern Parishes, which has five GP practices. They work with the practices to ensure that patients receive personalised and coordinated care, linking them to services within the voluntary and community sector. This is a non-clinical service and is a supportive role to the health and social care professionals.

Care & Respite Service The Care & Respite Service, registered with the Care Quality Commission, offers carers a few hours respite from their caring responsibilities each week. Trained staff provide stimulating and therapeutic activities for the cared for person, or a trip out in the car, perhaps for coffee and cake, depending on their capabilities and interests.

Personal care can be provided if needed.

Carers Centre One Community’s Carers Centre offers support to people over the age of 18 in the Borough of Eastleigh who care for someone with an illness, disability, mental health condition or addiction. It also undertakes research into the needs of carers and the impact that their caring role has on their lives.  Telephone signposting service, helping carers navigate to the right source of

Young Carers Young Carers offers support to young carers aged 8 to 18 years who live in the Borough of Eastleigh. The activities organised give young carers time off from caring and the opportunity to make friends with other young people in the same situation. We aim to empower young people and provide them with positive experiences in a safe and fun environment where they are free to be themselves.

Day Centre Service One Community has six day centres, which offer a wide range of activities for older people to help them to live independently, meet others and socialise, while providing respite to carers. The day centres cater for people who have dementia or physical disability. Refreshments and lunch are provided and transport can be arranged.

Referrals can come through Adult Services or can be booked directly through the day centre.

An initial assessment will be made at home to ensure that the day centre can meet the individual’s needs and aspirations.

Eastleigh Museum

One Community Information & Support

One Community is responsible for the day-to-day running of Eastleigh Museum, in an innovative partnership with Hampshire Cultural Trust and Eastleigh Borough Council.

Our aim is to preserve the museum and its record of Eastleigh’s heritage while providing a community hub with outreach for One Community’s services.

The museum, staffed by One Community volunteers, offers a shop selling local produce, locally themed goods and locally produced crafts, and a welcoming café serving hot and cold drinks, cakes and snacks.

To the rear of the museum is One Community’s Information Centre (see below) and a temporary exhibition centre with a varied programme of exhibitions from Hampshire Cultural Trust, including many with a local flavour.

The museum is open Monday-Friday 10am4pm, Saturday 10am-2pm.

OCIS, registered with the DWP as an alternative office, provides information on benefits, services, support and activities for people who find it difficult to access these for themselves. The service includes home visits, advocacy, help with forms and referral to other agencies as required.

Lifeline Lifeline is a telephone linked support service designed to maintain a safer lifestyle and the independence of clients while bringing peace of mind to relatives and carers. In an emergency, the client presses a panic button, on a pendant or wristband, alerting by telephone a 24-hour control centre where assistance can be summoned immediately. Key safes are also provided and fitted.

Mops & Shops Mops & Shops is for anyone over the age of 60, or who has a disability, who is unable to do their own basic housework, and needs to find a reliable home help at reasonable cost, on a short or long term basis. Our Home Support Workers can do general housework: vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms/toilets/floors/windows, changing beds, washing, ironing and shopping.

One Community Information Centre The Information Centre at Eastleigh Museum offers information about services, volunteering, events, activities, training ... anything that might be of interest or benefit to local people. A computer is available for public use, particularly to access information and apply for benefits online, with staff assistance.

One Community Research One Community undertakes commissioned research projects for external agencies.

Examples include research for the Police and Crime Commissioner and Hampshire Police, on children who have experienced domestic abuse, and on Neighbourhood Watch groups.

We also undertake research on behalf of voluntary and community groups to evidence the effectiveness of their work with client groups, or to assist in consultation with service users, to help groups best meet their clients’ needs.

Hate Crime Reporting Centre Also based at Eastleigh Museum is our Hate Crime Reporting Centre. If you have been targeted because of your disability, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, age, sexual orientation, transgender identity or sub culture, you can talk through an incident over the phone or in person with a member of staff.

The service is available Monday-Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday 10am-2pm.

Visiting Scheme

One Community

Volunteers visit clients in their own homes, for an hour or two to offer a bit of company. Clients are those who are unable to get out easily, due to age, infirmity or physical disability. Referrals come to the scheme via professional agencies, eg GP, social worker, tenancy support officer, and eight visits are offered initially. The scheme operates across the boroughs of Eastleigh and Fareham.

Transport Services One Community Transport

Hedge End Park Minibus Service

The Community Transport scheme provides group transport for community and charitable organisations who are registered members of One Community. They might be youth groups, sports clubs or older people’s lunch clubs. Our volunteer drivers regularly transport passengers to a variety of destinations using our fleet of accessible minibuses. The vehicles are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Hedge End Park Minibus Service provides door-to -door transport for people with disabilities living in the Borough of Eastleigh and the eastern side of Southampton. It takes them from home to the superstores at Hedge End, Monday to Friday.

Parish Link Minibus Service The Parish Link Minibus Service provides shopping opportunities to Eastleigh town centre on a Thursday, while linking neighbouring villages in the parishes.

Dial-A-Ride Eastleigh Dial-A-Ride is a door-to-door transport service for people living in the Borough of Eastleigh who find it difficult or impossible to use ordinary bus services. Registered users can travel anywhere in the Borough of Eastleigh and on three days a week to West Quay Shopping Centre in Southampton. The service operates six days a week.

Shopmobility Eastleigh Shopmobility, located at the Swan Centre, Wells Place, Eastleigh, loans out powered or manual wheelchairs and scooters to enable people to do their shopping independently or to use other facilities in the town centre. Vehicles are loaned out by the day, but loans for manual wheelchairs over a longer period are available.

Community Development DBS Services

Community Development Team

One Community is registered as an ‘Umbrella Body’ with the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) and can therefore offer services to countersign DBS applications. This service is mainly to support the voluntary sector, though we may be able to help local businesses too. Contact us to register or to receive further information.

Our Community Development Team offers a service to all local voluntary and community groups in the boroughs of Eastleigh and Fareham, to provide information, advice and guidance around the complexities of running a local group or charity.

Membership of One Community Membership of One Community is open to voluntary and community groups operating in the Borough of Eastleigh (cost £15 per annum).

Membership entitles organisations to minibus hire, room hire, administration support and equipment hire. Members also receive our monthly e-newsletter and information about funding and training opportunities.

We also welcome statutory agencies (eg Parish Councils, GP surgeries), and volunteering and community groups in the Borough of Fareham to join as associate members at £20 per annum, entitling you to all the benefits above except voting rights at our AGM. Please contact us for a membership application form.

Post Box Service—£20 per annum to members to use the One Community address and be notified of mail to be collected.

Volunteer Centre One Community advertises volunteering opportunities, recruits volunteers and promotes voluntary activity.

We provide information and support to volunteers, and match volunteers with volunteer -involving organisations from the voluntary, community and statutory sector.

We work with volunteer-involving organisations in the boroughs of Eastleigh and Fareham to advise on good practice in recruiting and supporting volunteers.

We work with the private sector to facilitate corporate or employee volunteering.
