2022 PORTFOLIO



TASKED WITH TAKING AN ORDINARY OBJECT AND USING TECHNICAL VIEWS OF PLAN, ELEVATION, AND SECTION TO ANIMATE THE OBJECT TO CREATE A NARRATIVE OF HOW THE OBJECT IS USED BY HUMANS.
THE ORDINARY OBJECT I CHOSE WAS A HAIR CLIP. PLAN, SECTION, AND ELEVATION ARE DRAWN AT 1:1 SCALE ON BRISTOL USING GRAPHITE AND ANIMATION IS DRAWN AT 2:1 SCALE ON LAYERED VELUM,WHERE COLOR IS USED TO SHOW THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PHASES OF THE CLIP MOVEMENT. THE MOVES FROM LEFT TO RIGHT CONVEYING THE PROCESS OF OPENING A HAIR CLIP AND PULLING IT AWAY FROM THE HAIR.
TASKED WITH CREATING A SYSTEM OF RULES TO GOVERN THE MOVEMENT OF A LINE OVER THE FACE OF AN UNROLLED CUBE, WHICH WHEN FOLDED IN 3D CONNECTS TO CREATE ONE LOOP FROM WHICH SOLID AND VOID IS CREATED BY THE REMOVAL OF THE SPACE OUTSIDE THE LOOP.
USING RULE BASED PROCESSES ON AN UNROLLED CUBE I DREW MULTIPLE ITERATIONS OF A SINGULAR LOOP WHICH WHEN CLOSED DIVIDED THE CUBE INTO TWO SEPARATE PARTS. SYSTEMATIC BREAKING OF THE RULES WAS NECESSARY AS SHOWN IN THE DECONSTRUCTED AND PATCHED STUDY MODEL. THE RULES I FOLLOWED CREATED A TWICE SELF INTERSECTING CURVE WHICH PRODUCED A MODEL WITH THREE LOBES WHERE THE SOLID MIRRORED THE VOID AS SHOWN IN THE UNROLLED SURFACE. SUBSEQUENTLY THE AXONOMETRIC DRAWING SHOWS THE CONTINUOUS CURVE AND THE THREE LOBES THAT DERIVE FROM THE RULES.
TASKED WITH USING RULE BASED PROCESSES TO CREATE A FIGURE GROUND DIAGRAM. FROM THE FIGURE GROUND DIAGRAM, CREATE A 3D FORM. THE BRING THE PROJECT BACK TO A 2D STATE IN THE FORM OF AN ELEVATION DRAWING IN RHINO. FINALLY BACK TO A 3D DIGITAL MODEL GOVERNED BY THE ELEVATION DRAWING.
THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT ORDERED LISTS WERE CREATED TO MAKE THE PROJECTS REPEATABLE BY OTHER ARTISTS, WHICH CAME INTO USE WHEN THE STUDIO EXCHANGED LISTS WITH ONE ANOTHER TO USE FOR THE NEXT PHASE OF THE PROJECT. AFTER EACH PHASE THE PROJECTS WERE EXCHANGED TO TEST THE ORDER LIST AND RULE BASE PROCESSES THAT RESULTED IN THE CREATION OF THE WORK. THIS FIRST PAGE IS THE PROJECT THAT I KEPT CONSISTENT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRETY OF THE EXERCISE
TASKED WITH DESIGNING A SPACE AROUND OBJECTS. STARTING WITH THE STUDY OF SEQUENTIAL EXPERIENCE THROUGH A BUILDING THROUGH COLLAGE. THEN THE STUDY OF SELECT OBJECTS THROUGH RESEARCH AND MODELING A SPACE FOR THE OBJECT. COMBINED WITH A STUDY OF THE SITE COMPOSITION TO CREATE A PAVILION FOR THE EXHIBITION OF SELECT OBJECTS THAT ENRICHES THE EXPERIENCE OF THE VIEWER.
WHEN MAKING THE PHOTOSHOP COLLAGE, THE STUDIO WAS DIVIDED INTO PAIRS OF TWO TO COLLAGE ONE BUILDING. I WORKED WITH CLASSMATE DALIA JIHA IN COLLAGING EGGARS HALL ON THE SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS. DURING THE RESEARCH PHASE OF THE PROJECT THE STUDIO WAS ASSIGNED BARBARA HEPWORTH SCULPTURES, MINE SPECIFICALLY BEING THE 1946 PELAGOS SCULPTURE WHICH THE TWO STUDY MODELS BELOW BEING RENDITIONS OF A SPACE TO EXHIBIT THE PELAGOS SCULPTURE. BASED OFF THE SINGLE UNIT WAS MULTIPLIED AND ALTERED TO CREATE A PAVILION TO HOUSE MULTIPLE BARBARA HEPWOTH WORKS.
