With regard to bulk electricity supply, Sinyosi said that Louis Trichardt’s main substation would be upgraded this year from 44 MVA to 66 MVA. For the first time ever, Songozwi Village will also be electrified, while Eskom and the Makhado Municipality will jointly provide electrical con­ nections to 67 households in Madabani (Phase 2), 628 households at Rathidili (Phase 2), 160 households at Mavhunga­Muromani (Phase 2) and 54 households at Maname Paradise (Phase 2). A total of R25 million was allocated for the above­mentioned projects. R13,2 million was also allocated to allow Eskom to electrify a further 814 households at Esdras/Mingard village, Siloam extension, Muhovhoya extension, Muungamunwe (Phase 2) and Raliphaswa village respectively.

Makhado itself will implement electrical connec­ tions at Pfumembe, Tshitwi, Afton, Sane, Straig­ hthardt, Maranikwe, Doli­Doli, Smokey, Divhani, Posaito, Ngundu, Khomele, Khunda, Matshavhawe and Ramantsha at a cost of R3 million. In total, 2057 households will be supplied with electrical connections this coming financial year.

Water and Sanitation

Sinyosi said that water remained a matter of life and death. “We remain concerned that the water service authority is still with the district municipal­ ity, at the expense of our immediate communities.

We shall continue to work with the Vhembe district and other government authorities to find long­term solutions to the household and bulk water supply challenge in the municipal area. The reality directly affects our growth as a town and a municipality,” said Sinyosi.

Roads and Infrastructure

Also included in the 2017/18 capital budget are several labour­intensive projects in regard of roads and infrastructure. The projects include: * The Sereni Themba to Mashamba post office

access road (R16 693 775); * The construction of a second waste disposal cell at the newly built dumping site outside Louis Trichardt that will open on 1 July (R2 196 000); * Access road to new landfill site (R500 000); * The Tshikwarani to Zamekomste Road (R13 million); * Tshedza to Vuvha Access road (R14 million); * Mbhokota, Gombita, Tshivhuyuni to Mphagi road, phase 2 (R14 million); * Valdezia access road, phase 2 (R14 million); * Fencing off of the Makhado municipal ceme­ tery (R1 million); * Mudimeli bridge and access road (R10 mil­ lion); * Erf 210 Burger Street market revitalization project (R500 000); * Waterval Region refuse transfer station (R1 million); and * Erection of eight high masts (R2 million).

“We have received very clear calls by the com­ munities of Eltivillas, Newtown (Louis Trichardt) and Makhado Park on specific service delivery concerns that they have. This includes debushing of areas with high bushes, potholes in the town, water quality and supply shortages, entrance and exit roads in town, ramps and speed humps and the high level of crime. We have received a clear request from the Makhado Sector Policing Forum that we install cameras in the town, so that we can digitally monitor our streets for any criminal activities and policing interventions,” said Sinyosi.

The above is a summary of Sinyosi’s bud­ get speech. Over the next couple of weeks, the newspaper will do more in­depth articles on the different projects and budget allocations. The most significant part that was absent from Siny­ osi’s budget speech was any mention on how the municipality will fund all these projects and what their Operational Budget entails. The Operational Budget, among other, deals with rates and taxes and how much more consumers will have to fork out this coming financial year. The newspaper is in the process of obtaining a complete copy of the Operational Budget and will also report on it as soon as the information becomes available.

Little water in taps, but at least it is safe to drink

There might not always be enough water in Louis Trichardt’s taps, but at least it is safe to drink.

This is according to one of AfriForum’s most recent statements. On Monday, AfriForum’s Lim­ popo district coordinator, Mr Jaco Grobbelaar, said that Louis Trichardt’s water supply was among 10 selected towns’ that got tested.

The tests were carried out during May with the aim to ascertain the quality of the drinking water.

As part of the exercise, sewage water was also tested. Other towns where the tests were carried out included Phalaborwa, Marble Hall, Modimolle, Mookgophong, Bela­Bela, Tzaneen, Polokwane, Haenertsburg and Vaalwater.

