Mureri to lead the UAAC

The well-known businessman, David Mureri, best known as director of Reris Insurance Brokers, was ordained as the leader of the United African Apostolic Church (UAAC) on Sunday. The ordaining of a new leader of the church followed a week-long annual conference held at the Ha-Mavhunga headquarters of the church. It culminated in a number of ceremonies on Saturday and Sunday.

The family decided to ordain Mureri as archbishop, following the death of the leader of the church, archbishop Elias Miriri, on 23 December last year.

Actor and celebrated Limpopo comedian Tambudzeni Rasendedza, better known as “Mr Bundu”, is accused of assaulting his wife.

At a time when the continued violence against women and children keeps stealing the spotlight, a well-known actor and Tshivenda film producer finds himself facing assault allegations.

Actor and celebrated Limpopo comedian Tambudzeni Rasendedza, better known as “Mr Bundu”, made a quick appearance in court last Wednesday (18th). Rasendedza, who plays leading roles in Tshovhilingana and Bundutshikondoni films, is accused of having assaulted his live­in lover, Ms Tshifhiwa Nedididi (25). He allegedly also burned her body, using hot plastic.

Allegations are that the comedian from Lwa­ mondo Matatani outside Thohoyandou attacked Nedididi a few weeks ago, but the incident was kept a secret. It only came to the fore when she was taken to the local Tshilidzini Hospital on the advice of the police. Nedididi apparently tried to open a case at the local Thohoyandou police station and was referred to hospital.

The badly injured woman, who still had fresh wounds on her body, was allegedly not imme­ diately taken to the hospital. Only after her mother had called her and found out about her condition was she taken to the police. She was then referred to the trauma centre at Tshilidzini Hospital by the Thohoyandou police.

In an interview last week, Nedididi alleged that she had endured a lot of pain as a result of the beatings she had received from the actor during their three years of marriage. She alleged

a serious case of attempted murder; a person whose body is full of severe wounds as we speak.

that he had threatened her, should she speak about the matter or report him to the police. “I only decided to come out in the open because I wanted people to know of what I am going through.”

“I am also doing this to encourage other women going through what I am going through to speak out and not keep quiet, as they will die without get­ ting help. If it were not for my mother, I would have died in the house without people knowing,” she alleged.

Rasendedza vehemently denied the allegations made against him, saying Nedididi was just bitter because they could not agree to the terms of their marriage.

“This woman is a pathetic liar. She tried to force me into marrying her in community of property, which I refused. As a result of this, she swore that she would punish me and I have no doubt she is doing just that,” he said. He added that the woman was just trying to tarnish his good name and to destroy his career.

Rasendedza appeared in the Tho­ hoyandou Magistrate’s Court on 18 September. He was released on bail and his case was postponed to 25 October.

Tshedza shines as Face of Makhado

By Mbulaheni Ridovhona The 17-year-old Tshedza Mudau was crowned as the Face of Makhado during the third edition of the beauty pageant held at Louis Trichardt show grounds on Saturday.

Tshedza told Limpopo Mirror that she was very happy about her achievement. “I am delighted by winning this pageant and it was by God’s grace that I snatched the title.

Although the pageant was fun, the pressure was frightening because other contestants were also com­ mitted, but I managed to compose myself,” she said.

A resident of Khubvi village, Tshedza said she wanted to be an inspiration to the youth with this title and also to be the voice of the voiceless. “I want to lead by exam­ ple and be a role model for young people. I want them to be able to look at me and say if she can do it, I know I can do it.”

Tshedza, who is a learner at Thengwe Secondary School, said modelling was her passion and she loved it when everyone’s eyes were on her, because it boosted her confidence. “I started modelling last year. Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to be a model, but because of different circumstances that prevented me from becoming one, I wasn’t able to.” She said that her dream was to become Miss Uni­ verse or Miss South Africa one day.

Emily Nkoana was the first princess, Nicole Nelushi was elected second princess, and Anwani Rav­ ele won the public choice award.

Thousands gather at Shayandima for the funeral of actor Samson Ramabulana

By Elmon Tshikhudo Thousands of mourners from all corners of the country on Saturday gathered at the Shayandima AME Church to say their goodbyes to celebrated radio and television drama actor, former educator and businessman Mr Matamela Samson Ramabulana.

