COMPONENT 1 – PART 2
Beginning my project, I set out to create a building surrounding the idea of an airplane museum, as my site was located opposite the London City Airport, this allowed me to delve deeper into airplane museums, to which I went and conducted research in the London Science Museum as the way airplanes were displayed showed me ways I could design the interior of my museum
Final Model
When designing my final model, I took into consideration the loud noise pollution from the A1020, so with that I introduced the idea of trees lining the area to reduce the amount of noise pollution.
Final Model
The site features a car park, multiple seating areas laid out across the site to allow users to experience London City Airports daily flights, the green patches signified areas of greenery/grass, allowing users who are young ie. Families with children etc. To play and have fun while being able to also experience new things, and attractions that the museum has to offer
Final Model
The white building would have contained a café where users could go to relax after experiencing the attractions the museum had to offer. In between the two buildings would have been the connecting pavilion that allowed the two building to be connected.
The main building being the black building, the museum, would consist of the whole purpose of my project, that being airplanes.
The main inspiration behind the buildings shape was the curves of seashells, but specifically seashells that are used to home hermit crabs.
Final Model
The curve of the seashell would offer a unique and organic shape to the design of the building standing it out from the basic urban architecture surrounding it.
With the site being so large it offers my buildings enough space to not look too large in comparison to the surrounding architecture.
When designing the final model I initially set out to use multiple materials but it felt like I wouldn’t be sticking to the organic feel and flow of the design of my building so I ended up sticking to the same material for the main buildings and pushing away from the materials on the different features of the site.
Final Model
All in all I believe my model depicts what my design idea was set out to be, but it could use with some more details as some features aren't shown.
Evaluation:
Overall, the final model I've created of my site over the period of the project depicts my design idea and what I set out for it to look like. I unfortunately was unable to complete my sketch up model as my work was deleted.
The site features a main building, being the larger black building which is the airplane museum, the smaller white building is the café and connecting the two buildings together is a small unique pavilion where one side of the components does not touch the floor, this gives the pavilion a unique aspect and look to it. The site also features some seating areas, good for those users coming with their families or small children or just users in general wanting to watch the planes fly into London City Airport, greenery/grass allowing those who come with either young children to enrich themselves or those who come with animals to also enrich themselves. The site holds a carpark but also contains a pathway leading the main walkway of Royal Albert Dock where they can follow that pathway and it would lead to Cyprus DLR Station and Beckton Park DLR Station, this allows users to choose their modes of transport to the Museum.
The whole Idea of the site was to create an inclusive area of both the community and those coming to visit the museum, the site would offer locals an area to hang out in and visit, containing a café as the variety of areas to eat in the area are little to none.
Overall, I believe the design idea I created depicts my idea and what I aimed for the site to look like; the model of the site turned out nice, but I would introduce more elements if I had more time. As an extension I would develop a sketch up model to help show my chosen idea in more depth and what interior features it would have had, this would have allowed my model to look sleeker and more put together.
