The studio prompt invites us to rethink the concept of a border, considering the unique context of the Canada-U. S. relationship. Given that the two countries share the longest undefended border in the world and have historically enjoyed a close and friendly connection, we are challenged to explore new possibilities for what this border could look like.
In my view, one potential approach is to envision the border as a shared resource corridor that serves both nations, providing an opportunity for collaborative problem-solving.

The Shanghai Botanical Garden, established in 1980, has experienced a decline in popularity over the years with the construction of a new botanical garden. To address this issue and revitalize the site, the project aims to design a modern conservatory that provides a new identity and purpose for the space.
The original two uneven conservatories are divided into multiple units to strengthen mutual connection and form a harmonious layout.
The special structure of conservatory regulates the micro-climate in the site, which is suitable for the growth environment of various plants.

Over the past century, the coastline of the Upper Narragansett Bay and Seekonk River have been transformed: the marshes have been filled in, the coastline hardened, and the coastal ecology dramatically altered in the service of industry. This area of the waterfront has significant challenges in terms of fragmentation, access, likely contamination, low functioning ecology, and identity.
In this studio, we think beyond the boundaries of the site to consider how this habitat can extend throughout the sites context and along the waterfront to create a more resilient urban ecosystem.
How shall I describe you?
My abundant mother;
Like the pumpkins in fall, that color the fields. Like the milk from the mountain top, that feed the rivers. Like the ripe stars in July, that keep my eyes peeled.
I pick up your fallen hair to build my home, I collect your tears from the sky to quench my thirst, I grow food on your skin to feed my family.
You never take, but you always provide. So I pile up stones to pray for you; Bury salmon in the soil to nourish you; Look at the vast starry sky to remember you.
The things I took from you nurtured me, And also became me.
Whenever I walk barefoot on the wet spring soil, I am the rain in your hands.

The main food for indigenous people here are corn, beans and squash, together they were called three sisters.
They support each other and become a self-sufficiency system, which makes them don’t need extra fertilizer, it’s good for the soil and ecology.

Guiyu is home to the world’s largest e-waste dump, where the local ecological environment has been severely impacted by the manual disposal of electronic waste using acid and the subsequent discharge of acid into rivers, leading to health problems for residents.
The aim of the project is to enhance the local ecological environment by implementing measures such as landfilling and cleaning up the river on the site. Additionally, the project seeks to provide a space for local residents to engage in outdoor activities.

Compare four modes of landfill, three of which are suitable for landfill. Therefore, I refer to current site conditions to fit different forms of landfill.

Landfill site transformed into children's botanical paradise
The landfill site contains several landfill units with slightly different shapes, all of which come from the same prototype. The prototype has been adapted as a new venue for multiple purposes.
Landfill unit provides various activity spaces for citizens
After landfilling, plants grow and evolve on it, eventually forming a rich plant space and becoming children's favorite place to do outside activities in nature. Families from surrounding cities can come here for camping and family activities.
The simulation experiment of different water level shows the regulation of rainwater and flood on the site.

Chicago is a big city where people are constantly on the go. The towering skyscrapers and gusty winds create an atmosphere of pressure and urgency. Picasso square, once a popular gathering place, now requires a new purpose and identity to cater to the needs of the modern generation. The square is situated amidst numerous office buildings, with countless office workers traversing through it daily. The aim of the project is to provide a space that caters to their needs after work.

Plastic waste is very difficult to decompose. It usually takes more than 200 years to degrade, and 80% of plastic waste will eventually going into the ocean. Many marine animals are entangled or choked by plastic waste. This piece is trying to talk about the environmental pollution caused by plastic wastes.
