Mr Nnditsheni Josias Ramuhashi.

Ramuhashi, was described as a very humble man who was dedicated to his farming, his bakery and the community.

Ramuhashi (79) of Ha-Nesengani Tshifhefhe in the Vuwani area passed on last week after a long illness.

He was buried on Saturday at the local cemetery.

A memorial service in his honour was held on Friday at his home.

Chief Nemulalo Ramukhuba, an executive member of the Vhembe Contralesa, paid a glowing tribute to Ramuhashi, saying he was a tower over the rest regarding issues of community development.

Ramuhashi respected them,

even though they were younger than him, he added.

He was also described as a workaholic “who made mother earth his friend as a farmer”. He also had a bakery in the village, which supplied the village.

Ramukhuba urged others to emulate him and to follow in his footsteps and to continue where he left off in assisting the community.

Ramuhashi was born at Mashau village and moved to Thomo village and later relocated to Ha-Nesengani Tshifhefhe in 1968.

He is survived by four of his seven wives, two sisters, a brother, 34 of his 45 children and many grandchildren.

The Tshikwani community, in ward 23 under Makhado, has a challenge of water shortages. The imbizo will be held at Crown of Victory Christian Church. Community members from the surrounding villages are welcome to attend.

The five-year-old Ritlhavile Novela, who died after allegedly drinking traditional mageu at a crèche near Malamulele, was buried among huge public interest at Gumbani on Saturday.

The mageu was allegedly prepared during a passing-out parade of young girls who were at an initiation school. About 29 community members in Gumbani village were hospitalized after the incident when they fell ill.

The principal of Nyeleti Crèche, Ms Daphne Nkomondo of Gumbani village near Phaphazela, described little Ritlhavile as a quiet little girl who always obediently took orders from her teachers. “She left us unexpectedly, and it will be difficult for her friends to forget her smiling face,” said Nkomondo.

Magezi Baloyi, said that he was shocked to learn about the incident and that it must be fully investigated. He added that he did not want to see or hear of incidents like that in his village and ordered everyone to chase away anybody found guilty of killing other innocent people.

Mr Mike Masuluke of Living Memories Funeral Services said that after listening to the radio and hearing the sad news about the young child who had died after drinking traditional mageu in Gumbani, he decided to help the family to bury her. He sponsored a coffin, a tombstone and food for the funeral. Masuluke, whose funeral service works for communities in Malamulele, Giyani and Tzaneen, said they wanted to

Mr Bonani Nyabane from De Beers Venetia Mine told students that the high failure rate at schools was often caused by a lack of proper career guidance. “We want pupils to get information and advice on a spectrum of opportunities for higher learning and skills development to help them make their career choices.”

During the event, pupils were provided with information on universities, colleges, course programmes, financial aid, bursary schemes, and training opportunities.

“We found that many pupils do not have access to information on careers. That is why many of them do not know which career they should follow [after] completing matric,” Nyabane said. “Your future

belongs to you, and it is up to you how you build and shape it. It is through hard work and dedication that you can move higher and higher.”

Mr Bonginkosi Dladlama from Vhembe FET said education was the most powerful weapon to defeat poverty and unemployment hindering rural communities. “It is through hard work and dedication that you can move higher and higher,” said Dladlama.

“I’m happy to announce that this academic year, over 1.6 million learners in Limpopo are benefiting from the policy. We will continue to improve on these figures for as long as the need remains. In the same spirit, we will continue to provide scholar transport to all the learners who reside more than five kilometres from the nearest school,” he said.

Mathabatha said that his government would continue to monitor the school nutrition programme to ensure that learners who were supposed to benefit from the programme, did indeed benefit.

“We will also be working hard to improve the quality of education in our special schools. I am pleased to say that access to education for learners with special needs is on the continuous increase and our system is currently accommodating over 8 400 learners with special needs,” he added.