“We established that the drinking water in the province is clean and contains no heavy metals, while bacteria levels adhere to applicable stan­ dards,” said Grobbelaar.

These assessments form part of AfriForum’s national blue­ and green­drop project that focuses on the quality of the drinking water and sewage plants of towns across South Africa. Where it concerns the sewage plants, the project is focused on the quality of water released after the process in the form of drinking water (blue drop) and treated sewage (green drop).

What the forum did find worrisome, not only in Louis Trichardt but all the other towns, was the state of the municipal sewage plants. “We must give attention to sewage plants. We cannot allow unfit municipal officers to pollute our water re­ sources and we plan on taking action in terms of the

mandate given to us by residents,” said Grobbelaar.

Their tests show that sewage “does not adhere to set standards.”

In the meantime, AfriForum wants to dig in for another round in court to force the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) to stick to court orders and supply water to residents. According to Grobbelaar, the VDM wants to get the court order, which was obtained on 17 March, set aside.

The court had ordered the VDM to, inter alia, restore the town’s water supply, re­establish the borehole project and protect all the boreholes from further vandalism. Furthermore, the VDM has to give notice timeously of when the community will be without water.

Currently, Louis Trichardt relies on water from a dysfunctional borehole system for water when the Albasini water supply system is down for repairs.

AfriForum has, for the past several years, proposed a plan of action to get the boreholes up and running to afford the VDM time to properly upgrade the Albasini network.

According to the local AfriForum chairperson, Mr Wally Schultz, the municipality has not yet made any efforts to comply with the court order.

This is, according to AfriForum and Schultz, due to the fact that VDM is planning to have the court order annulled.

AfriForum responded to the VDM’s application on 30 May, which deflected the battle back into VDM’s court, giving them 10 calendar days to re­ spond. This means that the case will again be placed on the role of the opposing court to be settled.

CoAL wants to put the record straight

Coal of Africa Limited (CoAL) reacted strongly to an article that appeared in last week’s edition of Zoutpansberger, stating that the article was factually incorrect and thereby brought into question CoAL’s integrity.

In a statement issued by Ms Florence Duval, CoAL’s group corporate affairs manager, she points out that the article demon­ strates a lack of understanding of the regulatory framework in which mining companies operate.

The article appeared under the heading “Lifted suspension does not give green light” and drew from two sets of information.

The one was a press release from CoAL announcing that the Minister of Water and San­ itation, Nomvula Mokonyane, had lifted the suspension on the mining company’s integrated water­use licence for their open­ cast Makhado mining project.

CoAL stated that the lifting of the suspension meant that they could commence with the devel­ opment of the Makhado Project.

The other source of information was the response of the Vhembe Mineral Resources Stakeholders

Forum (VMRF). The VMRSF’s legal representative, Mr Christo Reeders, stated that CoAL forgot to mention that an appeal that was filed against the project’s mining right was still pending, thus they could not continue with development.

In this regard, Duval stat­ ed several facts in relation to the announcement of CoAL’s readiness to commence with the Makhado Project. “In May 2015, the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) issued a New Order Mining Right (NOMR) to CoAL, which was subsequently transferred through a Section 11 to Baobab Mining and Explo­ ration (PTY) Ltd, the operating entity for the Makhado Project.

The NOMR was appealed by the Kuvule Community, and the VMRSF. The DMR dismissed the Kuvule appeal, but has not yet ruled on the VMRSF appeal, due to a supplementing of this based on reasons mentioned in your article. The Section 96(2)(a) of MPRDA as amended states that ‘an appeal in terms of subsection (1) does not suspend the admin­ istrative decision, unless it is suspended by the Director­Gen­ eral or the Minister, as the case may be.’ The NOMR is therefore

valid and fully executable,” said Duval.

Duval also referred to the In­ tegrated Water Use Licence. “As reported in the announcement of 29 May 2017, the lifting of the suspension of the IWUL by the Minister of Water and Sanitation renders the licence executable,” said Duval.

