Welcome to our 2021 edition of our online production sale. This year we have decided to only offer heifer calves in our sale. We have selected 18 heifers that bring their own unique pedigrees to the table and will be an asset to add to any cow herd. We are always working and striving towards strong cow families in our herd.

This year’s group of heifers are sired by 7 new sires that we are excited about. On the Simmental side you will see calves off MRL Player Maker 36G, MRL Outlast 41G, MRL Justified 92G, Come As U R Mayhem 1G, KKBS Red Brisk 43G, Come As U R Red Rocket 29A and Equity. In the angus division you will see calves off SAV Rainfall, Hamco Raptor 3F, and Youngdale Fall Out 19F. We want to take this opportunity to thank all our past buyers and bidders, it is for you folks we strive to produce these females.

Last year we teamed up with our friends at Come As U R to start this annual online production sale. We were looking for an avenue where we could market a larger and more diverse offering of our genetics in the fall sale run than we had been offering previously at consignment sales, with the added simplicity and benefits of selling the cattle off-farm/ online. We like that we can put less feed into the sale cattle to prep them for sale day as they don’t need to carry the same condition as they would at a consignment sale. That is an obvious advantage to young growing heifers and breds that still need to lay down and have their first baby in a few months time.

Earlier this year we had planned to offer up some bred cows, pregnant recips, and more bred heifers along with some heifer calves and frozen genetics. Unfortunately, Mother Nature threw a massive curveball at us this summer when she placed us at the epicentre of the worst drought our area has ever seen. By the end of July, we were desperate to make a move to try and save as much of our breeding program as possible, so in the first week of August we weaned, shipped the steer and cull heifer calves to market, and sold off a quarter of our cowherd. Due to the worsening pasture conditions and impending feed shortage we were up against, the bred cows that I had intended to save for this sale also had to go, along with a small group of open heifers.

Fortunately though, that group of good breeding females found a home in Ontario with the good folks at Crooked Creek Farms (thanks again guys!).

Needless to say, those decisions we had to act upon in August have resulted in our offering in this year’s production sale being much smaller than we had anticipated.

Due to our limited feed inventory and the fact that grain rations are currently priced at the $450+ per tonne mark, the females on offer are fairly fresh in their condition.

The bred heifers were pictured straight off of their summer pasture, after a severe drought, with no supplemental feed put into them. What you see is what you get - easy doing, hardy females that can withstand the toughest conditions.

We are proud of the cattle and genetics we have on offer and we think there is a little something to suit everyone’s taste. We realize that not everyone will be able to travel to Fisher Branch to view our offering, so we try to do a very good job of picturing and videoing the sale cattle to present them true to type. TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash, cheque or e-transfer payable at par with settlement to be made im-

mediately after the completion of the sale. Settlement is to be received by the seller within 30 days after the sale date unless other arrangements have been mutually agreed upon between the buyer and seller prior to sale day. Interest will be charged to all balances left unpaid after 30 days. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made to the sellers before any cattle will be released.

All monies are in Canadian funds.

BIDS: Every lot in the sale will be sold, by racehorse style auction, to the highest bidder. No by-bidding will be permitted. If you are deemed the highest bidder on any lot at the conclusion of the sale, you will be responsible for paying full purchase price to the seller, no exceptions.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the buyer as soon as sold.

U.S. BUYERS: Our sale is conducted in Canadian funds. Exchange rate used will be that which is in effect at the onset of the sale. The sellers will assist with the necessary health testing, vet exams and paperwork required to export your animal, but all export fees are the responsibility of the buyer. In order to cover the cost of veterinarian, U.S. Customs and brokerage charges required to export your animal, a fee of $300 USD per animal purchased will be charged for this service and is due at the time of settlement. Trucking to the seller’s nearest U.S.- Canada border crossing is free of charge, assuming that all U.S. bound animals will be transported to the border in one shipment. Trucking from the U.S. port of entry to the buyer’s final destination will be the responsibility and the expense of the buyer, unless prior arrangements have been made.

INSURANCE: We insist that all animals remaining at Rainbow River Simmentals or at Come As U R after the sale MUST be insured.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: All announcements and updates made at the commencement of online bidding

will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to any such announcements and updates.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry registration papers issued by the Canadian Simmental Association or the Canadian Angus Association. A certificate of registration will be transferred to the buyer for each animal purchased after settlement has been made in full.

SHIPPING: For live animal and frozen genetic lots, assistance will be given in arranging shipping after the sale, but no risk is assumed by the seller or any sales staff.

Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the buyer. Buyers are requested to furnish shipping instructions after the conclusion of the sale. If you need assistance, please contact the seller.

EMBRYO GUARANTEE: 1 - 90 day pregnancy per pack of 3 embryos, or 2 - 90 day pregnancies per pack of 5 embryos, if implanted by an accredited veterinarian. Re-

placement embryos will either be the same embryos as purchased or those of equal value. If no replacement embryos are available, then a credit will be issued. A maximum of two replacement embryos will be issued for each pack of 3. For each pack of 5, two replacement embryos will be issued if the original embryos resulted in 1 - 90 day pregnancy; or four replacement embryos will be issued if the original embryos resulted in 0 - 90 day pregnancies. In the event that your conception rates of the purchased embryos do not meet the minimum guaranteed, notification of inadequate conception must be made to the seller within 120 days of implanting. This embryo guarantee expires after 120 days post-implanting.