Ramabulana (68), who will be remembered for the many roles he played in both radio and television dramas and films such as Elelwani, passed away at a hospital in Polok­ wane. He was involved in an accident

last year June and had been in and out a of hospital until his death last week.

Among the mourners were ac­ tors from the SABC’s Muvhango soapie, where he played the role of a troublesome old man known as Vho Nenzhelele, radio drama actors, businesspeople, Muvhango chaplain Archbishop Abraham Sibiya and many church members.

He loved us all and encouraged us all to focus on edu­ cation to be better people. We will remember him for the long calls he would make while we were at tertiary institutions. We will remember his good jokes and the love he gave all of us,” she said.

The suspect, Simakahle Mzila Mcha­ keni (28), was arrested by a dedicated team of detectives last week in the Gauteng area.

Mchakeni is being linked to the mur­ der of taxi owners William Nethononda (65) of Thohoyandou Block F and Nth­ ambeleni Tshishonga (49) of Maniini.

Illegal taxi operators claim they have no other choice

The MTA members called on the authorities to clamp down on illegal operators on this route. At the time, a member of the MTA, Jealous Munyai, said that this illegal operation had been going on for some time now and the authorities needed to stop these operators. “The intervention by law enforce­ ment and the SAPS has been long overdue. We are tired of minibus taxis and cars operat­ ing between the Musina and the Beit Bridge border without permits,” said Munyai.

Munyai said that although they charged the same amount

of R10 between Musina and the border, members of the MTA also had to pay for a permit to operate on the route. He added that illegal taxi operators gave the local taxi industry a bad name, claiming that some of them even robbed unsuspecting travellers. “Today [last Thurs­ day] we decided to block the N1 to attract the attention of law enforcement and the SAPS. Yes, they came and addressed us and promised to work around the clock to stop illegal taxis,” said Munyai.

However, two sides always exist to any argument. “This is how we try and make ends meet. We know that we are operating illegally from Musina to Beit Bridge, but we have no choice since the authorities are delaying processing our route permits,” said one of the many illegal taxi operators, calling himself Joe (not his real name), after last week’s protest action.

According to him, most of the illegal operators have been waiting for operating per­ mits they applied for in 2016 already.

Joe also denied the claim that illegal taxi operators robbed unsuspecting travellers.

“Travellers are robbed by their fellow countrymen. We usually warn travellers not to get into private cars, but they continue hiking. Travellers are lured into these cars because some of the operators speak their home language. On the way they are robbed of their belongings and dumped,” said Joe. This was evident during the Limpopo Mirror’s visit to Musina on Sat­ urday, with numerous private vehicles stopping and offering lifts to travellers to the border post. The newspaper is in the process of investigating Joe’s claim about the delay in the issuing of permits to some taxi operators.­

Mbilwi learners compete in national debate contest

By Elmon Tshikhudo Three hardworking learners from Mbilwi Secondary School in Sibasa are to represent the Limpopo province in a national debate competition.

The three, Mavhungu Mavhusha, Makungo Nemanashe and Tshedza Nemavhola, all in

Grade 11 and 16 years of age, have beaten all the schools in the province to qualify for the finals to be held in Gauteng next month.

The public-speaking competition is the brainchild of the Department of Water and Sanitation. For being the top debaters in the province, the three have won themselves full tertiary scholarships.

Limpopo province debate ambassadors and their educators during the farewell function held in their honour at the 2Ten Hotel in Sibasa.

In recognition of their splendid work, wellknown Limpopo businessman Mr Aubrey Mulaudzi organised a big send-off for them.

It was held at the 2Ten Hotel in Sibasa where educators and parents were afforded the oppor­ tunity to see the learners showcase their talents before the finals.

Mulaudzi, of Aubs Motors and Diesel Centre at Tshisahulu, said he was very impressed by the girls’ achievements and felt it would not be proper if they were not motivated more before heading for the finals.

“Looking at how they performed, we are quite convinced that they will bring the prize back home. They are our good ambassadors and we have no doubt they will do well in the competition. My urge is for parents and other stakeholders to give their full support to the learners,” Mulaudzi said.

Project coordinator Ms Khathutshelo Mavhungu is very confident about the girls’ chances. “We started with preparations as early as April and there is no team that will stop them from snatching the top prize,” she said.

Fun at Mascots and Kidz Festival

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho The Mascots and Kidz Festival 2019 promises to pull thousands of fun lovers to the full-day children’s event, which will be held at the Mphephu Resort tomorrow (Saturday).

