The police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said he condemned violence and the carrying of sharp objects at schools.

According to him, a school is a place to learn and not to carry weapons. “We call upon parents and guardians to join hands with the police and educators, to ensure that schools remain a safe environment at all times,” said Mojapelo. The 21-year-old suspect, Ishmael Ndou, has since been arrested and appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He has been charged with attempted murder and was denied bail. The case was postponed to 5 March for a formal bail application.

Several families reportedly lost groceries, furniture and other belongings. Motorists who are staying in mountainous areas were forced to park their vehicles near the main tarred road, because they were unable to use the damaged and slippery roads.

One of the residents from Mukununde in the Nzhelele area, Mr Israel Mamatho, said they wanted the government to build them a proper bridge and to upgrade the rainwater-drainage system in the area. “It rained heavily, and our houses were flooded, our furniture was damaged. We told the municipality that the problem is the lack of a proper bridge. We don’t sleep at night when it is raining like this; we want some help. We were allocated these residential sites by the municipality. Let them construct a proper road, because we know that all this havoc is caused by the small bridge that is not big enough to carry high volumes of rainwater.”

The spokesperson of the Vhembe District Municipality, Mr Matodzi Ralushai, said the damage caused by heavy rains in the district had not yet reached a point where the district disaster unit could get involved. Ralushai said that the affected communities were now forced to use alternative roads to get to work or school and run everyday errands. “Most of the bridges have structural problems, while others are under water,” he said.

“We have sent out a disaster team and we are visiting the different areas that have been affected by the floods. We are pleading with parents to warn their children not to swim in the dams or play near the rivers, because there are a lot of crocodiles,” said Ralushai.

Ralushai told Limpopo Mirror that some of the families had been left homeless after their mud huts had collapsed, but at that stage he had not received any reports of people injured. He warned residents living close to rivers and streams to evacuate to a safer place or higher spot when the water levels rose. “When you cross a flowing river where the water reaches above your ankles, turn back and use alternative routes. Never try to walk, swim or drive in swift-flowing water as it can sweep you off your feet. Do not drive over a low-water bridge if the water is flowing strongly across it,” he said.

Young boy drowns in barrow-pit left open by contractor

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho The family of a six-year-old boy, Rendzo Valoyi, are traumatised and still battling to get answers from the Collins Chabane Municipality after their son had drowned in a barrow-pit at N’wamatatani village.

Rendzo Valoyi drowned in the barrow-pit left by a contractor.

Several barrow-pits were left wide open and unrehabilitated by a construction company that was hired to do the N’wamatatani ring road a year ago, which remains incomplete.

Rendzo and other two children found themselves playing around the barrow-pits where the children are normally attracted by an excavator abandoned by the constructor.

On that day, about two weeks ago, the three children had allegedly started swimming in one of the barrow-pits. Two of them, Rendzo included, started to experience difficulties in the dirty water. The third one, who is eight years of age and happens to be Rendzo’s cousin, rushed home to alert the elders about the situation at the barrow-pits.

“When family members and residents arrived there, they got into the water and searched for the two children,” said family spokesperson, Mr Lucky Mabasa. “Unfortunately, Rendzo had already lost his battle against the water that choked him.

The other one was placed on the side of the water and he had a lot of

water flowing out of his ears.”

At a later stage, the family informed the municipality about the tragedy in the hope that it would take full responsibility. They are of the view that the municipality is to blame, since it had failed to instruct the construction company to rehabilitate the place upon completion of the ring road project.

“Even though the mayor, Cllr Moses Maluleke, had come to the child’s memorial service, the muni­ cipality has so far failed to cooperate or directly address the matter,” he said.

“The family is both distraught and disappointed with the fact that the municipality is taking this matter lightly. There are incessant rains now as we speak, so do we have to lose more kids?”

