Working across the mediums of photography and sculpture, London-based artist Alix Marie is renowned for her candid images of the body’s surface. From a tearing eye to bruised, goose-pimpled skin, her hyper-real photographs capture an array of textures and strange details, simultaneously inciting desire and disgust. Using innovative methods of exhibition, Marie encourages the viewer to question their relationship to the body and the ways in which they are represented. The human body is a canvas of contradiction, both beautiful and grotesque, and Marie’s work brings this duality to the fore , encouraging us to consider our skin and flesh in a new light. Marie’s first publication, Bleu, was released last year with Morel Books. In 2018 she will have a solo exhibition at the prestigious Dusseldorf Photo Weekend after winning their 2017 Portfolio Review Award.
