Welcome to Taipei Municipal Zhong Zheng Senior High School, where we long to share with you a sense of the dynamic, compassionate, rigorous educational lives lived here.

TMZZSH has high expectations for students and strives for success for all Our goal is to build on the focus of “relevant education for all,” but providing the tools necessary to become outstanding citizens with academic attitudes and skills

We bring together students of all backgrounds and invite them on a journey that leads them from self to selflessness, from individuality to inter-dependence, from the finest classrooms to the real world. We offer a bridge and welcome all to cross that bridge together to the world — wherever our students desire to go.

Our mission is to develop a school where no one left to be alone. Relationships are built between students, staff and families to create a community and develop the supports for students to become successful. We believe we have developed the solid foundation and now continue to build focusing on school culture and climate for all students to have a positive high school experience

We believe in a balanced educational programme including rigor and relevance in all courses. We offer a diverse range of courses in elective subjects to make self-explore possible for students. Also, we engage to develop cross-disciplinary courses which focus on issues relating to culture, global citizenship, society and science. Our belief is for all students to become critical thinkers, creative problem solvers as well as inquisitive and diligent readers and researchers.

TMZZSH has a rich tradition which makes this school the home of talents and champions. The school was built in 1945. The structural plan of the building provides: a full gym, a library and 4 media centers, well-equipped labs for science, a classic and air-conditioned auditorium, 69 standard sized classrooms, a nurse ’ s suite, and individual instructional rooms for art, music, and all academic areas

Our teachers come from the most distinguished colleges and universities All of them have bachelor’s degrees, seventy-eight percent have master’s degrees Just as important as their credentials are their passion and dedication to the art of teaching, which is demonstrated in their classrooms on a daily basis and acknowledged in student highly performances year after year.

TMZZSH cares for each student and offers a broad programme to develop all to their highest potential in all aspects of their being. Character education is woven throughout our programmes and focuses on the school-wide values of respect, responsibility, justice, self-disciplined, and kindness. We show our care for one another by maintaining high standards for academic achievement and for personal conduct. Kindness, consideration and civility are hallmarks of TMZZSH students. We want to cultivate in our students not only important tools like problem solving, analysis, creative thinking and clear communications, but we also want our students to live lives of honor, duty, courage and kindness. We want them to explore who they are through learning, to construct self-value from commitment, to broaden their visions through understanding in this global rapidly changing era We strive to develop global citizens who are academically, morally and technologically prepared to succeed

STATEMENT OF TMZZSH

Zhong-Zheng Senior High School has a definitive mission: To provide every student with a sound academic foundation, a positive environment, and the skills necessary to continue learning as a lifelong pursuit, so as to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who contribute to construct a better world with intercultural understanding and respect. ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Taipei Municipal Zhong Zheng High School (TMZZSH) was founded in 1945. Dubbed as the second largest school campus-wide in Taipei City. The school is on a changing trajectory located in a Taipei City Development Project, which is a science and technology park under construction. It has a rich tradition that makes the school the home of talents and sound youth. The profile of staffs in TMZZSH is committed to creating a positive and active class, and also committed to professional ethics, standards of practice and the care of young children

TMZZSH has long been recognized as one of the best academic high schools in Taipei, with over 98 percent of its senior graduates going to universities and colleges in Taiwan and global. The school boasts its excellent implementation of national curriculum and its international division and linkage with schools and universities locally and abroad. The school attracts students from the wider community of Taipei, and New Taipei City, Taoyuan City and the neighboring suburbs.

our learning environment

TMZZSH is well-known for its open atmosphere in education, and its aim is to develop a supportive learning environment for students. It has been the experimental school of school-based curriculum development and has offered two experimental classes of science and language learning. Now, it is one of the pioneer schools in Taiwan to implement the New Pedagogy Deep Learning which sets the focus on 6 competences development through supportive teaching strategies. In order to equip students’ competences to adapt to the rapidly changes, TMZZSH emphasize the hands-on projects and cooperate with Siemens and National Taipei University of Technology to implement Artificial Intelligence Program.

TMZZSH has been playing the role of pioneer school in international programs in Taiwan TMZZSH started its international division in February 2018 The Joint Diploma Program (JDP) with Fairmont International School is the very first international joint diploma program in Taiwan The JDP aims to equip students with the rigorous academic knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to succeed at English language universities and ultimately in an increasingly globalized world

Joint Diploma Program & International Foundation Year

Under the leadership of Principal Chiang, TMZZSH has high performance in teaching and learning and got the reliance of partner schools TMZZSH led five other high schools in Taipei to implement the first International Foundation Year (IFY) Program in August 2019 The IFY Program is accredited by NCUK and has worked to provide courses in four streams, Business, Arts and Design, Science and Engineering, and assists in matching students with comparable majors in 48 partnered universities and colleges in the UK, the US, Australia and Zealand. TMZZSH organized Taipei Schools of IFY and provided the supports for partner schools

TMZZSH has the largest number of students taking international courses in Taipei and has most various international divisions. TMZZSH students also enjoy rich active extracurricular lives with over 40 oncampus clubs and organizations. Students in TMZZSH are highly selfdriven and self-committed. TMZZSH has set the community service learning as one of the requirements of diploma. TMZZSH’s students are welcome by higher education and its alumni contribute to the progressive society

Since 2017, it has been our main goal and passion to enhance internationalization of our school, and hence we have been reaching out for the global resources and bring the resources to our school classes so as to cultivate students’ competency and global perspectives that are desperately needed for the future.

