PRECEDENTS PATTERN - VISUAL EFFECT - UNCANNY - LONELINESS - STRUCTURE

EXISTENTIALISM

CONCEPTUAL DIAGRAM By working with the emptiness, darkness, and mysterious qualities of the site, the solitary and social spaces are placed under the bridge like a choreography.

Three programs are introduced within this pattern; the privatereflective space of the bathhouse; the partially concealed hammocks where the individual can observe the urban scenes and the more communal experience of the outdoor gym.

PART 1-OUTDOOR BATH HOUSE

PART 1-OUTDOOR BATH HOUSE DETAIL Bath house, layout generated by ground interlocking pattern.

This is located in the most emptiness area under the viaduct and the tiny bath houses are placed loosely inside. The bathhouse, is a completely private space.

People can lie in and with a comfortable bathing. This small space can give a person a sense of security. But it also force people to look out. The visual contact with the outside relying on the small window, this feeling might make one forget their solitude.

A chair is abstracted into the bathroom space. The privacy of the bathroom also corresponds to the "individual" meaning of a chair.

PART 2-HAMMOCKS

PART 2-HAMMOCKS DETAIL

A symmetrical stacking pattern that provides support for the hammock.

The hammock brings a sense of instability, but also provides a semi-enclosed space. This is the darkest part of the site and people rely on the ambient light to sense their surroundings, like the shadows and sounds. Although people are still hidden in the darkness, it represents a transition to a collective.

The increase in the number of chairs represents the gradual transformation of the individual into a collective.

The pattern provides support for the climber. Both the structure and the plant are using their own tension to connect to the outside world.

The tram stop, representing arrival and departure. So the pattern acts as a curtain, creating a space for passengers to use. Showing the most original and powerful visual effect.

WATER CIRCULATION

Water on site can be recycled through underground water purification facilities.

REFLECTION

Overall, I have created a reflective space t eventually people can meet and reconcilew

to explore loneliness, and meaning through the pattern of stacked chairs, uncanny and empty undercroft. I hope that with themselves here. Don't be afraid of solitude, of the dark, of the uncanny.