Neither of the other two children had received any form of counselling up to this stage. The barrow-pits are situated about 100 metres away from people’s homes, and they are easily accessible to children while they continue to pose a danger to their lives. “The saddest part is that the municipality

He had reportedly knocked down two Vhembe TVET College students at Makwarela next to the college along the Tshikweta public road on 6 February. The incident took place at around 18:00. The students were allegedly walking alongside the road when they were knocked down by a speeding car and the driver fled the scene afterwards.

“The police and the medical emergency services were summoned immediately after the accident and they reacted swiftly,” said the provincial police’s spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe. “The two victims were found lying with serious injuries. They were both certified dead by the paramedics at the scene.”

Youth in the Makhado area continue to benefit from art programmes hosted and presented by the Charismatic Rhythms in Tshikota outside Louis Trichardt.

The programme is termed the Art in Schools Project 2019/20, which is a specialised project where arts development, arts preservation and promotion, and capacity building are brought about for children and youths with a keen interest to develop in the arts.

“We made a call for auditions, which took place at Tshikota Secondary School last Monday (10th),” said the project’s managing director, Ms Kagiso Kekana.

“We selected 60 learners across the age phases, which are junior beginners (9 to12 years), intermediate beginners (13 to 16 years), and senior beginners (17 to 25 years).”

She said during an interview with a local radio station, that the fixed scanner at the border was a much more reliable scanner as it was not affected by outside temperatures, unlike the mobile scanners. Currently officials at the border post are using mobile scanners.

At Beitbridge she met several Zimbabweans, some of them who were not aware of the disease and some who said that the disease was cured by eating garlic.

Ramathuba interacted with entrepreneurs, truck drivers and travellers and at the Musina China Mall she met shop managers and issued them with pamphlets about the virus.

R69 million for the Vuvha road project

Munyai said the initiative was part of the government’s way of providing jobs. “We will do our best to make sure that all South Africans enjoy the fruit of our hard-earned freedom.” He explained that the scope of the work includes the upgrading of gravel roads to tarred roads.

The second phase of the project is a stretch of six kilometres of road, which will include stormwater drainage pipes. “The duration of

the project is 22 months,” he said.

According to him, the construction phase, which started last week, will create about 60 jobs.

“This is a true reflection of what service delivery is all about. We will continue to make sure that our people are being taken care of because they deserve it.”

He explained that stormwater drainage is at the core of the project as it will then make the road durable, even in times of heavy rains.

The project contractor is the manager of Taima Civils, Mr Tshililo Maliage. He promised to deliver quality work.

Traditional council to rule on land dispute

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho A 27-year-old resident of Mbhokota village, Manase Matamela, is disgruntled because a neighbour is claiming a large portion of his stand.

According to Matamela, the land (which can be halved into two or more stands) had all along belonged to his late father with one fence and a stand number, as is normally the case in the rural areas. However, a neighbour, Johannes Dlomu (Chabalala), had erected a market stall on one the side of the stand, along the gravel main road, despite the old man’s refusal for him to do so.

“That was many years ago. I was still very young, but I remember that my father and Chabalala had engaged in a bitter war of words, because he had even started selling alcohol and his clients would throw their bottles and cans over the fence into our yard,” Manase said.

He added that at one stage his father had reported the matter to the police and a case was heard in the Hlanganani Magistrate’s Court held in Waterval, and the neighbour was instructed to stop interfering with the old man’s life.

Now the case is on again at the Nkhensani Traditional Council between

Chabalala and Manase, and the Council is yet to make a final ruling on who the rightful owner of the stand is.

Manase feels that Chabalala is taking advantage of the fact that his father had passed away, and now Chabalala would like to misuse the office of the Council to swindle the portion of his land out of his name.

“If it is true that the stand has belonged to him since 1998, as he claims, why did he wait for over 24 years while we had fenced it and were staying on it?” he said. “Chabalala will have to answer to that before the Council; he mustn’t try and take us for a ride.

Meanwhile, Chabalala said that the space in contention had been empty and wild when he had made an application to the Council in 1998 to use it. He said that he was subsequently granted a permission-to-occupy (PTO) letter.

