Problem There weren’t many signs around SFSU campus to indicate the direction of the library. Due to the signage being too small and too hard to see, guidance around and in side of the library is inefficient and ineffective.

Proposal In order to solve this problem, we have decided to make signs stand out more by adding bold colors, eye-catching size, and strategic placement that has a large amount of traffic

Pathway We are focusing on 19th and Holloway to the entrance room 121 in the library..

Location and Placement

Ideally placed high enough so that it does not injure anyone but also able to be seen from a far distance.

Traffic Flow

Ideally, directories should be placed near the entrance of the school where there’s not that many foot traffic so that students can stop and look without causing any foot traffic to those passing by.

Universal Design

Braille should be implemented into all signages so that its inclusive.

Potential Pathway Applications

Arrow on walls and floor to direct people where to go.

We want to focus on using rectangular/square shapes to match the signs at sfsu. We also want to use arrows so that people can easily navigate their way around the campus.

Backlit letters and logos Placed on both entrances

The main issue with the current sign is that it’s hard to see at a distance without any vibrant colors so we wanted to place it by both the entrances and have lights behind each word and logo

The arrows and words will be backlit for visibility at night The icons help grab attention

I decided to place the signs on the light posts because of the vast amount of them around campus and ones surrounding the library seems like a good choice.

The SFSU color themed sign help grab attention from a distance while being informative

Room Signage

Currently, the room signage does not have any indication of the room being available which can be confusing. We decided to add braille for the visually impaired so that they can read the room number, room name, and availability.

Hallway Signage Currently, there are no signs indicating where the elevator is. As you can see in the picture, the elevator is tucked in the back corner. It is hard to see the elevator behind the wall.

The sign will be double sided so that people can see it from both directions.