TMZZSH aims to build a stronger and larger division of international program with the addition of the Diploma Programme It hopes to transform into a municipal version of an international school, taking in students of diverse national, cultural and linguistic backgrounds Further, the implementation of the Diploma Programme at TMZZSH manifests the vision of the Taipei City Government in its pursuit of nourishing global perspectives among youngsters

The implementation of the Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme is expected to bring in more highly-motivated students from various backgrounds including the future students from the Beitou Shilin Technology Park whose parents coming from overseas would like to take academic challenges and broaden their perspectives through this globally acclaimed international curriculum of IBDP & CP.

With IBDP & CP implementation, the school expects to grow its teaching staff in its bilingual capacity. The implementation of the Diploma Program foregrounds additional staffing, with native English proficency and IB qualifications This has potential for the school to have a greater proportion of bilingual staff, up to 25% to 30% in its phase of candidacy and over 50% over time until the school reaches 100% bilingual staff to prepare for the national goal of bilingual education in 2030

The IB Career-related Programme (with NCUK IFY as the CRS provider) is to respond to the needs of young people who would benefit from aspects of the Diploma Programme and who hope to focus their studies on university or career preparation The IBCP engages students with a rigorous study programme that intrigues them while gaining transferable and lifelong skills The IBCP Proramme encompasses some elements of the IBDP within its structure. It also includes the IB’s educational philosophy and mission, including Learners’ Profile and ATL. The IBCP has a taught component that comprises of the following: two IBDP Courses at Standard Level or Higher Level; a career-related study course (IFY); the CP Core (a Personal and Professional Skills (PPS) course/ a language development course/Service Learning/Reflective Project). Also, the IBCP provides students with various hands-on learning experiences such as international work experience and various opportunities to meet with professionals in their career-related study area

The CP Core components are designed to bridge each student’s academic courses and his or her chosen CareerRelated studies while developing skills and competencies for their career-related and university studies The core components are respectively listed as follows:

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS (PPS)

This aim is to help students cultivate skills, including applied ethics, thinking processes, intercultural understanding, communication, and personal development, which are needed to assist them in successfully navigating higher education, the workplace, and society.

SERVICE LEARNING

This core involves the practical development and application of the students’ career-related knowledge and skills (business/science/engineering) toward meeting a genuine community need. Students also need to apply personal and social skills to real-life situations involving decision-making, problem-solving, and responsibility

LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

This allows students to extend the study of another language (i.e. English for Academic Purposes) other than their mother tongue. This learning accommodates their CRS needs, backgrounds, and contexts, in order to help them to improve their linguistic and communicative abilities in academic and career-related contexts

REFLECTIVE PROJECT

Students are required to produce an in-depth body of work over the duration of the programme in which students comprehend, apply, analyse, synthesize and evaluate an ethical issue linked with their Career-Related studies It aims to enhance the students’ higher-order thinking, research, and extended communication skills

OUR LANGUAGE POLICY

PRINCIPLES

TMZZSH creates a challenging and motivating multilingual environment where the language of instruction is English, thus encouraging internationally minded individuals We view language as a tool for making meaning in the world. Language does much more than promote cognitive growth; it is crucial for maintaining cultural identity and emotional stability The acquisition of more than one language and maintenance of the mother tongue enrich personal growth and help facilitate international understanding. As language, by its very nature, is integrated into all areas of the curriculum We strongly believe in the ideal that all teachers are language teachers and should promote the concept of communication in its variety of forms throughout the school community We also believe that every student has an individual andaculturalsetofexperiences,skillsandinterests,whichmustbe considered in the teaching and learning process. The development of critical literacy is considered important factor in fostering international-mindednessthroughthepromotionofculturalidentity, interculturalawarenessandglobalcitizenship.

LANGUAGE & INCLUSION

At TMZZSH, students develop and keep up with their first language, home language and the medium of instruction languageswhilepursuingtheirstudiesatTMZZSH.

Students whose primary language is not English, TMZZSH acknowledges that EAL students are tasked to learn English, to haveaccesstocurriculumandtolearnitinthetargetlanguage, whichisalsothemediumofinstruction.

Allteachersworktogetherintheinclusivedesignanddeliveryof the curriculum EAL students also learn English through subjects by accommodated instruction, strategies of teaching, differentiatedassessmentandextension.

Through observations, data collection and assessments to build the language Profile helps to inform teaching, learning and assessmentofthelanguagelearning.