“After I was given the PTO, old Matamela saw me and the Council official on that piece of land and he knew from that that I was given it, so within a few days he had fenced it off together with his original stand to make it one big yard,” Chabalala said. “When I approached the old man, he was so fierce that even my mother feared for my life and advised me to stay out of the

matter. She said I would get killed, and I took her word for it and suspended the stand issue.”

Chabalala had apparently continued to run his fruit market and spaza shop right along the old man’s fence.

“The old man [Matamela] lodged a complaint at the magistrate’s court that I had made a spaza shop in the space where he was running his car wash, but the court official wrote a letter saying that the space belonged to me,” Chabalala said.

When Matamela passed away in 2016, Chabalala felt that it was the right time to claim his stand back.

“Even the council knows that the stand belongs to me,” he said.

Manase, however, is adamant that the stand does not belong to Chabalala.

He added that if, by any means, the council granted the stand to Chabalala, he would have to take the matter up with the Department of Cooperative Governance and the Department of Traditional Affairs.

The council’s chairperson, Mr James Mgavini, confirmed that the case between Manase and Chabalala would resume in the Nkhensani Traditional Council’s court on Tuesday next week.

“We are working towards finding all evidence, so that we finally arrive at a fair and satisfactory ruling in this case,” he said.

Sad farewell to dedicated community worker

By David Mokobi Hundreds of people gathered at Mshongoville, Musina, to pay their last respects to Aamina Violet Milanzi (37), who passed away last Monday.

She was buried according to her clan’s tradition last Wednesday at Musina. She was a political activist and a community builder who was involved in a number of projects that were aimed at developing the people of Musina and beyond. She was described by many as a loving person with a smile that could brighten even the darkest room.

Violet was born and bred in Musina and matriculated at Eric Louw High School in the year 2000. She became a LoveLife Ground breaker where she worked as Disaster Risk

Officer responsible for risk reduction, counselling, rehabilitation and resource mobilization.

In 2005, after her four-year stint at LoveLife, she was employed by the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) as a community development worker (CDW), where she worked until her death.

As CDW she was responsible for, among other things, ensuring that the poor and vulnerable gained access to government services, helping people with different challenges and helping local organizations to build partnerships with the government. She would also assist with consultations, research and spreading government information to people. She performed this function effortlessly and with distinction.

She became a member of the South African Youth Council and she was tasked to deal with disaster risk reduction. Violet became part of the first board of directors at the initial stages of the formation of Musina Community Radio.

After the radio station obtained its broadcast license, Violet was moved to management and she became the first manager for administration of the radio station.

Politically, Violet was elected to serve in the regional executive committee (REC) of the ANC in Vhembe Region between 2006 and 2009. In 2009, she was elected to service young people in the Vhembe region as deputy chairperson the ANC Youth League. Violet worked meticulously in all positions of responsibility assigned to her. Violet understood to the bitter end that

she was in the struggle to serve the community and not for self-enrichment - hence her strong distaste for corruption.

Violet was an ardent reader and after her matric, she obtained the following qualifications: National Certificate in Community Development Work with the University of Venda, Diploma in Public Administration with Oxbridge Academy, Programme in Human Resource Management (NQF 6), a certificate in Intermediate End User Computing with Mass Computer Training and FET College, a Diploma in Disaster Risk Management with Southern Business School and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Disaster Risk Management.

She is survived by her brother and her daughter, Thandeka.

SAPS commended for catching rapist

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho Theophilus Baloyi (27) was slapped with a 40-years jail term on two counts of rape when he appeared in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court last week.

A resident at Ribungwani village near Giyani, the accused had raped a 14-year-old girl in 2014 and another girl (17) in 2016.

These incidents were reported to the police and the cases were then assigned to D/Const Conny Mabunda, attached to the SAPS’s Giyani Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

She started with investigations that led to the arrest of the accused and his subsequent sentencing.

Ishmael Mugodi was speaking during the launch of Azwindini Lutendo Masuwa’s book, Unshakable, which was held recently at Maangani village.