With regard to the Environ­ mental Authorisation (EA), Du­ val referred to the 25 July 2016 announcement that the DMR and the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Envi­ ronment and Tourism (LEDET) had amended the EA, changing the holder of the EA from CoAL to Baobab, and extending the va­ lidity of the licence for a further five years. “The VMRSF ap­ pealed this decision, which was dismissed by the Minister of En­ vironmental Affairs in November 2016. This was also announced on 2 November 2016. The EA is therefore fully executable. The Makhado Project is thus fully au­ thorised, in that it has three fully executable licences, the NOMR, the IWUL and the EA. CoAL is in the process of securing the outstanding surface rights and raising the capital required for the project,” states Duval.

SBBV sal na hofsake antwoorde gee Deur Isabel Venter

Die Soutpansberg Belastingbetalersvereniging (SBBV) het hierdie week aangedui dat hulle nie nou enige vrae sal beantwoord oor die beweerde wanbestuur van lede se fondse of hoe daar moontlik honderde duisende rande uit hul eie rekeninge verdwyn het nie.

Die spreekwoordelike “bom” het verlede maand ge­bars toe die SBBV se voormalige bestuurder, Phil­lip Olivier, gearresteer is op klagte dat hy die honderde duisende rande van die SBBV, en der­hal­ we die belastingbetalers, gesteel het. Hy het op 19 Mei in die Louis Trichardt Distrikshof ver­skyn op klagte van diefstal en is op R2 000 borg vrygelaat.

Die SBBV het Maandag (5de) gereageer op vrae wat die koerant kort ná Olivier se hofverskyning aan hulle gerig het oor die beweerde wanbestuur

van lede se fondse. “Die bestuur het eenparig besluit om my vorige skrywe aan jou te handhaaf, waar ons twee hofdatums in Junie maand het waar­ voor die nodige ondersoeke gedoen word vir die kriminele en siviele sake teen Phillip Olivier. Ons sal weer reageer op die uitkoms van hierdie sake,” het die e-pos van mev. Inga Gilfillan, voorsitter en interim SBBV bestuurder, gelees in antwoord op die koerant se navraag. Gilfillan het bygevoeg dat dit die SBBV se prioriteit is om gelde verskuldig aan die vereniging en sy lede terug te kry.

Ná aanleiding van ‘n interdik wat die SBBV in Mei teen Olivier gekry het (om te verhoed dat die R200 000 wat hy in sy prokureur se rekening inbetaal het aan hom terugbetaal word) het die Zoutpansberger die interdik, asook stawende be­ wysstukke wat die SBBV saam met die interdik by die hof geliasseer het, van nader bekyk.

Hoërskool Louis Trichardt het hierdie jaar hul eie rekord verbeter toe hulle amper R5 000 meer ingesamel het vir die Makhado Care Group as verlede jaar. Leerlinge, deur middel van die Triegie Bergfietsbrul vir Kanker, samel elke jaar geld in vir die groep wat help om plaaslike kankerpasiënte se mediese kostes te betaal. Van links na regs is me. Renata Joubert (fietsry-afrigter), mev. Jernay Mcleod (Makhado Care Group) en die skoolhoof, mnr. Louis Cilliers, afgeneem verlede Vrydag tydens die oorhandiging van die tjek ter waarde van R16 009. Afwesig tydens die neem van die foto was mnr. Johan van Djikhorst van Limpopo Cycling, wat gehelp het om die Bergfietsbrul te reël.

Hieruit blyk dit dat die SBBV se bestuur reeds in Januarie vanjaar onraad begin vermoed het.

Olivier was glo die enigste persoon met toegang tot die SBBV se bankrekening. Talle SBBV-lede het begin kla dat, ten spyte daarvan dat hulle maandeliks geld aan die SBBV oorbetaal vir die vereffening van hulle munisipale rekenings, hul elektrisiteit weens nie-betaling afgesny is. Dit het die SBBV genoop om inderhaas ‘n forensiese oudit te doen, wat daartoe gelei het dat die SBBV blykbaar in Maart ‘n kriminele klag teen Olivier by die Makhado polisie ingedien het.