The festival is hosted by VCC Music. The organisation’s managing director, Mr Tshilidzi Bobodi, said that the event, through its diverse activities, aimed to stimulate children’s minds.

“We had held several events where we visited schools in villages, townships, crèches and preschools as a build-up to the festival,” he said. “We started doing that as early as February this year.”

The Mascots and Kidz Festival 2019’s activi­ ties will excite the children and keep them busy by involving them on the stage alongside mas­ cots, caretakers and entertainers who include, among others, Bundu, Makhadzi and Percy the Postman.

The fair also boasts athletics competitions such as a 100m race for boys and girls aged 4 to 5 and a 100m race for children of age 6 and 7.

The winners receive R500 in cash.

“The first 100 children to enter get a free school bag, while the second 100 children re­ ceive a T-shirt,” he said. “The first 100 adults to enter will get a free T-shirt, and secondary-level children stand a chance to win a tablet, while parents stand a chance to win kitchen applianc­ es.”

Bobodi said the mascot activities were both stimulating and educational to children. He said children needed to get exposed to positive fun from an early age. “This is the biggest family festival in Limpopo Province, where parents get to spend their time together watching their kids playing and enjoying all sorts of entertainment which they normally see on television,” he said.

The gates open at 08:00 and the festival runs until 17:00. Tickets are R60 (kids) and R70 (adults) and can be bought at Computicket (Shoprite, U-Save, and Checkers).

We had no choice but to speak with the Gandamipfa-Manenzhe royal family to select another suitable candidate to ascend to the throne and be their chief, instead of some lad who lacks respect. He should just be happy that after all his bad conduct we still agreed to install his blood brother and not someone from outside.”

Mohau Moshapo finds his voice on radio

The sports anchor and producer on Makhado FM, Mohau Moshapo, is a man who has worked hard through the years to develop his skills of a radio presenter and producer and this is apparent when he communicates with and entertains his listeners.

“I fell in love with radio long, long ago,” he said. “Even today I cannot be that specific about my love for the radio because I don’t know what I love about it, but it has nothing to do with being a presenter or a producer, so I just love radio.”

He stated that he believed that he had more potential than just being on air or working as a producer. “I would like to grow through the rankings in the world of radio and get to become a station manager of any radio station or, even better, own a radio station,” he said.

“I strongly believe that, with my dedication to Mohau Moshapo excellence, my pioneering spirit and motivated commit­ ment through the guidance of God, I will achieve that and more dreams.”

He stated that what he loved most about radio was the fact that he could interact with thou­ sands of people every day.

“It is fascinating that I am always interacting with peo­ ple, where they don’t get to see me but get to hear my voice,” he said. “As a presenter, I don’t have a choice but to always be hap­ py, which also helps to boost my morale

He matric­ ulated from Northern Academy Secondary in Polokwane. He later studied digital music composi­ tion and production at Boston Media House in Pretoria.

“I also did some voice­over course where I was fortunate to be trained by one of the best Voice­overs in the country, Mr Weza ‘Weza That Guy’ Mato­ mane,” he said. “In a sense, the voice­over course also prepared me for the radio.”

He currently presents Sports Exclusive on Monday to Friday between 18:00 and 19:00, and Gospel Avenue between 06:00 and 09:00 on Sundays. Mohau is available on Facebook (Homboi Simi) and Twitter (@mohaumoshapo).

Ronewa was born in 1999 and grew up in a small village called Matanda Zone 3, outside Ha-Rabali.

She loves education and is currently studying for her N6 qualification in public relations at Jeppe College. This is also where she obtained her national certificate in journalism.

“Besides my love for education, I am also passionate about radio and TV presenting,” she says. Her dream is to be a spokesperson for the country’s president one day. “I’d love to help the president change the world,” she says.

“Radio taught me to interact with people and learn more about other people’s traditions, customs and beliefs,” she says.

Ronewa encourages young learners who want to pursue a career in journalism or radio production to, “never give

up on what you’ve started. You should always make sure that you strive for the best, because the future holds a whole lot for you. Falling down or not making it at first trial does not mean that it’s the end of one’s future, it merely means that more is yet to come”.

The veteran Phalaphala FM presenter, Tshifhiwa Pat “Brapeto” Nephawe, retired last Friday after he had worked in the radio industry for 39 years.