National honour motivates veteran boxing trainer to do even better

Baloyi (77) says he is still excited about the honour in recognition of the commitment he has put into developing boxers from his home village of Malamulele over the past 45 years. He is a former police officer who worked in different parts of the country, including Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Sekhukhune and the former Gazankulu Government when it started in 1969.

He has turned several young boys into national and international boxers in his makeshift gym, based at his home. Some of the more famous boxers he trained include his son, Cassius Baloyi, and Isaac Hlatswayo.

The executive chairperson for the Kranspoort Presbytery, Elder NJ Matakanye, said that they were pleased by the massive turnup of youths and supporting parents who had all come to reap the fruits of the Word of God. “We had a very successful youth conference; we consisted of seven congregations from our region,” he said. “At least 200 youths attended the conference as planned. We thank all people who took part in organising and arranging this conference. We are grateful for the Kranspoort Presbytery who allowed this event to take place in their place at the last minute. We thank Almighty God for his divine intervention in the preparations.”

The youths’ activities included, among others, singing, marching and poetry reciting, which spanned three days.

The conference formed the basis of an effective community ministry and

community building. Youths were encouraged to focus on their studies as a way of preparing for a good future.

After the conference, all youths were expected to get back to their villages, townships and towns and start making a difference by contributing to the development of those places and to make positive contributions in their communities.

The chairperson of the Christ Youth Ministry, Thendo Tshilate, said that the annual conference brought together youths from seven congregations to worship with the aim of uniting the youth and reviving their souls. “We had invited guests who motivated the youths on matters of career development,” Thendo said.

The invited guest, Mr Peter Mbelengwa, gave a talk on the fourth industrial revolution where he highlighted the fact that youths must educate themselves, so that they could have proper and relevant skills to secure them a better future.

not getting acceptance in their study of choice or because they are still trying to decide on the career they want to follow,” she added.

She was speaking during the career exhibition at Univen on Monday. “We really need to make a concerted effort as a community to pull our strides to ensure that our learners are properly guided,” she said.

Without the engagement of all stakeholders, parents, teachers, professionals as well as the government, she said, job opportunities would remain a wish and dream that would be difficult to achieve. “In tandem with the efforts and funding that government and parents put into these learners’ education, we need to steer our

We need to work with the teachers of these learners, so that, throughout their schooling period, learners are made aware in their schools of possible fields of study and careers they can follow and are guided properly by their teachers to make suitable and informed choices,” she said.

Makuya and members of the trust visited Chief Livhuwani Matsila in the Matsila area on Saturday on a fact-finding mission.

The Matsila Development Trust has created more than 500 jobs for locals. Speaking during the visit, Thovhele Makuya said they were trying to forge partnerships with leaders who were striving to better the lives of their communities and that he could not have made a better choice than Matsila. “We are from a place where unemployment is rife, and we felt that we should go all out and seek ways to turn the situation around.

We heard of what is happening here and we are very motivated and encouraged by what we saw here.”

He added that, besides the eco-tourism project they were working on, they were looking at other options, such as agriculture, that could create many jobs. “We are not doing it for ourselves, but for our people. We are happy that, with the assistance we are getting from the government and Chief Matsila, there will be light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

Chief Matsila, who took the guests around the different projects in his area, said traditional leaders should always be at the forefront of the struggle against unemployment and poverty. “As a trust we have taken it upon ourselves to assist wherever possible, and we are reaching out to many traditional leaders to conduct workshops free of charge.”

He added that Thovhele Makuya “has the same developmental agenda and we are happy that our partnership is already bearing fruits, with many of his people going to gain meaningful employment”.

The Pretoria-based Dee Tempia, born Ndiadivha Sikhweni at Makungwi village in Nzhelele, is in the Top 25 of the Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa finalists.

Phalaphala FM, the media partners, was represented by several presenters, producers and the marketing officer.

To participate, artists were advised to fill in a two-page form that is available at www.tshima. org.za and submit it to Spar Mvusuludzo in Thohoyandou, Spar Biaba and Makhado Information Centre.

