Various initiatives have resulted in us raising just over £4,500 from donations and contributions, and we hope to hear about the Sainsbury’s Charity of the Year vote soon. We also have several bids into grant-making trusts currently under consideration. We have reluctantly had to take the decision to reduce the Carers Centre service as from 1 August, which means that three members of the team will be leaving our employment on 31 July: Chris Dear, Janette Lowe and Paula Chuter -Baker. We are, however, pleased to announce that Paula wishes to continue her counselling service to clients as an independent counsellor basing herself in our premises. Details of the new arrangements are given in this newsletter. We wish her well in this new service, where carers will be given a priority in bookings. Julie Bythell will be staying with One Community as Carer Support Officer, but reducing her hours to 25 per week. She will be joined by Kylie Barton for five hours a week who will be undertaking research into the needs of carers and looking at good practice and funding streams in other areas. Kylie will be delighted to have your input into her research and can be contacted on kbarton@1community.org.uk. We also hope that all our volunteers will also be able to stay with us to help us through this challenging time. The Trustees and staff at One Community would like to thank Chris and Janette for all their hard work on carers’ behalf over the years and we wish them well for their future.