Nephawe started his radio career at the then Radio Thohoyandou in 1980. In a career spanning nearly 40 years, he improved his skills by presenting various programmes and went on to work with pioneers such as Petros Vhangani Makwarela, Avhapfani Mudau, Mbulaheni Tshikororo, Mukulumedzi Dali, Vusani Ramabulana and Ms Thiambiwi Madzivhandila.

Radio Thohoyandou started off by broadcasting six hours per day and later it became 24 hours. During the time, specialization was unknown and Nephawe went on to present a variety of shows, including news and sports.

Even though he excelled at the various programmes, his love of jazz shone through and he started presenting a jazz show for the station from 1980. When Radio Thohoyandou ceased to exist, he joined Phalaphala FM in Polokwane.

Together with Ms Mashudu Mabata, they started the midnight show, Khoroni, which became popular with listeners and its format was copied by other SABC radio stations.

The show continues to be popular and attracts audiences across different age and language groups. He presented the Vhurereli ha Hashu show with Vho-Masindi Tshisevhe. The show focused on the Tshivenda heritage and culture.

The show contributes towards educating the younger generation about their heritage.

He has groomed a lot of presenters and continues to pass the baton to the younger generation of presenters at the station.

Phalaphala FM programme manager Ms Sharon Ravele said that the station was proud to have had the services of someone like Nephawe, an always distinguished and exemplary presenter. Ravele said that Nephawe had been an asset to the industry and had been instrumental in the success of many of the station’s projects. “He was a hard worker, dedicated to his work. He never complained when assigned a task. This is a great loss to the community and station,” she said. She wished him good luck for his retirement.

The acting head of the SABC in Limpopo, Mr Freddy Sadiki, said that the SABC was proud to have had someone like Nephawe. He described him as someone who was always there for everybody when they needed him. “He made sure that they got the best and encouraged them to set themselves goals in life. He has left a void that cannot be filled, and I will respect and miss him always,” he said. He praised Nephawe for being a hard worker and his commitment to his work. Sadiki indicated that the contribution made by Nephawe would always be remembered.

Food relief for Makonde residents Charity event Christmas arrived early for 140 families of Makonde village, north of Thohoyandou, after they received packs of food parcels worth R40 000 from the Venda Muslim Jamaat. The parcels were handed over during a function held at Makonde Primary School on Sunday.

The donation was the result of engagements between the Ravhura Royal Council, under Headman Vho­Tshedza Ravhura, and the manage­ ment committee of the Venda Muslim Jamaat.

Each food parcel contained a bag of 12,5kg maize meal, rice, sugar, tea bags, tooth­ paste, canned fish, green bar soap, washing powder, cooking oil, juice, macaroni, canned beans, baking flour,

peanut butter, soup, toilet paper and a large plastic dish to carry the groceries home.

Iman Amir Patel of the Venda Muslim Jamaat said his organisation has assisted thousands of families who were less privileged. “These are the people who support our businesses and we felt it is important for us to plough back. For the past three years, we have been distributing countless high­quality food parcels every month. When the Ravhura Royal Council approached us, we never thought twice, and we quickly jumped in to assist.”

Patel said the Venda Muslim Jamaat had assisted more than 20 drop­in centres with basic needs such as food.

“Every winter, we distribute 1 000 blankets to various fami­ lies to make sure that the less

privileged are not suffering from the cold. We have also extended our helping hand to various hospitals where we provide them with groceries and blankets. Since we formed the organization in the late nineties, we can proudly look back and satisfy ourselves that we are making a very big difference in our community.”

The chairperson of the Ravhura Royal Council, Vhakoma Vho­Abel Netha­ the, said the local community did not have enough words to thank the Venda Muslim Jamaat for their generosity.

Univen’s Dr Edwin Madala wins a-coveted NRF award Educational News Dr Ntakadzeni Edwin Madala, senior lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Venda (Univen), did the university proud by scooping up a top award during the National Research Foundation’s (NRF) award ceremony that took place on 12 September at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West.

Dr Madala was awarded a

prestigious NRF award for Ear­ ly career/Emerging Researcher of the Year. Among his research works, Dr Madala dedicated most of his time conducting an in-depth biological and chem­ ical characterisation of active, naturally occurring isomers of plant metabolites with various properties against diseases such as HIV/AIDS and cardiovascu­ lar disease.