Artists who are in Gauteng can submit the forms at Tshima’s offices in Midrand. Forms can be submitted from 22 July to 22 August.

In order to qualify, albums must have been released between 30 June 2018 and 30 June 2019 Winning artists in all 14 categories will receive a trophy and R30 000, while the prize for the song of the year is R50 000.

Tman Gavini back on the stage! Linnda pursues perfection

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho A kwaito superstar who made national media headlines with his debut album Phezu kwe’board in 2006, Tman Gavini, is back with a new album that already promises to be a blockbuster.

His latest album, Ri khou funana (We are in love) comprises eight tracks, which are Pfarelo, Litshani u ambesa, Zwofhela, Ndi ngamula, Ri khou funana, Tarelwa, Hu khou difha, and Mudzimu nthuse. “This is an album filled with songs that appeal to all ages. Even though it boasts mostly Tshivenda lyrics, it is still relevant to all people, even those who know less of the idiom of this language. I am of the belief that music knows no boundaries.”

Tman Gavini believes that his new album will reach more people as he has kept to his original style but with new flair, so that his new songs do not sound like the reshaping of old material. “The songs are new, and I am happy that I have come this far as a singer whose music speaks to both young and old,” he said. “Music is a way of life and people who buy our music know that.”

He worked with a strong team of artists who include, among others, Percy the Postman, MizoPhyll, Drenko, Dj Nipro,Tshepo Manyisa, Bellafonte, Komrate Lee, DJ Davic, 2minutes v Dupa, and Irene Mawela. “Working with a wide range of artists gives one’s projects a unique flavour that, at the same time, is also familiar to the listeners’ ears,” he said. “I have

Phalaphala FM has invited 10 more of its listeners to join the station on its tour to Vietnam.

According to the marketing manager, Ms Rudzani Mashamba, the station started with the listeners’ annual tour in 1991 as a way of demonstrating the buying potential of the station’s audience. The station also wanted to establish an emotional bond with its listeners, she said.

“Potential tourists are presented with alternative destinations and decide on the place, based on the price of the trip and interest shown by the audience. The listeners pay for the trip, accommodation and meals,” she said.

Mashamba added that the places visited since 1991 include the Portuguese Islands, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey, Argentina, Brazil, Greece, Thailand, Spain and France.

“No doubt, learning from the wonderful country of Vietnam will contribute to the advancement of the entrepreneurial outlook of our people and this will flow into advancing innovation among our people. Most people had undertaken individual or group tours before. They were, however, in unison in confirming that the experience they got from Phalaphala FM was better than ever.”

She said that Phalaphala FM managed to give the listeners an experience of the personal feel of the brand and engaged with the listeners on a personal basis and building long-term relationships.

The cost of the trip is R38 850. The application forms are available at the SABC’s studios in Polokwane, Thohoyandou, Gauteng and at the Louis Trichardt Information Centre.

The listeners will arrive in Saigon on 21 September and, a guide will welcome them at the airport and take them to the hotel. They will then spend a day away from the busy city of Saigon and drive to the Ben Tre Province, visit the Vính Tràng pagoda, an ancient southern architectural gem.

On arrival at the Hung Vuong Pier, visitors will board a private boat for a glimpse of the delta scenery while enjoying coconut juice.

They will experience the unique lifestyle of the Mekong Delta and visit fruit orchards, coconut groves, brick workshops and homemade products such as coconut candies, rice cakes, handcrafts, etc.

After a short walk to visit a local family to learn how they make sedge mats and enjoy tea and tropical fruits, they will take a “XeLoi”, a kind of motorized rickshaw, or visitors can hop onto a bicycle and peddle through picturesque villages.

They will then stop at a riverside restaurant for a delicious and filling lunch, then board a sampan for a relaxing trip along narrow canals. The boat will be waiting for at the pier nearby to bring the group back to Ben Tre, where a vehicle will take them to the airport for the flight to Danang.

