My day out by the sea

I went down to Shoebury and sat on a bench, it was with my friend Heather, by the sea.

We looked at the water and the boats, Heather and me and watched the children playing gleefully.

We went there and had a treat and then Heather drove me home and I went to mums and had tea to eat.

I think of my lovely day out just Heather and me sitting on the bench just watching the sea at Shoebury.

With the sun on the water and people flying kites and the children on their bikes.

It is definitely the place that everyone likes.

So if you want to relax just think about Shoebury and sit by the water and look out at the sea.

The White Hart, Hawkwell

T

he White Hart looks as if it has stood in its pride of place, at the top of the hill looking down on the Common and the rest of Hawkwell, for centuries. On searching the records the earliest date found was 1792 when James Benton was the Innholder. It doesn’t appear to show on the map by Chapman & Andre of 1777.

Elsewhere I found that in the mid 18th Century a stage coach went three times a week through Ironwell Lane, which was then the main road, and on to London. So perhaps the date of 1792 was right, for the White Hart to appear, to take advantage of the new influx of travellers. Sadly now, since boundary changes, the White Hart is in Hockley.

Funerals Rev Peter Smith seeks to offer comfort and support to people who have been bereaved and welcomes the opportunity to conduct a church or crematorium-­‐ based funeral followed by a burial or interment of ashes. Church funerals are more usually held at St Mary's which is a beautiful church offering an intimate setting; it can seat up to 100 people and for those recently living within the parish, lends itself naturally to a burial in the churchyard.

Emmanuel, a lovely modern building can seat 200 people.

Ashes can be added to an existing family grave or interred in the Ashes Plot.

The names of those who are buried or interred in the churchyard or the Ashes Plot can be recorded in our Memorial Book.

The Wudang Mountains

W

ithin the mountains of Wudang is the home of an ancient and wondrous religion named Taoism. For centuries these mountains have been nationally renown for embodying this religion, which happens to be China’s most famous and ancient belief.

Taoism; ‘Tao’, literally translates to ‘way’; is believed to of first been practiced in the 4th century BC and it embodies a very peaceful philosophy that emphasises the need for living in harmony.

The Wudang Mountains house monasteries which are sacred shrines for the Taoism belief and worship. Forging the invisible connections between the living and the spirits, only with complete respect and honour will one be invited in.

The halls of the monasteries are broad with tall brass and golden statues that press a gravity as they stare you to the ground.

Photography is not allowed within.

The highest peak of the Wudang Mountains stretches over 1600 metres and at its summit is a small shrine of Taoist worship still occupied and protected by worshipers today.

Even in the blistering winds of winter’s wrath, they stand there committed to their beliefs. They continue to pray at the peak with only a narrow and jagged set of stone steps enduring the path to the summit. With the winds scarring ice and frost with all it touches; had the ‘way’ of Tao protected them through their treacherous ascension?

400 Homes at Fossetts Farm

T

hey are building 600 homes at Hall Road Rochford that will no doubt put an enormous additional strain on the already overloaded district roads and services. Now they are proposing to build an additional 400 homes at Fossetts Farm between Waitrose and the proposed new football stadium, on top of other developments already planned for the east of this area in Wakering. I believe they should stop all additional house building to the east until they sort out the road bottle neck at Priory Park. I am sure the additional traffic generated would cut through Rochford District when travelling north and we will end up with even more gridlock situations.

The proposed Fossetts Farm building area was green belt, as is the area proposed for a Southend football training ground north of the proposed stadium in Rochford District. If this area behind Waitrose is now available, why not use it for the training ground? But of course that would not make loads of Alan James money for developers.