“This award validates my am­ bitions of becoming a world-re­ nowned analytical biochemist

In accepting the award, Malala dedicated the award to all those pioneers and humble servants who had contributed significantly to the enrichment of cultural life in Limpopo.

This led to the development of advanced analytical methods to

discriminate biologically active isomers with anti-HIV proper­ ties isolated from plants.

Dr Madala’s research achievements led to the devel­ opment of two instruments.

The first instrument is used for isolation/extraction of plant-derived pharmacological compounds without the use of organic solvents. The second instrument, a UV photochemi­ cal reactor, allows for artificial amplification of metabolites through UV-induced geomet­ rical isomerisation of pho­ to-switchable drug candidates in plants.

Since joining Univen in

(continues from p12) According to Mureri, a difficult task awaited him, but he was ready and looking forward to doing his best. “I am just happy that I was able to do what God wanted me to do,” said Mureri. He promised to lead the church in the right direction and contribute to making the church grow bigger. He urged the congregants and the communities to give him the necessary support, so that the church would be able to reach its objective of helping needy people educationally, morally and with household appliances.

In his address, Dr Mathole Motshega said that the UAAC started in 1912 and continued to show strong growth throughout the years. Motshega said

that before the late Archbishop Elias Miriri had died, he had met him at the memorial service of the late Mama Winnie Madikizela Mandela. According to Motshega, Archbishop Miriri had told him that, when he died, the new leader of the church must be David Mureri.

Motshega urged the church members and the family to give their support to the new archbishop. He also advised the new archbishop to conduct himself in an exemplary manner and not mix with the wrong people. He added that the new archbishop should “not become big-headed”.

Motshega advised the people present at the meeting to refrain from bad habits, stressing that political parties should respect the leaders. He encour-

aged the new archbishop to work hard and warned him against the dangers of abusing his power.

Motshega urged the church members to give the new archbishop “complete respect as you did to his late elder brother’s son (Elias Miriri)”. He also told the new archbishop that he was installed during a time of transformation “and you have to join the train and never agree to be left behind”.

He advised the new archbishop to work hand in hand with different stakeholders for the development of his church. He said that he attended the ceremony to emphasise the strength of the relationship between politicians, Christians and traditional leaders. (continues on p14)

ARCHBISHOP OF UAAC (continues from p13) Mureri told the gathering that his installation marked a new beginning for the church followers. He also said that he was looking forward to working together with the church members. He added that the church members should expect some good things that he was planning to bring to the church members.

During Saturday’s women’s session, the UAAC’s women’s leader, Salphy Muleya, emphasized that the responsibility to build healthy communities could not be the sole responsibility of the government.

“Women should continue to be the pillars of strength in our communities,” she said. “We can achieve a lot by identifying gaps or even projects that will benefit

our people and request the assistance of government,” she said. “We are the pearl of creation and should never doubt our worth,” she said.

According to Muleya, women “continue to fight against patriarchy, gender-based violence, inequality, unemployment and poverty. We, however, equally appreciate the change we have observed over the years but are not comfortable with how things are”.

“The future of women can only be decided by the women themselves and nobody else,” said Muleya. She said that women were being regarded as a threat to men because of people who misinterpreted the Constitution. She discouraged the tendency of some women who

encouraged their daughters to bear as many children as possible, so that they could become the beneficiaries of child support grants. She also advised women to involve themselves in the development of others.

Muleya appealed to women not to spend much of their time watching movies on television but rather to dedicate their time to self-development activities. She said that women became more vulnerable to sexual abuse because they were not financially independent. “If you are financially independent, it is unlikely that you will fall into the temptation of accepting a job offer in exchange for sex,” she said. (continues from p14) Muleya said that women should have qualities like these because society needed them to stand up against abuse.

“Women are needed to bring transformation in their families and communities. Women must have integrity, perseverance, and be honest in all that they do because we need women with those characteristics to build a better nation,” she said.

She urged women to break the silence when it came to abuse. “You must know that God is your pillar of strength, and by breaking your silence, you share the pain you go through,” said Muleya.

She said that the young generation of today needed to learn about commitment and patience because most of them were not committed. “Most teenagers don’t have goals. They just

live their life like there is no tomorrow,” she concluded.

The leader of the youth in the church, Apostle Israel Litshani, said that the youth needed to be given moral education that encouraged them to stay away from committing crimes. He was a speaker during Saturday’s session that focused on the youth. “It is important for us to tell the children about the dangers of involving themselves in crime,” he said.