“I read the book from cover to cover, and I stand here to tell you that it had opened up my mind to a wide range of perceptions and viewpoints when it comes to approaching one’s financial life,” Mugodi said, who is also a writer in his own right.

A prolific author, Richardt Rambau, reminded people that being born into a poor family should not determine one’s future. “Being born into a poor family is not a choice, but dying poor is a choice,” he said. “Time has come for you to step out of your comfort zones and start shaping your life.”

Masuwa took to the stage and extended his gratitude to all the people who had helped shape him into the man that he had become in society.

His book aims to educate readers on investments. “The prime reason I wrote this book was to share insight with regard to financial intelligence and offer the best knowledge and wisdom that assisted ancient people and still do in our generation,” he said.

Masuwa holds a bachelors’ degree in criminal justice from the University of Venda and an honours degree in criminal justice from the University of Limpopo. He currently runs an African Institute for training and consultation, a company that helps in training people how to invest their money on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

By Tshifhiwa Mukwevho The award-winning gospel singer Rhuu Tshikovha has just released a sterling single, which has already been receiving massive airplay on national and community radio stations.

In the towns, villages and tertiary institutions everyone is also talking about the single, Hallelujah.

Hallelujah was produced at Les Royals, who has an amazing track record in producing excellent music in the country. The song was written by King Edward Maposa and composed by Rhuu Tshikovha and Edward Maposa.

Rhuu Tshikovha, who once stated that talent was not enough in any artistic field as one needed to work hard, so that the product could leave a lasting mark, has just lived up to her words yet again.

“Hallelujah is a song that is well

received out there because people can feel it as it touches their souls,” she said. “This song is a kind of a prayer to the Highest God, it's an invitation to Him to come to our rescue in times of hardship and storms. It says that I won't stop singing and praising God, no matter what.”

Rhuu Tshikovha's full name is Rudzani Cheron Mudzielwana from the rural village of Tshixwadza in the Thulamela area. She has had a colourful music career, and she was a lead vocalist in the live DVD and CD recording for the musical group called Extreme Worship in 2016. She was also featured on the song Deeper by The Xplicits Crew from Abuja in Nigeria in 2018.

She released her first album called Madzanga in 2016. In July last year, she released a deep-worship single, entitled Your Throne.

Born into a disadvantaged family living in Tshikota outside Louis Trichardt, Mbedzi remained focused.

He yearned to be a radio presenter.

“I completed my matric in 2009 but could not go further due to financial problems. During my spare time, I used to listen to Jones Netshipise, Phalaphala FM’s afternoon drive show presenter.

Netshipise really inspired me,” says Mbedzi adding that he nicknamed himself

Tshidevhi, meaning something that could be used to grind grain into smooth powder.

He started his career by recording himself on a cellphone and playing it back until he approved of the voice and the presentation sounded good.

After several recordings, Mbedzi tried his luck with Musina Community Radio.

He was hired and Victor Hulumeni, the news editor, taught him the ropes. Years of experience has earned him another nickname, Vsquared. Most of his listeners are from in and

around Musina.

“Do not allow anything to hinder your way. If you have an opportunity to study, please go to college or any university and fulfil your dreams,” says Mbedzi.

By Frank Mavhungu His fans call him “Lolo”, but his real name is Lawrence Mabasa. Just like most music artists, Mabasa’s love of music started when he was still a Sunday school learner.

According to him, back in 1993 he realized that he could make a living out of music, but only in the 2003 did he decide to stand on his own.

After realizing that his music had reached maturity, Mabasa tried his luck by recording his debut album, Lead me to Calvary, towards the end of 2003.

The album performed above his expectations, even though it was self-marketed and distributed. The album marked the starting points for Lolo’s road to fame.

The Malamulele-based singer went back to the recording studio again in 2007. His second album, Think of me, was released in the same year.

in 2009, with When peace like a river following in 2011. The year 2014 saw Mabasa going to the MB Recording Studio in Thohoyandou, where he recorded his sixth album, Blessed assurance.