New buildings for the Limpopo Traffic College

By Ndivhuwo Musetha The community of Vhembe, especially those in the Mutale area, will be excited that the Limpopo Traffic College will not be moved away from Tshilamba to Polokwane.

During our visit to the school premises last week, Limpopo Mirror has witnessed construction work under way at the college’s base, the former Manenu battalion facility.

The construction work, which started in April this year, is part of the six blocks of student residences. The first block, to the value of R20 million, will accommodate 60 traffic students. The block is expected to be complete at the end of April next year.

The construction of the students’ residence block will end the speculation that has been going around about the imminent shifting of the training centre from Tshilamba to Polokwane as has been happening in the previous year. The fears, which were also published in this newspaper, were also related to the then MEC for Transport, Makoma Makgoropetje by Thovhele Vho-Bvudzitshena Nethengwe.

During a passing-out parade of traffic officials at the centre early this year, Nethengwe appealed to the MEC not to move away the college as was being speculated.

Makgoropetje then assured Nethengwe and the gathering that the facility would not be

moved away. The MEC also said that “R20 million will be spent in the coming financial year to refurbish the buildings that were built by the former Venda government when it was still called Manenu Battalion”.

He emphasised that the first building to be refurbished would be students’ residences. Another R10 million will be spent on the purchasing of high-powered vehicles that will be used exclusively by traffic officers.

The building of students’ residences is expected to be take five more years, and will eventually accommodate 360 people, male and female.

According to the plan, the new building will include parking, a kitchen, an admin block, a student education centre, an auditorium and a gymnasium. Some of the old buildings will be destroyed while some will remain.

The current accommodation can accommodate 250 students.

The multi-storey building is expected to be the first of its kind in the Mutale area. Many of the local people will be excited about this project, which will add value to the already developing area with some of the modern houses built on stands situated next to Thengwe Secondary School.

A new shopping centre next to the training centre and a branch of the Vhembe FET College at the building of the old Thengwe Secondary School will also be erected.

Construction is under way at Limpopo Traffic College.

Tshiawelo Secondary’s pupils bubble with hope and optimism

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho Pupils at Tshiawelo Secondary School in Vleifontein had promised the school’s patrons, educators and parents to work harder and ensure that they all perform well in this academic year.

This follows the events where the Tshiawelo Patrons arranged and organised a career exhibition and motivational session for the pupils last Friday.

Tshiawelo Patrons is a structure that aims to aid and assist the pupils with their school development and progress to ensure that the pupils reach their academic pinnacle. The structure comprises former pupils of Tshiawelo Secondary School.

“The annual school visit is aimed at giving support and motivation to learners,” said one of the patrons, Rendani Ndou. “If we do not come together and help these children, no one else will do so.”

The representatives of Career Development Services helped pupils in lower grades to understand about choosing streams and career choices. They also advised Grade 12s about university applications and career choices.

Special presentations were also given by two former Tshiawelo Secondary School principals, Mr Khorommbi Madzhie and Dr Grace Neluvhola. “They addressed the Grade 12 pupils and gave them tips on how to study harder in order to perform well,” Ndou said. “They were encouraged to be ready for the final examination.

A representative of the pupils, Khosi Lerato (18), said that they appreciated the kind of information

and motivation the patrons had shared with them and added that it would all be useful as they prepared for the third term and end-of-year examinations.

110-year-old gogo laid to rest at Tshimbupfe

By Kaizer Nengovhela Mourners from around the province and surrounding areas met at the Sigidi family residence on Saturday to pay their last respects to gogo Nyamukamadi Sigidi (110).

She died on 5 of July after a long illness at her home at Tshimbupfe, Mavhulani, and was buried at the same village on Saturday.

Mourners described her as a woman of humour, respectful, friendly, very humble and a dedicated community builder.

Her son, Mr Mberegeni Sigidi, said that his mother was an angel who had brought up her children with love and affection. “We wipe our tears, because we know that she served the Lord every minute of her

life,” he added.

