Project I Wending Contryside Township restoration planning and design

Site Background

Location: Wending Village,Yunnan, China 09/2021

Design Instruction The purpose of this plan is to focus on the current village development model, refute and rethink the current top-down planning and decisionmaking methods. This plan attempts to create and provide opportunities and platforms for villagers to choose independently. Taking the ancient town of Wengding, Cangyuan County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province as the design site, combined with the exploration and integration of the ancient town’s economic structure, development methods, Wa culture, and villagers’ lifestyles, a unit-based architecture and space combination was designed.

Let villagers and Wa residents make their own choices and decisions to determine the development style and direction of the village. At the same time, information industries and channels such as the Internet and new media are introduced to help the dissemination and publicity of the Wa culture and promote the sustainable development of the economy. At the same time, we pay attention to ecological sustainability.

Weng Ding Wa called "am diem" or "om diem", which means a stockade by the water, and it also means a place surrounded by clouds and mist. Wengding is located in the western part of Cangyuan County. It is a Wa village with more than 100 households and a history of more than 400 years. It is also the village with the most intact Wa traditional culture.

People living in Wengding Wa Village maintain their primitive beliefs, live in traditional thatched huts, wear their own handmade clothes, raise livestock, engage in traditional artisanal agriculture, and lead a self-

Onding’s culture and customs attract a large number of foreign tourists.

Traditional festivals and activities have their own characteristics.

The government's tourism planning and the construction of Wengding New Village have almost all moved out of the few villagers, making Wengding Village an empty village.

The houses have not been maintained or overhauled for a long time, making the village situation not optimistic.

In February 2021, a fire burned almost all of Wengding Village.

Problems and Challenges

ISSUE1

Wengding Village is located at 99.05~99.18 east longitude, 23.10~23.19 north latitude, and 1500 meters above sea level.

The climate of Wengding Village is subtropical and tropical three-dimensional climate type.

There is a contradiction between tourism development and the increasing quality of life of villagers. The topdown slicing government tourism planning makes it difficult for the village to develop freely.

ISSUE2

The quality of life and experience of villagers and tourists cannot be guaranteed. Poor and poor infrastructure and public services are not in place.

ISSUE3

The traditional wooden structure of dry fence is difficult to meet the development of villagers' families, whether it is from economic development or population size and structure, it needs to be improved.

ISSUE4

The alienation of the younger generation from national culture, customs and traditions is detrimental to the cultural heritage of the nation.

The administrative jurisdiction of Wengding Village includes Laozhai,Xinzhai, Shuirongzhai, Dazhai, Qiaotouzhai, Xinyazhai.

Several villages are located among a mangosteen.

Wengding Mapping Through the analysis of the settlement space of the site and the culture and behavior of residents, it is found that Wengding’s construction and development have a central spatial concept in the three levels of macro, meso, and micro.

Villagers in Wengding Village have different thinking and arrangements for different spaces and behaviors when constructing settlements.

The villagers built a spiritual symbol with an important psychological hierarchy in the center of the settlement, as the center of the settlement and the villagers’ psychology. At the same time, outside the residential area, use spaces of different functions and psychological levels to surround one's main living place and occupy an area larger than the living area of people.

Project II The Name of Seed Commercial center building and surrounding green space design Location: Saudi Arabia 07/2021

Design Instruction This project choose a venue in Saudi Arabia. Hope to set up an activity center for women and children. Because Islamic women need to wear black veil every day, but under the black veil is a soul who needs release and freedom. In the venue, only women and children are allowed to enter, and there are separate fitness spaces, leisure and entertainment spaces, and private outdoor venues inside for this purpose. At the same time, the overall architectural style returns to the early dome building and arch design, achieving the effect of looking quiet and peaceful from the outside.

SHELL+CIRCULATION

GARDEN+URBAN LOBBY

SHELL: The design of facade is to simulate a stone that is being weathered, just like a stone in the Middle East desert. The reason for using stone as the architectural concept is that the stone metaphors that in the cultural area where the base is located, the phenomenon of gender inequality is like a stubborn stone.

GARDEN: Two gardens are designed in the two diagonal spaces of the building, one serving all visitors and the other specially serving women's spaces. These two gardens not only provide a different landscape during the journey, but also provide a space where people can come into contact with green plants in the urban environment.

CIRCULATION: Double-layer skins are used for the facade, and the traffic space (stairs) and balcony are designed between the double facades, which can ensure uniform evacuation and sufficient balcony space for use as an outdoor spaces.

URBAN LOBBY: On the second floor of the building, there is an open atrium, a lobby for women's spaces and food shops along the street. The open atrium is designed with water adjacent space and some seats. This space can be used as a leisure space for urban residents and visitors for free, as well as a place for Internet celebrities to check in, thereby attracting more people to this mall .

ROOF GARDEN: The design of the roof garden provides a space for urban residents to touch the green and undertake gatherings. This design also provides a green roof for the building, which effectively avoids indoor overheating, thereby achieving energy-saving effects.

The female space is a space specially designed for local women. In this space, only women can enter. Therefore, in this space, women are free to be themselves, wear their favorite clothes and fashions, and enjoy their own entertainment, so that they don’t have to Too much restrained by the local culture, no need to wear the black robes that the local compulsory wear

SHADE: Above the roof garden, a sunshade with local cultural patterns is designed to effectively reduce the daylight and provide a comfortable space for people to gather.

Project III Coastline Resort Group Work

03/2020 Design Instruction Weihai is a tourist and convalescent resort city located on the coast of Shandong, so the original goal of the site is to build a leisure and entertainment landscape space along the coast.