Ingevolge die ouditverslag is daar ‘n tekort op­ gespoor van R274 068 gedurende die tydperk vanaf 1 Augustus 2016 tot 31 Januarie 2017. Olivier sou glo ook op 28 Mei 2015 en 1 Junie 2015 onderskeidelik betalings van R50 000 en R100 000 gemaak het vanuit die SBBV se rekening in sy eie rekening. Die betalings het glo gereflekteer as lenings wat die SBBV aan Olivier gemaak het.

Volgens die Makhado Polisie beloop die totale bedrag van die beweerde onregmatige onttrekkings wat Olivier sou gemaak het ‘n rapsie meer as R500 000. Die R200 000 wat Olivier in Februarie in ‘n trustrekening by sy prokureur, mnr. Charles Pieterse, inbetaal het, was blykbaar as sekuriteit, hangende die uitkoms van ‘n skikking tussen hom en die SBBV. Die twee partye se samesprekings het egter nie op ‘n gunstige uitkoms afgestuur nie.

Die redes is onduidelik, maar op 9 Mei het Olivier summier die dienste van sy prokureur beëindig en geëis dat die R200 000 binne 24 uur aan hom terugbetaal moet word. Die SBBV het hiervan te hore gekom en hulle prokureur, mnr. André Naude, versoek om ‘n dringende hofinterdik te bekom. Hierdie interdik is op 10 Mei aan die SBBV toegestaan in die Louis Trichardt Landdroshof. In terme van dié dokument is die R200 000 nou as’t ware “gevries” totdat die ouditeurs en die polisie hul ondersoek afgehandel het.

Intussen is Olivier se saak uitgestel tot 14 Junie vir die afhandeling van die polisie-ondersoek. Dit is ook die keerdatum vir die SBBV se interdik, waarna daar ná verwagting ‘n beslissing gemaak sal word oor die uitbetaling van die R200 000.

Francois Welman, is verlede Donderdagoggend, 1 Junie, na ‘n kort siekbed in die hospitaal in Evander (Secunda) aan hartversaking oorlede. Hy was 61 jaar oud gewees en het die afgelope maand gesukkel met sy gesondheid. Vir die afgelope ses maande het hy by sy broer, Gerhard, gebly. Inwoners van die Soutpansberg sal vir Francois onthou vir sy betrokkenheid in die konstruksiebdryf. SAAF Air Capability 2017

The Rooivalk had some “bite” this year, painted in the white United Nations colours. The “grinning” Rooivalk is used as the sharp end of the stick to provide close air support with its 70 mm rockets and 20 mm cannon.

The South African Air Force (SAAF) held its annual Air Capability Demonstration at the Roodewal weapons range on Wednesday, 31 May. A highlight of the air-power capability demonstration is always the spectacular flare dispensing by the Oryx helicopter.

Having overpowered the “enemy”, troops wait for the Oryx helicopter to airlift them home from the battlefield. In addition to SAAF elements, the demonstration also included the participation of The Oryx was the workhorse during the demonstration, and in addition to dropping water from Special Forces from Joint Operations, airborne forces from the SA Army and medical personnel bambi buckets, flew in troops and cargo and later lifted soldiers off the battlefield. from the SA Military Health Services.

The general purport of the Council Resolution is an increase in all the relevant charges in order to cope with increase in the operational costs. The above tariffs have increased by 6.6%, with exception of electricity tariffs which have increased by 7.86% for the 2017/18 financial year with effect from 1 July 2017.

Die Staat het ‘n pleitooreenkoms wat Deon en Niklaas aangegaan het ingedien as bewys hiervan.

Vanaf 14 Desember 2005 tot Mei 2006 het Deon skuldig gepleit op ses aanklagte wat ver­ band gehou het met die dood van 11 renosters.