He warned young people against indulging in acts of crime, because they might eventually have to battle through a life with a criminal record. He stated that there was currently a problem of youths who frequented taverns and committed heinous crimes in the middle of the night when they were coming from those taverns.

“Our youths break into homes and

steal articles such as phones, TV sets, computers and music systems,” he said.

“Stop destroying your future and try to focus on your schoolwork. Don't do things that you'll regret tomorrow,” Litshani added. “Unleash your potential and work hard to achieve your entrepreneurial goals. It does not matter what level of education you have. The most important thing is to develop a positive attitude and work hard to achieve your goals. Never look down upon yourself because there is a lot of talent in you,” he said.

Litshani said that the time for sleeping was over, because the youth also had skills and knowledge that could make them successful in the business sector. He also encouraged the youth to start their own businesses, so that they can be self-reliant. (continues on next page)

Eight teams are gearing up for the weekend’s Mavunde soccer festival

By Frank Mavhungu Eight teams from Mavunde and the surrounding areas are gearing up for the Mpho Mathoho and Brian Baloyi Soccer Tournament that will be staged at the Mavunde grounds this weekend.

According to the tournament director, Mr Neo Mutshau­ ba, the teams that will battle it out for the championship are: Gondeni Big Cat, Masisi FC, Tshilamusi Super Eagles, Berea FC, Matangari High Aims, Makuya Try Again and the hosts, Mavunde Hungry Vultures.

The quarter-final matches will be played tomorrow while

the semi-final and final will be played on Sunday. The first semi-final match is scheduled to start at 09:00, the second at 11:00 while the third and last matches are scheduled to kick off at 13:00 and 15:00 respectively.

Mutshauba said that the toss for the quarter-final matches would be conducted at the Makuya Police Station this afternoon (Friday), starting at 16:00. The toss for the semi-fi­ nal matches will be conducted at the grounds tomorrow, shortly after the last quarter-fi­ nal match.

According to Mutshauba, the champions will take home a cash prize of R6 000. The

runners-up will become R4 000 richer while teams booted out of the tournament in the semi-final stage will each receive R2 500. Teams that will kiss the tournament goodbye in the quarter-final stage will each be given a consolation prize of R500.

Mutshauba reiterated that they had arranged four buses to ferry U/15 players to the tournament for free. Two buses will depart from Tswera village, while the other two will travel from Makuya Police Station.

For the second consecutive year, Muraida FC (photo) won the Sendedza annual soccer tournament at the Tshavhalovhedzi Mushaathoni and Masetoni grounds on Saturday. In the first semi-final, Sangoma Black Robbers beat Sendedza Black Uhuru 2-0 and in the other semi-final, Edison Muraida beat Masetoni Dynamite 3-0. Sangoma and Muraida drew 1-1 in the final and in the penalty shootout, Muraida won 5-3. Muraida FC received a trophy and gold medals, while Sangamo received silver medals as the runners-up.

Tshandama FC are the new King Abraham champions

The best player of the tournament, Khuliso Mafanedza of Try Together, receives his trophy from Mr Neo Mutshauba.

Last Sunday was a memorable day for Tshandama Try Together FC. They were crowned the champions of the King Abraham Pre-Season Soccer Tournament, held at the Sambandou grounds. They beat Makonde Youth FC 5-4 in the final.

Try Together were presented with a floating trophy and a cheque to the value of R8 000 during a ceremony held at the grounds shortly after the final. Makonde Youth were presented with cash prize of R4 000. Teams booted out of the tournament in the semi-final stage, Rambuda Young Fighters and Muledzi Fire Boys, were each presented with cash prize of R2 000.

The best keeper, Aubrey Murathu of Try Together, receives his trophy from Mr Neo Mutshauba.

Continentals too strong for Aces

By Frank Mavhungu Shanzha Continentals beat Lukau Hot Aces 2-0 in their losers’ final match in the Thulamela Local Football Association’s Champ of Champs tournament at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds on Sunday.

The game started at a snail’s pace as the teams were still studying each other. Realiz­ ing that their opponents were fast invading their territory, Continentals adopted their rough skills as one of their many ways to scare them off.

All that stands between Home Defenders and a trophy is the SMSA FC team.

When asked about their level of readiness for the final match, the coach of Mpheni Home Defenders, Mr Vhutshi­ lo Phuravhathu, promised to repeat history by winning the

championship and going to the national finals. “We are proud of (what we have achieved) and we want to keep the tradition going,” he said.

