EDITOR’S DESK ear Colleagues, Jan 1, 2020 is the start of a new year and a new decade. As a company we have grown from our humble beginnings to where we are now. A very special thanks to all of our current and past team members who have put in their sincere efforts towards the growth of the company. During the last couple of years we have made significant progress towards building the different organizational units with dedicated leadership and independent functioning. As we grow our services operations we have to keep a watch on where the world is moving. The digital landscape has evolved significantly over the last decade. The next decade is going to the be the one where AI is going to become mainstream and where it becomes a key part of the digital ecosystems.

As a company specializing in building digital solutions, we have to focus our effort on building our expertise in the growth areas in the digital technology space. Some of them being AI driven automation, personalization and communication. In addition to building solutions that include some of these technologies, we have to build re-usable components, solutions, prototypes and products based on these technologies and platforms. We also have to remember that the age of hosted monolithic custom solutions has passed. We have to embrace distributed and interconnected applications that leverage services, It is heartening to see that we have kickstarted initiatives around these internally. EDITOR’S DESK here is a real story in the Bible. A teenage boy from a large family saw a dream of him becoming a powerful man with his parents and brothers paying obeisance to him. He went on dreaming on same lines and dared to share the dream with his brothers. Brothers burned with envious fury and at an opportune time they caught him by force and sold him to a slave trade caravan who in turn sold him in the slave market in Egypt. The slave boy lived faithfully to God and his dream with his master as well as in prison. Cutting the story short, in a decade he became a man of high power among rulers in Egypt next to pharaoh only. His brothers and parents survived a great famine in their land on account of this boy and literally they paid obeisance. Moral of the story is that one who lives with dream reach there in the end.

s 2019 draws to a close, we are starting this news letter series. It is a wonderful initiative and I would like to congratulate the team behind this. Wishing them good luck with this initiative. Our last few months have been a mixed bag for us. While the year began strongly for us with Wunderman, INSEAD, The Playhouse Group and our existing clients like Benzinga, we could not sustain the momentum for a variety of reasons. Further, the sales and marketing initiatives have taken more time than anticipated to reach maturity. But what has been commendable is the fairly rapid improvements made towards controlled project execution. This has brought

about visible results by improving our processes and governance. The impact of this has been seen in the form of improved client satisfaction in some of our recent engagements; for instance our engagement with Merittrac Services Private Limited, 22nd Century Media LLC, Mind Petal etc. Another positive has been the maturing of our Support Services which has been a preferred model for many clients looking to start with us. The operational complexity involved in delivering this service has been managed well. These would not have been achieved without the personal leadership displayed at all levels of our services delivery organisation. The next target that we should set for

At a strategic level, we have moved towards greater clarity on our positioning in today’s world. A key differentiator for us will be high quality engineering as we pursue an Open Web strategy in the coming years. While this has been a key character of the organisation, this has not been made explicit in the activities across the organisation. The systems that have been built by each of you have been robust, scalable and extendable.

The completion of 10 years of our engagement with Benzinga is a good testimony to this. In the coming year, we will make this more explicit and we will achieve this positioning through our operational model, talent management, branding and partnerships. It is also an approach that is closely aligned with our commitment to Free and Open Source Software and fits in well with our organisational DNA. Which brings me to the last point. The recently concluded Global Drupal Training Day was a resounding success and the contributors behind it have to be appreciated for the hard work. This will mark a beginning of revival of

he last two years, 2018-19 and 2019-20 saw a lot of flux within the Zyxware family. Be it employee attrition, transitions in roles, changes in leaderships, processes etc. Changes taking place within an organisation can be tumultuous and stressful. In anticipation of the stress it could cause the employees, Zyxware management put in place certain strategies to overcome the resistance to change in the workplace:

Identify the key resources in the organisation and their strengths – Zyxware management identified certain key employees whom they thought could be the drivers of these changes and could influence the team members in a positive manner 2. Map these key resources to the growth factors – These key resources were mapped to each of their verticals and domains identified for the organisation

Now that we’re a few hours in the new year, it’s good to look ahead and think about what this year may bring us. But first, a quick look back of 2019.