In een geval het hy twee renosterbulle en een –koei naby Mbabane in die Kruger Nasionale Park doodgemaak en hul horings gestroop. Deon is toe gevang en op 29 Mei 2006 op borg van­ R10 000 vrygelaat. In die daaropvolgende drie maande het Deon skuld erken op ‘n verdere drie aanklagte wat verband gehou het met die dood van nog ses renosters.

Ná die uitspraak het al drie die mans die hof verlaat en versoek dat hul prokureurs hulle vergesel na die aanhoudingselle. Die drie sal in aanhouding bly totdat hulle kriminele verhoor afgehandel is. Al drie sal weer op 10 Julie in die hof moet verskyn, waarna daar na verwagting ‘n verhoordatum gegee sal word.

Die aantygings teen die drie mans wat teregstaan op klagte van renosterstropery is te ernstig om borg aan hulle toe te staan.

Dit is een van die bevindings wat landdros Ben­ nie Smith gemaak het toe hy Deon van Deventer (48), Niklaas van Deventer (51) en Onward Mu­ chagowa (41) se borgaansoek afgekeur het. Die drie mans het verlede Vrydag gedweë die Louis Trichardt Distrikshof verlaat en teruggekeer na hul wagtende tronkselle.

Smith het verder in sy uitspraak gesê dat die kanse te groot is vir die Van Deventers om weer renosters te gaan jag as hulle vrygelaat sou word.

Wat betref Muchagowa, het Smith gesê dat hy ‘n vlugrisiko is, ongeag dat hy sy paspoort ingehan­ dig het by die polisie, en sal probeer terugkeer na sy familie in Zimbabwe. Smith het die Staat gelyk gegee dat ‘n paspoort deesdae nie meer nodig is om tussen die twee landsgrense te beweeg nie, en dat dit maklik sal wees vir Muchagowa om sy bates en besigheid te verkoop en te vlug.

Buiten vir hierdie redes het Smith ook gesê dat die onwettige jag op renosters ‘n landswye probleem is wat aangespreek moet word. “Selfs in hierdie hof is sulke sake ‘n probleem. Hierdie hof hanteer op hierdie oomblik drie verskillende renoster verwante sake,” het Smith Vrydag gesê in sy uitspraak.

Muchagowa en die twee broers word daar­ van beskuldig dat hulle onwettig in die besit van ‘n renosterhoring was. Die drie staar ook klag­te van die onwet­ti­ ge jag van renosters in die gesig.

New completion date for N1/Matoks road works

The completion date for road works on the N1 south at Matoks has been extended yet again.

The current construction work at Matoks entails the building of two pedestrian bridges and a main vehicle bridge over the N1, as well as a 1,9km service road. A section of the N1, a distance of 1,5km to be exact, will also be upgraded after the main construction of the bridges. This construction is part of the strategy of the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) to safeguard the local community at Botlokwa.

The project was supposed to be completed on 3 February this year. In March this year, however, SANRAL indicated that the new completion date for the project was 30 April. This was due to an increased amount of earthworks, additional erosion protection, the lining of open canals and disruption by the Botlokwa community.

Despite the new 30 April completion date, SAN­ RAL was asked again why the project had not been completed yet. It would seem that the Botlokwa community was to blame once more.

“The new completion date is mid-June 2017, because of the theft of connections required for the pedestrian bridge B0208, which require a month to be manufactured,” said project manager Tshidi Lethale.

Motorists will thus have to endure the incon­ venience caused by the construction work a little longer. Those who wish to avoid this detour are

advised to take the R36 to Morobeng (Soekmekaar) and then turning onto the R81 to Polokwane. Those travelling further south should also take note of delays caused by roadworks on the R71 in Polo­ kwane. This is the road that passes the Peter Mok­ aba stadium and joins up with the N1 south again.

In the meantime, road users are reminded of SANRAL’s road closures on the N1 south of Polokwane as from 29 May. This follows the commencement of construction of new over- and underpass bridge structures. Temporary deviations are in place to avoid the bridge-construction sites.

The project is said to take about 12 months.

