Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men and women golf teams start the 2009-10 season when the travel to Montgomery, Ala. to compete in the ASU Fall Golf Classic. The event will take place at Lagoon Park Golf Course from September 13-15 and is hosted by Alabama State.

The pool of competition includes teams from: Alabama State (M,W), Grambling (M,W), Savannah State (M,W), Mississippi Valley State (M,W), Springhill College (M,W), Faulkner (M,W), Texas Southern (W), South Carolina State (W), Southern (M), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (M), Alabama A&M (M), Baptist College (M), Birmingham Southern (M), Mobile (M), Morehouse, and Talladega (M).

The defending PGA Men's Minority Collegiate National Champions TSU Tigers lost one golfer from last year's team and are led by senior Chris Seibel. Seibel finished with a team best 75.1 average while finishing seventh in the individual standings at the 2009 OVC Championships. Also adding depth is juniors Richard Gill and Ryan Smith with sophomores Christopher McKay and Dorian Vauls. The squad adds freshman Cameron Scitern from Rockdale, Texas who was the 2009 District 24AAA Champion and helped his team win the Red River Challenge Cup in 2008. He also helped team USA win at the International Junior Golf Invitational in Mexico. On the women's side the Tigers return sophomores Mya Billingsley, Marie Black, and Jamie Pierce after losing three players form last year's team. Black finished second on the team with a 93.4 average. Her 35th place finish in the overall individual standings was the best for the Tigers at the 2008 OVC Championship. The team will reload with newcomers, freshman Jatoia Potts and senior Katelyn Dingeman. Next, the men's squad will head to the Atlanta, Ga. during the Atlanta Football Classic weekend from Sept. 25-27 to participate in the Black College Invitational Golf Tournament at the Browns Mill Golf Course hosted by the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc. The women's next competition will take place when they rejoin the men's squad on October 18-20 in Clarksville, Tenn. at Austin Peay State's F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.