His seventh album, Sekusile, was recorded at the same studio in 2017. Sekusile was followed by Pass me not the following year. After releasing his eighth album, Mabasa vanished from music circles for about a year. He resurfaced with his ninth project, There is a river, three weeks ago.

The new release consists of 11 songs.

Some of the tracks expected to make the new release an instant hit with fans include Murena ro u gwadamela, Jehova thelu moya, imbeu, U tshi fhatutshedza vhanwe and the title song, There is a river. According to him, he will be performing at various ceremonies, including weddings, memorial services and unveiling of tombstones in the coming months to promote his new album.

A dream comes true for Tovho Being on radio has always been the dream of a Phalaphala FM educational programmer, producer and presenter, Ms Tovhowani “Tovho” Rathala.

Rathala matriculated at Swobani High in 2003 and the following year she proceeded to the University of Venda, completed certificate in Business English and in 2009 she completed a BA degree in media and language studies.

“It has never been easy for me to venture into the radio industry. I joined Makhado Community Radio in 2009 as news editor until 2010, when a vacancy opened for me at Phalaphala FM. I grabbed it with both hands.”

She became a producer and presenter of educational programmes on Phalaphala FM in 2011, “because I wanted to expose my talent to the public for a long time. I’m still young and there is still more to offer to my community. I did not allow fame to go to my head, but I gave myself more time to read my books. My secrets for success are hard work, effective time management and the desire to succeed,” she added. “I have always believed that, no matter how many shots I have missed, I’m going to make the next one.”

“I set realistic goals for myself and I strive to achieve them without failure. I have also learnt to believe in myself and to learn from my past mistakes at all times,” she explained.

She advised the youth to study hard, “so that they may be able to make a significant contribution in the community in which they live. Youths must also stay away from drugs and criminal activities and prepare themselves for careers that will benefit them in life”.

She is not yet satisfied with her recent success as she plans to achieve even more in life. “I need more skills to improve my work environment.” As a young woman, she feels a duty to be the voice of the voiceless. “I want to inspire and tell African stories,” Rathala explained.

When she is not working, she loves reading and writing. Part of her plan is to harness her skills as a radio presenter. Her message to young people is to always put education first. “Go to school, find out what you want and go after it. Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something; believe in yourself,” she concluded.

In 2012, Government proclaimed that 21 February will be observed and commemorated as Armed Forces Day (AFD).

AFD is not just about putting the SANDF through its paces in a simulated combat environment; it is all about reaching out to the people. When we set out to hold AFD this year we have two major objectives: to showcase the SANDF to the people it is sworn to serve and to test its abilities to defend the sovereignty of this nation. Mobilising 8500 soldiers, sailors, medics and air force personnel from across the country to a single point - and keeping them there for a protracted period of time- is a major logistical exercise.

It is also a day on which the South African population honours men and women of the SANDF by affirming its support and gratitude to them for upholding the Constitution of the Republic. It is for this reason that the AFD coincides with the commemoration of the sinking of the SS Mendi on 21 February 1917 during which 616 were from the South African Native Corps and 33 crew members perished in the icy waters of the English Channel.

Armed Forces Day 2020 will be officiated by the President of the Republic of South Africa and Commander-in-Chief of the SANDF, President Cyril Ramaphosa at the AFD military parade on 21 February 2020 at Suid Street (CBD), Polokwane.

The University of Venda gave 48 students awards for academic performance during the Vice-Chancellor’s Student Academic Excellence Awards ceremony held at the university’s auditorium last Thursday.

Speaking to Limpopo Mirror after the awards, the best overall student, Tshinanne Tshiololi, said he was ecstatic about his achievement. “I’m delighted and lost for words. I really thank God for this achievement, even though it was hard work. I identified my strengths and weaknesses in order to know where to put in more attention and effort.”

He added that, “when I write exams, I don’t write for the sake of passing, I always aim to pass with distinction. Everything is possible if you believe in yourself. Be determined, even if it’s difficult because there is always a reward for not giving up”.