Klein Leo Botha het die afgelope paar maande diep in die harte gekruip van Louis Trichardt se inwoners. Sy stryd met kanker het ongek­ ende steun en bewusmaking gekweek vir ander kinders wat veg teen kanker. Hy is op 13 April verlede jaar, toe hy 14 maande oud was, met akute limfoblastiese leukemie gediagnoseer.

Deelname aan die uitstappie kos R100 per voertuig, R10 per persoon vir ‘n wildsrit en R10 per speletjie. Let daarop dat ‘n 4x4­voertuig nie nodig sal wees nie. Former Makhado MM now MM at Vhembe

The former municipal manager (MM) of the Makhado municipality, Mr Reuben Rambado, was appointed the new municipal manager of the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) with effect from 1 June.

“We felt we are now a complete structure, as we have concluded the process of recruiting the municipal manager. We were without a permanent municipal manager for almost two years and it was a worrying factor, as we recently received disapproval of the rollover of R110 million from the treasury this year,” said the executive mayor, Cllr Florence Radzilani.

are Christene sal volhard tot die einde.

God, wat die goeie werk in Sy kinders begin het, sal dit enduit voer tot die wederkoms van Jesus Christus (Fil. 1:6; 1 Kor. 1:8).

Aangespoor deur die vermaning en die bemoediging in die Skrif, sal ware Christene elke poging aanwend om elke belofte van God te verkry en so hul uitverkiesing en roeping te bevestig. Dit versterk hul verse­ kering dat daar ‘n feestelike verwelkoming op hulle wag in die ewige koninkryk van God (2 Pet. 1:11).

Die waarskuwings wat God ons in sy Woord gee om nie weg te dwaal van ons geloof in Christus nie word deur God die Heilige Gees in ons lewens gebruik sodat ons sal volhard (Heb. 2:1; 10:39).

Die toetse van ons geloof bring volharding (Jak. 1:3). Die reaksie van ware gelowiges op beproewinge lewer bewys dat hulle deel is van God se familie (Rom. 5:3-5; Heb.10:36).

Daar sal altyd ‘n stryd wees vir ware ge­ lowiges, maar so ook volharding (Ef. 6:13).

Dit is die wil van die Vader dat die Seun niemand sal verloor wat die Vader aan Hom gegee het nie (Joh. 6:39; 10:27-29).

God se genade is onherroeplik (Rom. 11:29).

Niks kan God se uitverkorenes in Christus van Sy liefde skei nie (Rom. 8:29-39).

read your article ‘Lifted suspension does not give CoAL green light’ with interest.

However, once again the article seemed biased against the mining of Makhado which isn’t too sur­ prising given that the Vhembe Mineral Resources Forum (VMRF) have opposed and appealed against everything CoAL is doing.

VMRF’s objective appears to make South Africa

an economic backwater, making it uninvestable both to domestic and foreigner investors alike.

I can only assume VMRF contacted Zoutnet to further their cause.

Like it or not, the government will allow CoAL to mine Makhado, that’s a fact. It would be benefi­ cial for stakeholders to work with CoAL, instead of trying to hinder their progress. I fail to understand why you give them the mouthpiece to pursue their objectives?

would like to assure you that the Zoutnet group of newspapers is not a mouthpiece for any institution, nor were we contacted by the Vhembe Mineral Resources Forum “to further their cause” as you state. We believe in giving everyone a voice, even if someone might not agree with what that voice is saying. As for CoAL’s mining activities in the Soutpansberg, it remains an ongoing process and an issue of great public interest. We would surely be lacking in our duty if we do not report on the process. – Editor

Rotary Anns sluit ‘n uiters bedrywige jaar op hoë noot af tige Anns Craft Day wat gehou is aan huis van Diane Bannatyne. Dit was ‘n heerlike oggend wat goed ondersteun was deur die vroue van die gemeenskap, waarvoor die Anns baie dankbaar was.

Die Anns het ook ‘n welkome bydrae ontvang k glo die jaar se tema Rotary Serving van die Rotariërs wat hulle in staat gestel het om Humanity (something we do every time we die toebroodjieprojek van Laerskool Louis Trich­ better the life of somebody) is wat elke Rotary ardt te ondersteun. Ons het ses keer, vir ‘n week Ann in Louis Trichardt uitgeleef het.

