IT’S NOT A DINNER IT’S A TRIAL
I explored the conflicts and wounds among family members using the phenomenon of "DiningTable Mansplaining", a unique Chinese-style family education approach. In the form of clay installations, I delved into the pain experienced by many children at the dining table. Due to the habit of many Chinese elders to criticize children, force them to eat disliked foods, or derive amusement at the child's expense, the dining table often becomes a source of distress for them. From the perspective of children, I narrate the fear they experience when facing rebukes from family members at the dining table. Using clay tableware, I recreated the contorted and angry faces of family members before them, capturing the frightened expressions of children. Through these clay representations symbolizing each family member, I reconstructed a scene of "DiningTable Mansplaining", a recurring phenomenon during Chinese family dinners.