The foundation-phase and first-year students each received R8 000 in prize money, the second-year students who were awarded each received R9 000, and the top third-year students each received R10 000. The students received 20% of the amount in cash, while the remainder of the amount will be used in various forms that the awardees may choose, such as tuition fees, books and accommodation.

Prof Nancy Mutshaeni, Director of the Centre for Higher Education Teaching and Learning, said the awards were started in 2013 with the aim of promoting a culture of teaching and learning through healthy competition. “I applaud you for your hard work and devoting most of your time to your studies. For those who didn’t make it this year, work harder in order to be one of the recipients next year.”

Addressing the first-time entry students during the official opening of the academic year last Thursday, he told the students that their academic journey has just begun and the progress of completing their studies and courses would largely depend on how they conduct themselves.

He commended them for choosing the institution as their preferred institution of higher learning in furthering their educational aspirations. “It is through your excellent performance in matric that you were able to secure your admission at this university. You have been selected for admission out of 20 677 new applications which were competing for 3 100 places.”

He added that for the past years the lives of the students were mostly directed and dictated by parents, guardians and teachers. “You have now become the sole author of the next chapters of your story. You can determine the direction and the pace at which your story should go.

Make a vow to yourself that you are going to complete your studies within the minimum stipulated time,” he said.

He also told the new students that they will have the opportunity to learn new things, acquire new knowledge, develop new skills, and enhance their personal attributes. “At the same time, you are going to make new friends who will become your friends for life. Make efforts to know other students who share different cultural, social and linguistic background,” he said.

He advised them to reject ideas, beliefs, values, norms and systems that perpetuate violence against women and children. “We are well placed to provide education and safe spaces to discuss these issues that are affecting the moral fibre of our societies. We are adopting a zero-tolerance approach to perpetrators of gender-based Dr Bernard Nthamviolence and sexual beleni. abuse,” he added.

While Mikhado will be fighting with the aim of keeping their title hopes alive, TRON must also win the match, but for a different reason.

Mikhado are currently in the third position on the log standings with 36 points,

four behind the pace setters, Magesi FC. Mikhado have two matches in hand. Should they win their two outstanding matches, Mikhado will jump to the top of the log, two points ahead of Magesi FC. On the other hand, TRON must win the match in order to move out of the relegation zone. Although TRON are currently in the 10th spot on the log, they are not safe when it comes to relegation.

By Frank Mavhungu Tshakhuma RO Nandilani (TRON) proved beyond doubt that they are serious about escaping the relegation axe when they beat Ollesdal FC 2-0 in their ABC Motsepe League match at the Tshisaulu Mmbengeni Kone grounds on Saturday.

This was the second consecutive victory for TRON after they beat Ablex United 4-0 two weeks ago.

The visitors from Polokwane demonstrated a spirit of commitment in the first 15 minutes of the game, but their original stamina vanished with time. Although Ollesdal lost shape in the middle of the park as the game progressed, their right back, Rudzani

Munyai was everywhere, creating dangerous moves from behind, while at the same time playing as a right winger.

Realizing that their defence was leaking, TRON effected the first change to their starting 11 some 18 minutes into the game.

They replaced Lufuno Mulaudzi with Gift Nemutandani as a way of stabilising their midfield. Nemutandani formed a good combination with Maboho Nevari and Ndivhuwo Makhado in the middle of the park.

TRON took the game to the visitors soon afterwards, but no goal was seen until the referee blew the half-time whistle. TRON continued to enjoy ball possession in the

last half. Their opening goal came in the 49th minute. Dakalo “Akonkwo” Nemakonde received a neat pass from Gift Nemutandani in the 25-meter area and ran straight to the keeper before unleashing a half volley from inside the box.

Ollesdal realized that it was not their day when they were reduced to 10 men moments thereafter. Thabo Mangena was given his marching orders for handling intentionally.