Een fondsinsamelingsprojek het behels ‘n pret­ lank, toebroodjies kon voorsien aan 42 kinders

by die skool.

Die Anns was ook aktief betrokke by die plaas­ like liefdadigheidsorganisasie Bergcare. Ons het hulle ondersteun met die herwin van artikels, tien Kersboksies wat vir bejaardes geskenk is, 30 komberse en hulp en bystand gelewer om ‘n staalhouer (container) te bekom vir Bergcare se kinderhuis wat ‘n werkswinkel nodig gehad het.

Oudergewoonte het die Rotary Anns ook weer hul sop-projek gehad, waarin daar droë sop be­ standdele en ‘n vleisie aan Laat Lente en Herfs­ akker se inwoners oorhandig is. Met die jare het ander diensorganisasies ingekoop en gehelp met die projek. ‘n Donasie is aan Maud Myburgh gemaak om voorraad vir die ambulans aan te koop.

Louis Trichardt se Rotary Anns het ook aan hulle distriksbestuurder, Nadine Daily, se Day Care projek deelgeneem. Opleidingsessies vir Day Care personeel is net buite die dorp gehou.

Die Anns het herwinbare items versamel wat ook aan die Day Care groepe uitgedeel is, nadat hulle gewys is wat hulle alles daarmee kan maak. ‘n Verdere sessie word beplan vir Augustus.

Verder het die Anns ook hulp verleen aan die Rotariërs met hul kinderdag, ‘n braai by Laat Lente en Herfsakker, ‘n senior ete, fietsry en kwartaallikse vergaderings.

Dankie aan elke Ann vir jou ondersteuning deur die jaar en elkeen se bydrae om van die Afgeneem tydens die Rotary Anns se afsluiting van hul 2016/17 jaar verlede week is, van links na jaar ‘n sukses te maak. Die Hangklip Posduifklub het voorverlede naweek deelgeneem aan hul eerste jongduifen opewedvlug van die seisoen oor ‘n afstand van 330 km vanaf Petroport.

Victory for Werda Toyota Vikings in tense T20 final

The Werda Toyota Vikings team are the new champions of the Louis Trichardt Cricket Club’s T20 league. They beat the Powafix team in a tense final on Sunday by 10 runs.

Vikings batted first, but lost an early wicket when Glen McLeod was run out with the score on 11. Kobus Barkhuizen then joined Craig Viljoen at the crease and the two of them continued where they left off in the previous match. They were in devastating form, with Kobus hitting 61 off 41 balls and Craig scoring an unbeaten 84 off 64 balls.

Warno Smit (18 from only 8 balls) helped Craig to take the score to 173/3 after 20 overs.

The only two bowlers from Powafix who took wickets were Ikram Kamboli (1/22 in four overs) and Louis van Jaarsveld (1/33 in three overs).

Powafix were not intimidated by such a big (The Vikings expressed their gratitude towards score and their two opening batsmen set off at a blistering pace. Imran Batia and Amir Bux scored the team’s sponsor, Werda Toyota, for their support 65 runs off 34 balls before Amir (19 off 13 balls) of the team this season).

Ikram Patel (13 off 12) tried to keep the momen­ tum, but wickets started falling, mostly because of some good bowling by Craig Viljoen. Leon Furstenburg also claimed two scalps and at 107/7 the big lady on the side was warming up her voice.

Ockert de Lange (25 from 15) and Mustak Patel (31 from 25) then rekindled Powafix’s hope, but the task was simply too much. Thovi Nefale claimed the last three wickets for Vikings and when the last wicket fell in the 19th over, the score stood at 163.

For Vikings, Craig Viljoen (3/19 in 4 overs) and Thovi Nefale (3/10 in 1,5 overs) were the most successful bowlers. Jandre Hancke (2/33 in 4) and Leon Furstenburg (2/20 in 4) did the rest of the damage.
