I used the traditional materials of the Chinese countryside, fabric/bamboo fence and old wood to emphasize the feeling of nature. Through the combination of different oriental materials, I described an atmosphere that is not common to seen in city.

Wheat field playing

Outside the dining area of Daohua Restaurant, I built a performance space for wheat field barbecue and wheat field symphony. In the evening sunset of the Granary Hotel, the dining crowd was accompanied by the melodious symphony in the wheat field, and the emotions were slowly brought into the potential field of the granary with the notes.

With the arc of Xiangcheng traffic bridge as the carrier, the element runs through the interior design, symbolizing that the boundary between reality and non-reality is broken in the limited space. Through the integration, deducing and deformation of the ring, the abstract form of time is reconstructed to create an infinitely extended multidimensional scene.

Alzheimer's Housing Design

Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative disease of the nervous system with an insidious onset. When the condition worsens, the patient is often disconnected from the family or society, and suffer with their last days of lives. With the increasing aging, there are currently at least 50 million AD patients in the world. This residential project aims to design corresponding spatial functions at different stages of the disease. My observzasion shows that the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease are divided into three main stages, hence the space is constructed by the basic neurons and three layers of protection. As the disease develops, the patient’s need for external help increases. The form and function are also becoming more complicated to resist memory loss and help patients delay neurodegeneration.

Alzheimer's disease

A neurodegenerative disease common in the elderly

Pathological changes: Cerebral cortex atrophy/Neurofibrillary tangles/Nerve cell senile plaque formation

Progressive cognitive impairment and memory loss are the main symptoms

Pathogenesis: It is not clear yet, it is usually considered to be the common result of aging/ genetic/and environmental factors

Global distribution of dementia mortality rates in 2021:

The "World Report on Alzheimer's Disease 2018" currently has at least 50 million dementia patients.

It is estimated that this number will reach 150 million in 2050, and 60%-70% are AD patients.

The number of AD patients in China exceeds 10 million, which is the country with the largest number of AD patients in the world. It is estimated that the number of patients will exceed 30 million by 2050

Death rate>26%

Pathogenic factors:

1. Family history (generic reasons)

2. Physical diseases (such as thyroid disease, immune system disease, epilepsy, etc.).

3. Head trauma (severe brain trauma may be one of the causes of certain diseases.)

4. Lifestyle (social and psychological factors such as widowhood, living alone, financial difficulties, and ups and downs in life can be the triggers for the disease.)

5. Inflammation (progressive failure of the immune system, weakening of the body's detoxification function, and lentiviral infection, etc.)

Regional distribution of Alzheimer's disease in

Macau's Huadi Ma Tang District, 11.1% of the elderly population aged 65 and above, and the ageing index

by 1.1 percentage points yearon-year to 84.1%, the 22nd consecutive year of increase. The dependency ratio of the elderly population in Macao is 19.2%, that is, about 5 adults support 1 elderly population, and the aging trend of the population is obvious.

Research analysis

I tried to present the loss and twist of memory through spatial elements.

Each red square is a memory unit. The white volume is the resistance to memory loss. As the disease worsens, the control method through self and external treatment gradually increases, and the memory is also distorted and lost as the stage goes on.

After I made the concept model, applied the spatial concept into the final design, incorporated with all the functions required in a Alzheimer's house.