Phuravhathu said that their squad had all the ingredients to enable them to win the final.

“The players are highly moti­ vated after playing well in their other tournament matches the previous weeks. They know the other teams are in top form of late and they have left no stone unturned in their preparations for the matches,” he added.

Mr Musiwa Tshifaro, manag­ er of SMSA, said that they were

ready for whatever heat they might come across in the final match. He further said that all his players were razor sharp and that everything was going well with their preparations.

The first prize in the soccer challenge is R8 000, a floating trophy, gold medals and a new soccer kit. The second prize is R3 500, silver medals and a new soccer kit, while the third prize is R2 000, bronze medals and a new soccer kit.

The team that will finish in fourth place will receive R1 000 and a new soccer kit.

Will Mbombela pay for the defeat?

After suffering their first defeat at the hands of Ajax Cape Town at the Cape Town Stadium two weeks ago, what remains to be seen now is whether Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) will make a comeback and collect the maximum points at the expense of Mbombela United.

TTM will battle it out in a GladAfrica Championship League match at the Kanya­ mazane Stadium in Nelspruit tomorrow afternoon.

TTM lost 2-3 to Ajax Cape Town and fired the team’s head coach, Mr Momcilo Medic, five days later. The Tshakhu­ ma side must win the match at all cost to keep their title

hopes alive. TTM were leading the pack before their match against Ajax and they dropped to the fifth spot on the log, following the defeat.

Thembisani Nevhulamba, the TTM sharpshooter, is likely to be in the team’s starting 11 tomorrow after recovering from an ankle injury that he sustained in their game against Swallows FC at the Thohoy­ andou Stadium four weeks ago. Should he be given a chance tomorrow, Nevhulam­ ba is expected to form a good combination with Wonderboy Makhubu and Onyedikachi Ononogbu at the front.

Following the departure of Mr Livhuwani Madzuhe early last month, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC (TTM ) have appointed Mr Lucky “King Mchichwa” Nelukau as the new marketing manager of the club.

He served as one of the three assistant coaches of Mr Sello Chokoe until January this year. He is a former professional player and can be phoned on 079 561 4392 regarding any information about the club.

Four teams qualified for the semi-finals in the LTT Murunwa TVET College Soccer Challenge that will take place at the Ravele grounds tomorrow (Saturday).

In the first match of the day, Zamenkomste All Stars will play against Magau Mighty at 13:00. In the second match, Chris United and Manavhela Ablex FC will meet at 15:00.

Mr Oscar Ramantswana of Chris United expressed his joy with the team’s performance. He stated that the team had been training hard. When asked about their secret weapons, Ra­ mantswana said that all the

players were razor sharp.

According to the coach of Magau Mighty Green, Mr Sylvester Mulaudzi, every­ thing is going smoothly with their preparations. “I have prepared them mentally not to make simple mistakes,” he said. He was convinced that his team would walk away as the new champions.

The manager of Zamen­ komste All Stars, Mr Zane Mamafha, said that his players were ready for any team. According to him, his team will definitely be the new champions.

TTM fire their “pig-headed” coach Medic

By Frank Mavhungu The relationship between Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and the team’s head coach, Mr Momcilo Medic, is something of the past. Mr Medic’s contract with Vhadau Vha Damani was terminated last Friday. This follows after the Serbian mentor appeared before the club’s disciplinary committee the previous day to answer to charges of misconduct.

The case relates to an incident that took place during a league game between TTM and TS Sporting at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sat­ urday, 20 April, this year. TTM played the last five minutes of that game with one U/23 player on the field of play. That contravenes the league’s rules and regulations that dictate that National First Division teams must have at least two U/23 players on the field of play for the duration of the game.

TTM were subsequently charged with mis­ conduct and found guilty as charged. They were ordered to pay a R30 000 fine. The management of the team blamed the head coach, Mr Medic, for replacing an U/23 player with an older play­ er. During the disciplinary enquiry, Mr Medic was found guilty of gross negligence.

After revealing that the club had decided to terminate Mr Medic’s contract with immediate effect, the club’s marketing manager, Mr Lucky Nelukau, said that the current assistant coach, Mr Phuti Mohafe, would take over as the team’s caretaker coach until the new head coach was appointed.