Vhamusanda Vho-Nkhetheni Nemavhulani described her as a pioneer, a born leader and a woman of vision. He said the whole community gathered with heavy hearts because she had been influential in the area. The family and community were in great pain after losing a respected beloved.

He urged all to follow the good example left by Sigidi. “Her passing will undoubtedly leave a void too difficult to fill, not only in the family, but also in our leadership structures,” he said. Nemavhulani said that although the family, friends and community at large accepted what had happened, it would be difficult to forget that this death had robbed the community of an energetic leader who had been full of zeal and courage.

She stated that she was pleased when the minister emphasised the department’s move to partner with the private sector and community-based organisations to render services to the communities. “Most of the value-adding organisations or projects fade due to a lack of resources or funding,” Nomsa said.

“If the department is willing to come forward to enter into partnership with us, then this is a giant step forward.”

The world continues to open up with great promises of light, motivation and encouragement for a cancer activist, Nomsa Tshingowe. She has just come back from the SA Parliament in Cape Town where she attended the budget address sitting on 9 July.

As the founding director of the non-profit-organisation Cancer 0 Thirty 5 Project, Nomsa was among the many youths across the country who were invited by the Deputy Minister of Women, Youths and Persons Living with disabilities, Prof Hlengiwe Mkhize.

“I was part of the esteemed guests at Parliament, because the department wanted to celebrate youths who are contributing positively in their communities,” Nomsa said. “Women, the youth and persons living with disabilities were all represented. Most importantly, our role was to observe the budget speech debate and what the department had to offer, so that all our project programmes would also be informed of the departmental services.”

She stated that she had not thought that her work was being noticed even at national level. This kind of recognition reminded her that she was on the right track with her organisation.

“It taught me that one can do or be anything they want as long as they do not stop believing,” she said. “When it is meant to be, it will be. You don’t have to be anyone else, remain authentic.”

Makonde FC beat Potholes 1-0

Makonde FC used their home-ground advantage to beat Tshatshingo Potholes 0-1 in their Thulamela Local Football Association League match at the Raluvhimba Secondary School grounds on Saturday.

The game was one of two halves as Makonde dictated terms for the better part of the first half, while the visitors from Tshidzivhe made a comeback in the last stanza.

The first half was characterized by wasted scoring opportunities. Although Makonde were all over the visitors, Potholes managed to keep a clean sheet until the end of the first half.

Makonde threatened to score for the first time in the 18th minute. Their centre forward, Wavhudi Ndou, receiving a neat pass from Mpho Ravhutsi inside the box. Ndou did the unexpected when he unleashed aimlessly. The ball went far wide, much to the fans’ disappointment.

Simon Maluleke’s close-range half volley missed the target by inches a few minutes later.

Potholes effected two changes to their starting line-up early in the last half. They replaced Mulweli Netshidzivhe and Ipfi Ratshilumela with Unarine Manala and Unarine Tshivhase respectively. The move was not good enough to stop the hosts from scoring their all-important goal.

Mammoth victory for Happy Boys

By Frank Mavhungu Muungamunwe Happy Boys collected three points from the two Thulamela Local Football Association League matches they played over the past weekend.

They lost 0-1 to Manamani City at the Manamani grounds on Saturday. They rectified their mistakes and walloped All Bullets FC 8-1 at the Maungani grounds the following day.

Although they were playing in front of their home crowd on Sunday, Bullets did not show any appetite for goals for the duration of the game. They looked relaxed, even at the time when the visitors from Khwekhwe village were three goals up.

Happy Boys took the lead in the sixth minute when Hazewell Mbombi blasted in a rocket from inside the box.

Happy Boys took 18 minutes to increase the tally. Their left winger, Khathutshelo Sibubuni, beat the keeper with a long-range ground cutter, following a neat pass from Hazewell Mbombi.

Happy Boys were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute after Khathu Mabasa handled the ball within the box. Mbombi scored from the white spot to bring the half-time score to 3-0.