BREEDER GUARANTEE: All animals are sold under the standard terms and guarantees as set forth by the Canadian Simmental Association (CSA) and Canadian Angus Association (CAA). The CSA Breeder Guarantee Guidelines can be found on the reverse side of any registration paper belonging to a bull or female registered with the CSA, or on the CSA website at www.simmental.com. At no time will the seller’s liability exceed the purchase price of the animal.

EXCEPTION TO BREEDER GUARANTEE: This guarantee does not cover death, injury, sickness or mismanagement. No guarantee is given that a bull’s semen will freeze. In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques (i.e. embryo transfer) after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

Animals cannot be returned to Rainbow River Simmentals or Come As U R if not in a sound, healthy condition.

HEALTH: It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into their province or state.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither Rainbow River Simmentals, Come As U R, or any sales staff or Association assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

LIABILITIES: All persons attending the sale, or viewing cattle on-farm prior to the sale, do so at their own risk and the seller assumes no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents occurring in or about the premises.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller, and be equally binding to both.

Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction, and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

When we were picking our sale heifers, I was a little on the fence about offering this female for sale as I had to part with her dam this summer. I like to say if it doesn’t hurt a bit when your selling females you aren’t digging deep enough into your replacement pen. So here she is KKBS Gold 125J has been my favourite since the day she was born and the one I felt that deserved to be lot 1. I purchased Springcreek B Gold 96Z in the fall of 2018 she quickly became my top female in my herd. 125J is the kind of female I strive to raise, she is very powerful as you stand behind her and appreciate her width of base, her angularity and overall dimension. Whether you want a show heifer or one to go out and raise some big time calves, I don’t think she’ll let ya down. When you make a living selling herd bulls, females like this are very hard to part with. Certainly one of the highest performing females in the whole offering, dark cherry red with an abundance of softness, and shear broodiness. Her dam is a beautiful bootlegger daughter going back to one of my all-time favourite cows at McMillen’s, MRL 477U. I flushed her to KKBS Red Brisk 43G that I sold to Mar Mac Farms in 2020. He was the first son I raised out of Springcreek 96Z. This one will be a definite cornerstone female that will raise some herd bulls.

This heifer reminds me so much of her dam. She is in size, big bellied, easy doing and as sound as they come. The Lou cow family is one of my top cow families in my herd. I can always count on them to raise some of my top calves year after year. Her dam 823F is owned by Calvin Fornwald and is one of the best females I have ever parted with. Money maker here folks.

The dam of this dark red heifer is a real producer. I have two beautiful daughters retained inherd, which allows me to part with this one. The milking ability, foot quality and production from this cow family is second to none, and the dark red colour is stacked deep. Her granddam is one of my favourite cows, raising several feature progeny over the years plus maintaining her beautiful udder and youthfulness as she ages. 9X is still in production too, raising twins this past year and never skipping a beat in raising a good one. There haven’t been many opportunities to snag a direct daughter of Crimson Tide due to his semen being held highly exclusive. His dam is one of the most beautiful donors in the breed and I think these Tide daughters will strut their stuff once in production. He really stamps his progeny consistently and we’ve found their dispositions to be very good too. 36J is moderate in size, has a very attractive look with big spring of rib, a good foot and an easy going personality. Her dam is a bigger framed Captain Scream two year old who was the pick of our bred heifers by everyone who toured here last summer.

This feature heifer is an ET daughter from our Reeba donor and the $110,000 Wheatland Red Express. Red Express is backed by a long line of beautiful, big bodied, strong uddered cows and his dam is one of Wheatland’s most productive females as she is also the dam of the $85,000 Wheatland Final Affair. Reeba herself has been a strong producer for us, putting several good bulls through our bull sale, including a $16,250 son that is working for Pheasantdale Cattle Co. She has matured into a powerful cow, with the deepest rib you could possibly have in a female, enormous width and spring of rib, and excellent udder. 43H is moderate in frame, resembles her dam closely and has also inherited the ideal udder structure and big, square foot that Reeba has. I expect 43H to drop a lovely udder that will milk well.

Her early mating to the new calving ease sire, KWA Can Am, should result in a highly marketable calf. Stacking his legendary donor dam, KWA Ms Rock 14X, on Reeba and Wheatland Lady 212Z could only result in a good outcome!

I have been impressed with this heifer’s ability to maintain body condition through a tough drought year. She is pictured here straight off of her summer pasture, with no supplemental feed.

I think it speaks volumes about her easy doing ability, which she comes by honestly as both her dam and granddam have also been soft made, easy doing cows throughout their productive lifetime. 5H has ideal frame size and depth of body, but I think her width, natural dimension, generous spring of rib and sturdy foot are probably her most impressive attributes.