Mr Medic joined the Tshakhuma side in Janu­ ary this year. He guided the team to the promo­ tional playoffs after TTM finished their league programme in the third position on the log.

TTM failed to make the grade in the playoffs.

A reliable source close to the club told Limpo­ po Mirror that Mr Medic became “pig-headed” after the team secured a place in the promotion­ al playoffs and started to demand a lot of things, as if the club had been promoted.

The source further revealed that when the club refused to succumb to the demands, Mr Medic continued to act like he was the managing director of the club, refusing to take instructions from the management. “That man was fast becoming a burden to the club,” said the source.

According to the source, what irritated the management most was when Mr Medic fielded several unfit players in their game against Ajax Cape Town two weeks ago. TTM lost 2-3 to Ajax.

Asked to comment about Mr Medic’s alleged childish conduct, Mr Nelukau refused to unpack everything, saying the management were happy that Mr Medic’s contract had been terminated.

During a telephone con­ versation with Mr Medic, he confirmed that his relationship with TTM was part of history and wished the club all the best in their future TTM’s caretaker coach, endeavours.

one qualification and, among other things, he has owned his own football development club in Thohoyandou and was the director of the Capricorn Foot­ ball Academy and chairperson of SAFA Vhembe Development League.

Further, he was head coach of Benny’s Sport Development and Academy from 2004 to 2015 and drafted the recruit­ ment programme and initiated the recruitment of players to the school. He won various titles and championships with Benny’s before moving on to the Greenway Sports Academy.

Their under 19s are accommo­ dated at Louis Trichardt in the club house of Black Leopards FC and they attend school at Tshikota Secondary.

In 2018 Matloga was ap­ pointed head coach for Black Leopards reserve team and in 2019 Tshikota Secondary School won the Limpopo provincial championship in the Kay Motsepe Schools Cup. Tshikota’s key players in the nationals will be Maanda Makhado, Mathidi Rolivhu­ wa, Malungudzi Rendani and Amukelani Chauke, the captain. They all play for Black Leopards and, according to

We are ready for the final battle. By winning this year’s Kay Motsepe Schools Cup, we will not only make our­ selves proud, but the communi­ ty, our school and the province as well.”

Matloga has spent a lot of time in training on concentra­ tion and focus. “I have prepared the players mentally not to make basic mistakes. Getting to the finals has made a difference to the boys in terms of motiva­ tion and confidence,” he said.

“Sport provides many positive opportunities for the commu­ nity, especially the learners.

The tournament is run under the auspices of the South African Football Association (SAFA) together with the Department of Basic Educa­ tion (DBE). In accordance to the rules of the tournament, provincial winners as well as runners-up from each province will compete in the national finals and joining Tshikota will be Ditlalemeso Secondary School representing the Capri­ corn district.

The national finals promise to be spectacular with 18 teams competing for the ultimate prize of R1million, making the Kay Motsepe Schools Cup, sponsored by the Motsepe Foundation and Sanlam, the competition with the biggest prize money in Africa at un­ der-19 level.

The runners-up will take home R600 000, third place and fourth place finishers get R500 000 and R400 000 respectively. On top of this the nine Provincial winners will each receive R100 000. The winnings are not handed over in cash but spent on legacy projects identified by the win­ ning schools.

The managing director of Chris United, Mr Chris Makananisa, said that the league had been a rocky road for them, but they managed to

reach the finals in many tour­ naments. He attributed all the accolades the team received to the discipline and dedication of the players and the way the team was being managed.

The guest speaker during the ceremony, the manag­ ing director of Benny’s Care Sports Academy, Mr David Mufamadi, applauded those who received awards. “You are the ambassadors of the team,” Mufamadi said. He empha­

Following the dismissal of their technical staff last week, Lidoda duvha will be under the guidance of the caretaker coaches, Mr Morgan Shivambu and Sam Banda, on Sunday. Shi­ vambu and Banda were on the team’s technical bench when the team played to a 2­2 draw with Stellenbosch FC at the Cape Town Stadium last Saturday.

Earlier this week, the chairman of the club, Mr David Thidiela, announced that they had appointed the former Polokwane City and Free State Stars coach, Mr Luc Eymael, as the team’s new head coach. The Belgian mentor will, however, only assume his duties next Tuesday, 1 October.

Just like Black Leopards, Bloemfontein Celtic failed to collect the maximum points last week­ end. They played to a goalless draw with Chippa United at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloem­ fontein on Saturday.
