Black Leopards win derby for a good start to season By Frank Mavhungu Black Leopards started their Absa Premiership campaign on a high note, following their 1-0 victory over Polokwane City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday evening. sharpshooter, could not live up to the fans’ expectations as he was well contained. City enjoyed more ball possession in the first 10 minutes of the game, but things changed soon afterwards. Leopards’ left winger, Xolani Ndlovu, was brought down just outside the box 12 minutes into the game. Karabo Tshepe took the shot and beat the City keeper, George Chigova, with a half volley. line. Marvin Sikhosana of City was the first player to be cautioned with a card. He found himself on the wrong side of the football laws after tackling Xolani Ndlovu in a rough manner in the 19th minute. City came close to scoring in the 37th minute. Banele Sikhondze forced his way through the defence of Leopards and dished a square pass to Ramagalela, who was in a perfect scoring position. Instead of relaxing on the ball and picking his spot, Ramagalela unleashed a volley. The ball went far wide. Leopards replaced their frontrunner, Joseph Mhlongo, with their slender striker, Ivan Mahangwahaya, in the 64th minute. Mahangwahaya combined well with Mwape Musonda and Karabo Tshepe at the forefront. Leopards played defensive football for about 15 minutes after the replacement. That gave the City defenders a chance to advance to the centre of the pitch. The visitors from Thohoyandou missed two clear chances towards the end of the game. Ivan Mahangwahaya and Mwape Musonda shot wide one after the other. Leopards played against Highlandspark at the Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa yesterday. Final hurdle for MTG League teams By Frank Mavhungu Most of the affiliates for the MTG League, or Thulamela Local Football Association as it was formerly known, will play their final league matches for the current season this weekend. The Stream A log leaders, Begwa United Brothers, have nothing to lose in their final match. Begwa are already sure of a place in the SAB League. They are leading the pack with 69 points, 16 ahead of Munangwe United Brothers. Muraga Hazard Hotspurs are also preparing for a new life in the higher division. They are leading Stream B with 66 points. The second-placed Mukoma All Stars have deposited 52 points into their league account to date. Stream C is led by Tswinga Young Stars, who have 66 points, 12 ahead of Tshiulungoma FC. Even if they lose their last match by whatever margin, Ngovhela XI Experience will be campaigning in the SAB League when the activities for the new season start next
month. Ngovhela are leading Stream D with 78 points. Miluwani Happy Boys are behind them with 66 points. Tshilapfene Arsenal must beat Ngwenani Manchester United in their last match in order to gain promotion to the SAB League. They will meet at the Ngwenani grounds tomorrow. Makwarani Frelimo Boys need one point in their last match. They are shining on top of Stream G with 64 points, seven ahead of Vhutalu Mountain Rangers. Mountain Rangers have a match in hand. Shadani Dangerous Scorpi-
ons will also be campaigning in the higher division next season. They are on top of the Stream H league log. Tshanzhe Pre-Mighty and Ngalavhani FC must win their last matches in order to gain promotion to the SAB League. Unlike in the previous seasons, where the champions from the 10 streams would meet in the Champ of Champs matches in order to determine the overall champions, the champions from the 10 streams will gain automatic promotion to the SAB League this season. This was confirmed by the league’s chairman, Mr Ephraim Singo.
