Courthouses are always a reflection of people’s thought about LAW. During the ancient Greece period, the democracy policy made the courthouse a public space that everyone could hear the debate; while the monarchy in the Middle Ages made the Basilica Church become Courthouse; 18th century, Old Bailey as the most famous courthouse, reflected the sublime of law; Mies’ courthouse in the USA used its flat space to show the equality of law in modern value. What about in the future?

The public can use the elevators and staircases in the atrium to get to each courtroom.

They can use the vertical traffic system on both sides to get to their offices and the lifts outside the courtrooms to get in there.

They can use four elevators to get into each kind of courtroom, those lifts can all come to the identity courtroom at the top.

A rotating system that control the meatal black box.

SCIENCE - NEURONS Science told us our spirit is just a network of neurons, there is no so-called "Ghost" in our shell.

SELF - CONSCIOUSNESS Scientists used mirror to test if a creature has self-consciousness or not. Find yourself in these mirrors.

PHILOSOPHY - DUALITY Descartes divided human into two parts Body and Spirit. But as we discovered that it is impossible to separate them. So what about the fuzzy zone between them?

RELIGION - DICTATORSHIP In the past, religion told us we were defined by god. This cross structure shows the dictatorship of that period.

HUMAN - SPIRIT COURT

ROBOT - BODY COURT

Human as the subject of a crime, still need a physical custody space to hold the prisoner. As the whole process of the crime would happen on the internet, the restoration of the criminal process requires a certain technical means to project it in the space.

The custody space of this courtroom is a pipe-like space and is more suitable for the robots prisoner. The central mechanical element is to show the evidence and process of a crime. The debating will be held digitally. Jury area

VITRUAL IDENTITY COURT

The concept of this courtroom is to create a system to convert each person's spirit into digital data and merge them together to hold a virtual - reality trial, the process of the trial will be projected on the outside of the wall for the public to view.

This virtual identity courtroom will be the largest and the most important courtroom in this courthouse. Everyone engaged in the trial will be converted into digital data, and every single detail will be recorded in those metal data processor. The AI robot will calculate those data and help to find a solution for future trials. The process of this court's trial will be projected to the city.

If technology will develop to a certain level, the spirit would be saved as data, and the trial will be held virtually. A system for this kind of courtroom will come up: transmission pipe, data converter, information projector and even spaces just for robots, not for humans. The advanced technology will find an answer to the identity/definition for both the audience and the relevant person of the trial. Although human will probably get confused about our self-identity as our meaning of being a human seems to be deconstructed by the internet and AI, we still need to embrace the future, as Donna Haraway said, “I would rather be a cyborg than a goddess.”

SITE LOCATION

"PLAY" AS THE CONCEPT Plato once declared that "life must come as a game." Also Kant drew an analogy between the “free art” and play, claiming that it is to experience the life of their own fun. Play has a profound influence on rebuilding the public space of cities. Over 700 playgrounds’ experiment by Aldo van Eyck illustrates the essence of the metamorphosis of what may be called urban “space” into urban “place”.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT The development of residential building design is mainly reflected in aesthetics change and building height increase, while the functional program is still similar. This design is trying to reveal a new residential possibility in the modern city, which has a close integration of public & private space. The folding operation of volume creates a new chance for the space to meet each other and the huge atrium also create more communication possibilities for residents. As playing becomes part of our surrounding environment, the joyful potential will be discovered under our routined lives.

ELEMENTS EXTRACTING AND RECONSTRUCTION

Huangjueping was a typical Chinese community in history. This place suffered from fierce history and what left today are the ruins of that period’s military factories and dormitories. While after the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, the whole shore area along the Yangtze River was changed to Jiulong electrical power plant and a ferry pier and the east part was dominated by a rail system, which all ended their lives in the 21st century. The special aesthetic of these abandoned military and industrial buildings became the inspiration of artists after Sichuan Fine Arts Institute moved to this place. As the Jiulong electrical power plant is about to be deconstructed, Huangjueping starts to losing its symbol and spirit. Started from Wresearch, we decided to choose the history timeline as our entry point, try to reconstruct the communal spirit of this area to activate the whole site.

