is a compositional technique for creating musical harmony by
repetition of similar melody with time delay. In this installation, the canon is reinterpreted as an emergent kinetic musical instrument. It consists of six layered kinetic sculpture making rhythmical percussion sound by its own motion. The motion of each kinetic sculpture is triggered by the present position of body walking through space over time. In this way, it generates overlayed emergent percussion sound and motion with interval depending on overlapping the present and the past of body in space.

Emergent Pattern Making We made a series of emergent pattern.
Structure Making Fix the laser cut pieces on a axiel shaft to make a flexible and rotateble emergent pattern. The pattern part will be fixed on servo by wood cross.
We use 1.5 meter length timber wood bar and 15 mm thickness timber wood board made a stand structure to hold the rotation part. The base of this wood stand is designed in trangle fixator to extenuate the viberation from sevor. Audience could obeserve the rotation it in a parallel eyesight and influence rotaion angles by apporaching this installation.
We use Kinect as our motion sensing input device which could collect 3D data and recognise participantâ€™s position and gesture. In this project, we use it as the imput device to collect participantâ€™s motio data, especially their hand gesture and postion. When participant lift his hand and walking close to the installation, each layerâ€™s pattern will rotate as same angle with his hand. Then, the rotation will spread cross layers with the time go on .

Third Idea: A Kinetic Emergent Sound Machine Cog Design
According to the feedback from audience, each layerâ€™s pattern is too compilcated and abstract their attention. Another problem is the scale of installation is too large. To solve these problem, we change each layer to a more simple shape and use cog to transfer movement from servor to pattern part. Then, the pattern part could show a clear full view without shelter of servo. To present the idea of melody Canon, we add each layer with a shade inside which enclosed several marbles. With the rotation of shade, marbles will pronounce click sound with rhythem.
Table-stand Structure To provide a more stable support and save more cost, we build a table-stand structure to hold each layer of installation.
All the wood and archlic components are cut by laer cutting macine. Most parts are connected by screws and
wood glue to make them stable. However, the core part, which include motor hoseing and cog’s joints use mor-

Table-stand Structure • Screwed M12 steel is used to fix at the shafr position with bolt. • M6 screwed steel was cutted in B-made to keep a fixed distance between two arlic pannel.