The referee, Mr Ntsieni Muuge, flashed three yellow cards within a short space of time.

Munangiwa Mutshidzi and Masakona Mudau, both of Bullets, and Karabo Matloga of Happy Boys found themselves on the wrong side of the football laws and Muuge did not hesitate to reprimand them with cards.

Bullets were also awarded a penalty after the Boys’ keeper tackled Khathu Mabasa from behind within the box in the 59th minute. The

Bullets’ solitary goal seemed to have been an insult to the Happy Boys’ strikers.

They then scored three beautiful goals within the space of 10 minutes. Wanga Mashige, Ndivhuwo Mawahsane and Riaurenda Mudau found the net in the 64th, 68th and 70th minute respectively. Bullets abandoned their positions and moved forward in search of goals. That gave Happy Boys a chance to score their last two goals via Talifhani Nesindande and Thabelo Nengwekhulu in the dying minutes of the game.

Thidiela further stated that the celebrations would start on Saturday, 27 July. Saturday’s programme is scheduled to commence with a youth service at 10:00. A choir competition will follow later in the afternoon. Twenty-one church choirs from around Vhembe are expected to battle it out in the competition.

Choirs that are lined up for the competition are: Munzhedzi and Tshamutilikwa UAAC, Ravele Funanani UAAC, Khomele UAAC, Makwarani Inzion Choir, Rivhaapostola UAAC, Tshidimbini BAAC in Sabbath, Piana dza Duthuni UAAC, Khathutshelo APCC, Tshidimbini UAAC, Univen UAAC, UAAC National Male Choir, Vhana vha Mbavhalelo, Tshiozwi UAAC, Ramatsekisa and Munzhedzi Gundo Zion Apostolic, Mpheni UAAC, Hana Maanda Sathane Youth Choir, Hamutsha UAAC, Emmanuel Church choir, Free Zion Apostolic, Mulafhi na Vhaapostola choir and DK UAAC choir.

The day’s programme will be followed by a night vigil (mulindelo). According to Thidiela, the purpose of the night vigil, commonly known as an all-night prayer, is to give thanks to God after the team narrowly survived the relegation axe last season.

With only two matches remaining before the end of the current season, the teams affiliated to the Limpopo Stream of the Sasol Women’s League will go about their business as usual this weekend.

Seven matches will be played at various venues throughout the province tomorrow afternoon, while only one will be played on Sunday.

After losing 0-3 to Maindis Ladies at the Ladanna grounds in Polokwane last Saturday, Shayandima Morning Stars are gearing up for a Vhembe derby against Tshandama Young Stars at the Shayandima School grounds tomorrow. Morning Stars must win the match at all cost in order to keep their title hopes alive.

The Stars from Shayandima were tied on 22 points with Maindis before last Saturday’s defeat against the log leaders, Maindis Ladies. The fact that Tshandama Young Stars are still to win a league match to date is reason enough for Morning Stars to believe that they will collect the maximum points without putting in much effort tomorrow.

Tshandama are lying at the bottom of the log with one point in hand. Young Stars lost 0-5 to Morning Stars in their first-round league match at the Tshandama grounds about four months ago.

Another Vhembe derby between Samba Girls and Chippas United Ladies will be played at the Tshirenzheni School grounds.

Chippas must keep an eye on the Girls’ forwards, Madembe Tshikumbu, Murembiwa Mugivhi and Dolly Mnisi, or else their title hopes will be shattered. On the other hand, the Chippas’ playmakers, Maggie Mukhuwana and Edzani Ramaano, will cause havoc for the Girls’ defence if they are not tightly marked.

Real Mighty Girls will host Maindis Ladies at the Mabalane grounds outside Giyani. The other fixtures are: Sisters FC vs Botlokwa Ladies, Moria Sweepers vs Mandebele Happy Fighters, Re Tla Dira vs Kanatla Ladies, Seven Stars vs University of Limpopo and Skimzozo vs Fifty Stars Ladies.