2019 was quite a year for all of us at Zyxware. We’ve been through many changes, in sometimes less than favorable circumstances. But we’ve also achieved a huge amount together. In my conversations with many of you so far earlier, I have been humbled by your encouragement and support. One thing has stood out to me from these interactions: the pride, passion, and commitment from all of you towards Zyxware and our customers is outstanding.

In the original transformation plan, the expectation was that 2019 would mark the end of our core delivery issues and stepping up the game to 60%. Through rigorous streamlining, we have made good progress in all areas resulting in billable productivity numbers of our two digital hubs scaling from 40% to 83% on average, in six months’ time. This is an outstanding achievement, your commitment has set a new benchmark for 2020. Of course, there’s still a lot of work ahead of us from being a truly agile scalable organization.

In short, the current circumstances are all quite challenging to work in. But no matter what the circumstances are, we must not lose sight of our

priority: to be a strong and financially sustainable company that puts the customer, colleagues and our society at the heart of everything we do.

Team Division The entire team was divided into four for better project and people management.

Productivity of billable projects increased from 40% to 80% and overall productivity from 25% to 70%. Hats off to the entire team!

The main reason behind this success is definitely the hard work, dedication and contribution of the entire team. Adding to it are some changes in the process.

1. Delivery team involvement from the presales phase.

The estimation and scoping are done by delivery team and this has considerably reduced the estimation overrun.

2. Project planning and resource allocation done inline with estimates.

3. Strong requirements gathering and clear definition of acceptance criteria has enabled us to identify change requests astutely.

4. Daily standup calls and weekly client calls have reduced or rather eliminated the communication gaps between stakeholders. Discussions on risks, assumptions and dependencies all happens here.

5. Project Managers are now being involved in reviewing the contract for any ambiguities.

a meeting to discuss project progress, upcoming milestones, challenges and new initiatives and this has facilitated inter team collaboration.

It is obvious that this would not have been possible without the continuous help and support of our co working departments, Sales, HR, QA, Solutions and Finance. New policies, improvements & activities 1. We are in the process of restructuring the Delivery organisation for better employee career growth and performance orientation.The new restructuring involves new definitions, roles and structures. To align people goals with the company and making it specific & measurable we have started the KRA/KPI initiatives which directly focuses on individual skills and career growth.

2. To improve group and individual performance by increasing and honing skills and knowledge, we introduced the following activities during the second half of this year,.

We re-initiated the usage of Knowledge portal and every week team members spend some time contributing to the portal in the form of microstories, articles or components and we now have nearly 50 items added to the portal. We are planning to extend the knowledge portal content to other departments of Zyxware, one being collaboration of Sales and Delivery for any pre sales activity to be done through the Knowledge Portal 3. Introduced the CI/CD for Drupal. This is aimed at achieving quality, consistency and speed of delivery on medium to large scale projects through BUILD, TEST and DEPLOY software every time a developer pushes code to the application. We are in the process of building the next phase of CI/CD which is for Magento.

4.Team beats & Heat beats - An initiative where the entire team participates in assessing the health of the projects. It is done by the team filing a form. The result of the analysis is discussed within team and improvement steps are taken appropriately.

5. Introduced PMO framework & Policy for Zyxware Document Naming & Data Security Standards.

The purpose of this initiative is to standardise the document naming process and define security standards to ensure permissions are granted appropriately.

For example: docker save mysql > mysql.tar load works with Docker images. Use this command if you want to run an image exported with save. Unlike pull, which requires connecting to a Docker registry, load can import from anywhere (e.g. a file system, URLs).

For example: docker load < mysql.tar export works with Docker containers, and it exports a snapshot of the container’s file system. Use this command if you want to share or back up the result of building an image.

For example: docker export a3dsfas33gsd > mysql-container.tar import works with the file system of an exported container, and it imports it as a Docker image. Use this command if you have an exported file system you want to explore or use as a layer for a new image.