TRON capitalized on the setback and increased the margin through Maboho Nevari in the 68th minute. He beat the keeper with a long-range half volley.

Mudau, a mother of three, is a resident of Maniini village. She started to participate in long-distance running in 1997, under the guidance of the late Mr Muthivhi. “I feel very honoured by receiving top honours in this race,” she said. She also thanked the people of Vhembe area and Limpopo at large for supporting her throughout the years. Mudau confirmed that she is preparing for this year’s Comrades Marathon.

Can Leopards stop Pirates?

By Frank Mavhungu The much-awaited Absa Premiership League match between Black Leopards and Orlando Pirates will be staged at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday

afternoon.

Orlando Pirates, or the Mighty Buccaneers as they are affectionately called, might be in top form at the moment, but they must double their efforts if they are serious about collecting the maximum points at the expense of Lidoda Duvha.

The Buccaneers’ performance improved dramatically, following the appointment of Mr Josef Zinnbauer as the team’s head coach towards the end of last year. Pirates won six league matches in a row under the guidance of Zinnbauer before losing 4-5 to Bidvest Wits in their Nedbank Cup clash last Sunday.

A victory for Pirates will enhance their chances of lifting the league trophy at the end of the season. The Soweto giants are in the second position on the log standings.

On the other hand, Leopards must win the match to move out of the relegation quagmire. The Thohoyandou outfit are currently lying in the third position from the bottom of the log.

They are tied on 20 points with Amazulu and Baroka FC, while the tail-enders,

Polokwane City, have deposited 17 points into their league account to date.

Lidoda Duvha will be without their number one goalkeeper, Jonas Mendes, when they face Pirates. Mendes was taken off the pitch on a stretcher with a foot injury in their Nedbank Cup game against North West University at the same venue last Sunday.

According to the Leopards’ general manager, Mr Elijah Mulaudzi, their new signee, Joseph Douhadji, is likely to be in the starting 11 on Sunday.

Whether the Pirates’ defenders will have enough strength to stop Leopards’ strikers in Thobani Mncwango, Lesedi Kapinga, Xolani Ndlovu and Joseph Mhlongo remains to be seen. The Leopards’ stoppers, Abel Zulu, Edwin Gyimah and Isaac Masia, must keep a watchful eye on the Pirates’ strikers, Thembinkosi Lorch, Vincent Pule, and the current league’s top goal scorer, Gabadinho Mhango.

TTM to face Steenberg

By Frank Mavhungu After suffering two successive defeats, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations for their GladAfrica Championship League match against Steenberg United at the Thohoyandou

TTM lost 0-1 to Richards Bay FC before suffering a 0-2 defeat at the hands of University of Pretoria two weeks ago.

The team’s assistant coach, Mr Lucky Nelukau, attributed the two defeats to poor target shooting by the strikers. He said that the team had created numerous scoring chances in the two games and had failed to convert even one of them. He revealed that they had been working on the strikers’ target shooting over the past two weeks to avoid more humiliation.

After watching his teammates doing the job from the grandstand for several weeks, Tshepo Makgoga, the TTM right back, is likely to be in the team’s starting 11 tomorrow. Should he be given a chance, Makgoga is expected to combine well with the likes of Lebohang Mabotja, Carlington Nyadombo and Enort Dzaga at the far back.

Thembisani Nevhulamba and Wonderboy Makhubu, the TTM strikers, will cause havoc in United’s danger area if not well contained.

TS Sporting will host Free State Stars at the Kabokweni Stadium outside Nelspruit. Mbombela United will travel to Johannesburg where they will lock horns with Swallows FC. Cape Umoya United will fly to Durban for their match against Uthongathi FC and the title chasers, JDR Stars, will entertain Royal Eagles at the Soshanguve Giant Stadium outside Pretoria.

The University of Pretoria will host TS Galaxy and Jomo Cosmos, and Richards Bay FC will fight for league points at the Umhlatuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay. Ajax Cape Town will play against Real Kings at the Cape Town Stadium.
