COMMON MISTAKES MADE DURING INTERIOR DESIGNING It is crucial to pay attention to the complete layout of your space. Poor space management can lead to your space feeling congested and cramped. Try to multi use each room; a bedroom can hold wall mounted shelves to hold your favourite books instead of compromising space for a big bookshelf.

HOME IMPROVEMENT

Choose a color palette and stick to it while purchasing furniture and dĂŠcor. Opt for a neutral palette for easy color coordination. Have an accent colour which is bright and contrasting compared to other elements to create a bold look.

Warmer lighting produces a calmer and more relaxed atmosphere which is suitable for living rooms and bedrooms. Choose cooler lighting when it comes to office spaces and studies, where increased concentration and alertness is desired.

LITHIUM ION BATTERY

By Ali Furugan

Battery is the primary power source for any electronics wireless gadget, be it a camera, smartphone, laptop, watch or remote. A battery can be defined as; it is a combination of one or more electrochemical cells that are capable of converting stored chemical energy into electrical energy.

*Tesla cell out from the battery pack

You can see different layers of chemical compounds inside Tesla’s lithium-ion battery. It works on an interesting concept associated with metals, called the electrochemical potential.

ELECTROCHEMICAL POTENTIAL IS THE TENDENCY OF A METAL TO LOSE ELECTRONS In fact, the very first cell, developed by Alessandro Volta, more than 200 years ago was based on the same concept.

A practical lithium-ion cell also uses an electrolyte and graphite. Graphite has a layered structure. These layers are loosely bonded so that the separated lithium ions can be stored very easily there. The electrolyte, between the graphite and the metal oxide, acts as a guard which allows only lithium ions through. In a practical cell, the graphite and metal oxide are coated onto copper and aluminum foils. The foils act as current collectors here, and the positive and negative tabs can be easily taken out from the current collectors. All these three sheets are wound onto the cylinder, around a central steel core, thus making the cell more compact. Lets try to better understand the basic principle, to understand the technological advancement happening in lithium-ion battery. Li-Ion battery uses Lithium ions as the charge carriers which move from the negative electrode to the positive elec-

trode during discharge and back when charging. When we connect a power source, the external current from the source applies an over voltage than that in the battery. This forces the current to pass in the reverse direction from the positive to the negative electrode, the positive side of the power source attracts the electrons. Electrolyte is used to block the electron flow through it, so it flow through the external circuit and traps in the graphite layers.

Similarly the negative side of the power source attracts the lithium ions, and they too get trap in the graphite layer. When load is connected, all the electrons in the graphite layer will flow through the load. It is amazing to know the electronic gadgets we used two decade back did not use lithium-ion batteries. With its amazing speed of growth, the lithium-ion battery market is expected to become a 90-billion-dollar annual industry within a few years. Without this energy sources we wouldn’t be able to build any wireless electronic device and have to rely on wired power source only, even electric cars and space missions would not be possible without Batteries.

This habit burns calories, so be sure to eat well and drink plenty of water to nourish and strengthen your body. Eating healthy foods and the right amount of calories helps you and your baby gain the proper amount of weight. Of all the cravings during pregnancy, remember you are not actually eating for two like most of the pregnant women say and is a medical myth too. Many women who do ‘eat for two’ end up gaining excessive amount of weight. You actually only need 300 extra calories a day! You certainly should be increasing the amount of nutrients. IMPORTANCE OF PARENTS UNDERSTANDING AND PREVENTION By Ali Furugan

In the 21st century, parents are primarily concerned of the wellbeing of their children. According to different research’s, recently there is an alarmingly increased number of bullying cases reported from schools. It is important that a child’s school life has a positive impact on their lives; a bad school experience can leave the child with negative mental effects that can follow them into adolescence.

Recent researches show that most children who are involved in bullying come from neglectful and violent homes. As technology is expanding and children are more involved online, cyber bullying is uprising. Cyber-bullying is often a choice of a bully as it has a wider audience.

It is also worth considering whether the parents behavior might be influencing their children as some parents lifestyle often directs the children to copy these behaviors.

Below listed are some of the things which could be done to stop this negative impact on their social environment as it If you think your child is bully- cannot be addressed by the ing another, it is important to schools alone for it requires the get to the depth of the problem involvement of the guardians. and find out their motivation.

- Learning the warning signs: visible signs as changes that occur in children’s mood and personality could often be related to being harassed at school along with many other signs which the child would many times avoid telling people if they are bullied. - Being familiar with school policies: this would help understand the actions taken against bullying and methods enforced by the school to prevent such activities. - Reporting to the schools administration:meeting school staffs in person if your child is being bullied which indicates your commitment to resolve the situation. - Volunteering in school events: schools could be short on staff due to budget cuts and variety of reasons which might expose your children to lack of supervision at times. This could help recruit other parents who are motivated to bring an end to bullying in school. You could organize meetings to brainstorm ideas Bullying is avoidable, every child should get the chance to experience and cherish good memories of their educational years instead of having a negative experience caused by the atmosphere they attend to study.

AS PARENTS IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DO ALL WE COULD TO PREVENT IT.

Apply coconut oil on your skin prior shaving to avoid common problems caused such as ingrown hair, cuts and rashes. The coconut oil acts as a moisturising barrier between the blade and your skin.

For a gentler cleanser use rosewater with an essential oil. If you use commercial cleanser, look for sulfate-free options. Sulfates strip your skin of natural oils, and upset the Ph balance.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY:

A POWER TOOL FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH By Uza. Mariyam Hudha

Maldives has experienced a significant growth in last decade, mainly driven by economic activities such as tourism, fisheries, trade and construction, with contributions from transport and communications. I believe over the years; intellectual property rights have been overlooked and it’s importance and value to trade and investment has been unexplored. As a result of this Maldives has no Act that has been enacted in terms of intellectual property rights. Since there has been no Act related to Intellectual Property Law in Maldives, any legal dispute that arises regarding this is settled by way of common law.

ZZURRA ADS 30

However, in order to educate business, investors, entrepreneurs, public and other stakeholders, on all aspects of IP rights,

The Ministry of Economic Development established an Intellectual Property Unit in 2007.

The Maldives also benefits from the World Trade Organization, which provides protection under the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) agreement. The TRIPS agreement plays a critical role in resolving trade disputes over intellectual property. Furthermore, the Maldives Government is also seeking technical assistance from the World Intellectual Property Organization to develop such IPR laws and regulations, which is very important to Maldives.

Maldives is a small market due to its economy and population; therefore, its trade sector is fairly well regulated. To facilitate a free and fair trade of goods and services in the market, I believe that the legislation on Intellectual Property Rights must be enacted. It is also important that Maldives becomes a member of the relevant International treaties like Madrid Agreement and Protocol for registration of international marks, Lisbon Agreement for the protection of appellations of origin and their international registration, Berne Convention for literary and artistic works and The Hague Agreement for international registration for industrial designs. ZZURRA ADS 34

To support economic growth and competitiveness in the market, IPR laws need to be in place for any country including Maldives. Moreover, according to the Ministry of Economic Development, they are currently working on the key pieces of legislation to protect the other essential part of intellectual property and industrial property rights.

Maldives has no Act that has been enacted in terms of intellectual property rights.