16

ELEMENTS EXTRACTING AND RECONSTRUCTION

Combining the negative space on the site and extracting the existing historical elements, the memory reconstruction of ten ( red ) points is carried out, and there are ten newly defined places, which provides new energy for the nearby neighbours, give them a chance to experience new activities with the old memory. I tried to reconstruct the link between modern daily life and passed local history.

17

MEMORY AND DAILY LIFE Design of The Bathhouse and Market

Histor y comes and goes, events, memories, rituals and myths have been continuing to go through the life towards the future. Numerous such pauses and continuations constitute a living moment. The market and the bath, two places where activities closely connected with daily life, provide a stage for real life and future expectations.

SHAREHOUSE AS AN EMERGING TYPOLOGY

OPERATION I defined the scale of the volume as 2.5m\ 3.5m\ 4.5m(which standard for the private space, semi-private space and sharing space).

The structure of Japanese households is changing. The typical family number is decreasing. While single households are increasing. The later is made of the young generation and keep increasing. They could not afford the high price of settlement, so sharehouse as a new living style is becoming more and more popular.

2.5 M 3.5 M 4.5 M

The GAPs are created by twisting and rotating the volumes with different angles, the negative space between these volumes become the void, the communal space and the window to the sky. A final result comes from several tests.

MEET REQUIREMENTS OF MODERN LIFE PROGRAM AND LAYOUT The high-density land use in modern societies makes the traditional residential layout no longer suitable for a vertical sharehouse. Adjustments need to be made such as change the linear apartment space to suit the new lifestyle of single people in the modern city, not only for the plan but for the section as well.

SHARE

PRIVATE

Sharehouse as an exploration of a new lifestyle in the metropolis, it provides an opportunity for the minimalists' life choice. There should be a new space for them to live in, as single lives need a chance to participate in public events, they would sacrifice personal space but earn more space with each other. SHARE

SEMI-PUBLIC

PRIVATE

The GAP is the space between outside and inside, public and private, real-life and imagination, it introduces the city view into residential building, brings public activities into personal lives, and takes the reality away but creates a utopian for people living here. The bottom two floors are commercial space for the public, while the upper levels belong to the 15 friends, they share every functions and circulation system in this building, like a big family, rather than 15 different apartments.

The tower comprises of 55 floors, 50 rentable floors, 4 mechanical floors and 1 sky deck on the roof top and BMU on top of the core. The 46 rentable floors are broken by a mechanical floor after every 10-12 office floors. The tower core occupies 23 active lifts with 6 lifts per bank servicing the low rise, mid rise, high rise and sky rise floors. There are also 2 service lifts and 2 escape staircases which goes all the way to the top of the last floor. The total efficiency is achieved at 79% with the sky rise floors at 88% and the total height of the building including the crown is 298m. In this proposal, commitment to relativity of scale, alignment of facades, building setbacks and critical relationships, maintenance of views and vistas, optimal wind passage have informed the location of both the tower and the podium creating a unique approach to the site and enhancing the wider Mlebourne CBD.

INTERNSHIP WORKS

INTERNSHIP WORKS - INTERIOR DESIGN

I participated in some design projects when I was working for AZL architects. I involved in almost every stages in the rural planning project, from the site visiting, designing, diagram drawing, modeling, and the final rendering.

Designed and developed Interior spaces of each gallery, including floor texture, wall ornament and texture, exhibition furniture, and display layout. Rendered 8 of all galleries by V-ray.

This is a competition design of Shanghai Opera Art Center Of Performance and Training. The concept is to translate the gradient changing color of the sleeve of the traditional Yue Opera costumes into facade design. The color also relates to the different openness of programs. The structure system gives the opportunity for the facade to be free and transparent, the form of the truss system also reflects the building outline. Besides got involved in the design phases, I did most of the diagram drawings and the layout of the final presentation file.

GRAINGER MUSEUM FEDERATION HANDBELLS | DESIGN PROPOSAL

This is the design during my studio D, which was focused on the parametric design method and constructing skills. The first half of this semester we designed and build an exhibition in Granger Museum for the bells they intend to display, for doing this, we used 3D printing technology and learned how to develop the properties of materials. In the second half of semester we started to use our parametric skills to design a bench for MSDX and built it by our own hands. We developed some exciting skills like Fologram as AR thecnic, and we leanred how to welded metal rods, bent timber tiles, and used drills and bolts to connect them. That was a really tiring period of time, but we really enjoyed it as well.
