Zone One Arabian Horse Club Since 1974

Spring Newsletter 2011 Mission Statement: To Promote the Arabian horse as a versatile breed for all disciplines by having clinics, schooling shows, horse shows and trail rides for members.

President’s Ponderings of Spring 2011 We are once again only a few short weeks away from our first horse show. You are hopefully going to be a member again this year and if you have not yet paid your membership fee, please do so. Even though you are not going to be showing at our club shows, you would still want to be a member and give support and insight where needed. Our show dates have been booked and judges are being confirmed. Our show committee for this year will hopefully help make all the shows run smoothly and efficiciently. I’m looking to get some jobs done by members as some directors are already doing lots for the club. We needs ideas from you as to what type of awards you would like to see this year at the awards banquet. These are high point awards and the winners have worked hard to attain them. Another area of help would be to suggest ways for our club to promote the Arabian Breed in the Greater London area. Some members already do that by bringing their Arabian Horses to local fairs and compete in various classes. But there is more possible. Perhaps some members this year could offer articles for our newsletter to make it a worthwhile read for everyone. Let’s make it helpful to all. The one final job I’m putting out there is the job of getting more Arabian Horse owners in our region to become involved again with other Arabian Horse owners. Everyone says that it is too expensive to show nowadays. I don’t think our club is one of those where expense prohibits participation. Kindly email me or talk to me at one of our shows if you would like to be a volunteer for one or more of those “jobs” I have listed. Don’t forget to invite a friend to one of your shows. I want to wish you a very successful and happy show season. But above all >>> enjoy your beautiful Arabian Horses in whatever you do .

Looking for: Photos!!!

Do you have a picture you’d like to see in the newsletter? I’m looking for pictures from this or prior show seasons, pictures of your youngsters or oldtimers, stallions, foals, etc. Pictures are used for promotion of the breed and let fellow members know who is showing and what horses the other members have. Forward pictures to stacihanson@hotmail.com and include a subject line saying “Zone One Pictures”

Zone One Arabian Horse Club AGM 2011 Annual General Meeting Minutes

Agenda: 1. Memberships for 2011 2. Review of 2011 3. Treasurer’s Report for 2011 4. New Business a) Reduce number of directors b) Show dates c) Insurance for 2011 d) Sponsorships for 2011 e) Committees f) AHA shows g) Promotional activities h) Other 5. General discussion about our club and its activities. 6. Other agenda items from members present. 7. Adjournment Secretary Minutes (Stacie Hanson) Opening: Reiteration that Zone One’s goals concern the promotion of our breed and club. We are looking for new ways to attract spectators, owners, exhibitors, etc. Trade Shows such as Ontario Farm Show may be a viable option in the future to set up a booth and/or bring a horse down. Treasurer’s Report from Susan Straus $500 down for the years total. In part due to several less memberships, cost of showgrounds have increased and insurance has increased. However, Club is still in good standing. Additional help for Treasurer duties has been offered and accepted from Helen & Vicki. New Director Business: Removal of some directors in favour of committees to take care of the shows on their day. This will allow for directors with horses/training/lesson students to be able to participate in the show and help the show days go more smoothly. Removal of 3 directors positions in favour of committee and due to constraints regarding time. Susan Vella has resigned due to her recent move. The idea is less is more. Show Committee: Harry & Carol Stuart, Tracey Coventry, Susan Tindall & Adriaan Brand Sponsors: Upcoming newsletters will feature business ads for the sponsors of the Western Fair Show. As this was the first year organizing, we were unable to properly recognize our sponsors and general conscensus is to allow for some free advertising in our newsletter. A director is to be put in charge (with helpers) to help retain and gain more sponsors for future shows. Motion to continue to sponsor our Fair shows (such as Shedden): Made: Pat, 2nd Stacie. Passed Motion: Board of Directors stays the same with three exceptions: Susan Vella, Cally Jo Fritz & Barb Crawford have been removed. To help make up for this loss of directors, people on the show committee will help. Made: Harry 2nd: Stacie. Passed.

AHAEC: General constitution places Zone One as a mutual attachment to AHAEC. Do we wish to continue this partnership, when recent events regarding the ‘mutual’ benefits seems to need to be redefined? 1.) Keeper Trophy: at High Point AHAEC. Motion to continue: passed. However, we will put forth to AHAEC that we would like them to sponsor an award for our Zone One Members in good faith. 2.) AHAEC Sizzler: is still up in the air if Zone One is a part of this. Motion to continue to sponsor AHAEC: Made: Carol, 2nd: Darlene. Passed Eastern Canadian Breeders: Jill Barton was contacted in regards to possibly holding the ECB at the Western Fair Show, which would help draw interest and maybe cut the expense down of holding the ECB at Region 18. Adriaan is to look at putting forth an application. Class List: Class lists for Zone One will stay the the same this year. The Reining Pattern will change from #6. Motion to delete the junior horse class. Made: Pat, 2nd: Harry. Opposed and defeated. Reasoning: the junior horse classes run as a regular riding class and leaving them in the list does not extend the day any further. This leaves it open to new people with young horses who may wish to participate in a green class. Facebook: Alauna Tindall has offered to help with the Facebook page for Zone One, to help attract people and connect our members. This allows for more advertising. Facebook is a huge networking opportunity, for not just local people, and has the possibility for keeping Zone One connected on a more national level as well. (which may attract Americans for our Western Fair Show) Life Memberships: Proposal was made to honour several past members who had significant impact on the Zone One Club in its early years. Bill & Marge Nowlan, Bob& Fran Hewitt Nadine and Brian Swance, Marney Carter, Sunny Snider. Certificates and complimentary newsletters will be provided. Motion to accept: Made: Carol, 2nd: Harry. Passed Adjourned
