001 golden horse poster in past

Preface

In recent years, the primary visual design and the overall aesthetics of the Golden Horse Awards have been a focal point of discussion. Consequently, I aim to employ artificial intelligence for data collection and analysis, simplifying the pre-production process significantly. This will enable users to recreate the iconic Golden Horse style poster design and format with ease.

In the front-end, we utilize the relatively basic neural network plugins from LunchBox for block classification operations. On the back-end, we employ Pug to summarize and regressively analyze the color schemes and tones used in posters. This process generates the AI-derived poster color palettes and design forms and assists users in reappearing the visual and surrounding design of the Golden Horse Awards with utmost simplicity.

002 Pre-Production 003 Example for Classification

Procedure

To begin with, I classify the past Golden Horse posters into blocks within Rhino and predefine the desired poster format. The segmented poster areas will be calculated using ReLU and genetic algorithms, considering factors such as area, aspect ratio, and relative positioning. In the color regression analysis segment, I utilize the SL Agent in Pug to systematically dissect and analyze it.

From Kelvin to RGB

As AI operations involve estimating and predicting a single output using one or multiple inputs, and since colors in Grasshopper are typically represented in RGB or hue, obtaining a suitable set of values for effective regression analysis through these operations has posed a significant challenge. I considered using the concept of color temperature to convert colors into numerical values within the visible light frequency range for this purpose.

Following the sequence of operations and analytical calculations described above, a value ranging from 0 to 1 will be generated. This value can then be transformed back to the RGB format either by adjusting the Gradient component's Preset in Grasshopper to display color temperature or by applying a formula solution. Discrepancies may occur between the two calculation methods primarily because the conversion of color temperature to RGB through the formula lacks precision and relies on extensive data regression analysis. As color temperature only encompasses the visible light spectrum, subsequent human interventions can provide a more effective representation of the prediction for the Golden Horse's aesthetic design.

Posture analysis

Work Type Academic, Individual Course Fundamentals of Design II / NYCU Autumn 2022 / Ling-Li, Tseng 08

Project Information

This project aims to encourage the observation of the human body and reimagine postures and gestures to stimulate creativity within spatial design. Following these guidelines, I found inspiration in my recollection of "Naruto," a popular ninja-themed anime. In the series, there are a set of gestures used to harness the power of nature, each named after the twelve earthly branches in Chinese culture. Thus, I envisioned a space where people could interact with.

Interactions

Fully immersing in the process of gesture observation, I discover that there has different temperature on different part of hands. In the result, I combine the temperature difference and the earthly branches to create a different angle for twelve gesture that can make sunshine or lighting interact with the space according to different time defined by earthly branches.

Introductions

I want to transfer the painting “ New York City I ” from 2D to 3D sculpture. When translating into 3D sculpture, I want to keep the scene of the original painting.

So I transferred the three colors into my impression of New York City: yellow to taxis, red to phone booths, and blue to the mirror reflections of skyscrapers.

At the same time, with the last phonebooth in New York City being demolished, these threes also represent the past, present, and future of New York City.

001 Original painting of New York City I

For the three representations of New York City I, I make the red one a rigid frame for phone booths, and the blue one a glass window. For the yellow one, I want to emphasize the dynamic sense of taxis, so I make it from lines to circles, which can keep the scene from the top view and present the dynamic of taxis simultaneously.

Project Information

This project hopes that we will extend our imagination using a flat nine-square grid as the initial, and gradually develop from graphic design to three-dimensional space interaction. For this, I started from the point view of points, lines, and planes, and first split the nine-square grid into 16 points. Then, combined with my knowledge with the computer science, I used the way of computer interpretation and calculation of two-dimensional arrays to rebuild the plane. In the process, I connected the points with lines in a similar way to the circuit diagram switch concept, starting from the upper left corner of the nine-square grid and deducing all the way to the lower right corner through the calculation method of the logic gate.

When transferring into a 3D model, I want to keep the variability and mobility in the 2D sketch. Therefore, I made one of the support walls on the first floor a sliding door and made other walls can be move so that people could change the space to what they like.

Wear Folder

In today's landscape, renters often reside in apartments, or family-style houses. They seek to maximize the square footage of their rental spaces and enhance the cost-effectiveness of their accommodations by minimizing unnecessary space usage.

To alleviate the sense of spatial congestion caused by opening and closing wardrobe doors, we use sliding doors. The internal storage space is comprised of modular cabinets that can be easily detached. Users have the flexibility to choose and arrange these cabinets according to their specific needs. This approach eliminates the inconvenience of a one-sizefits-all wardrobe design during production. The space beneath the wardrobe is left open for users to utilize according to their preferences, unconstrained by the wardrobe's structure. Here, individuals can place plastic storage boxes, laundry baskets, and other items as they see fit.

In conclusion, our furniture design aims to meet the evolving needs of individuals living in limited spaces. By offering a modular, customizable solution that maximizes both storage and usability, we provide users with the tools they need to optimize their living environments and enhance the value of their rented spaces.

"Allow users to determine the method of utilization of the wardrobe."

In an era marked by persistently high housing prices and the trend of young individuals relocating to rent homes away from their hometowns, optimizing space utilization has emerged as a paramount concern.

We aim to redefine the conventional furniture concept, making it highly adaptable to individual user preferences and habits.

The Saturn

Introducing 'The Saturn,' a contemporary lighting design. This innovative ball-light seamlessly merges modern aesthetics with a lightweight steel structure, making it a compelling choice for creative spaces alike. 'The Saturn' represents the harmonious fusion of form and function, striking a balance between sleek design and enduring durability.

In my daily life, I engage in creative problem-solving by conceiving and designing solutions for the challenges I encounter. For instance, I've designed a mobile phone case, featured on the right, which incorporates a dual functionality for the phone's flashlight. While mobile phone flashlights are primarily used for photography, they can be unreliable sources of emergency lighting. To address this issue, I've developed a phone case that allows users to easily switch between flash and flashlight modes via a simple buckle mechanism, enhancing the flashlight's usability. Additionally, I've designed a handheld lamp, depicted above, that seamlessly integrates into daily life with its elegant and functional design. This lamp offers an intuitive and convenient handle, facilitating easy illumination in various settings. Furthermore, it harnesses the interplay between light and temperature, enabling users to adjust their ambient temperature to suit their mood and comfort requirements at any given moment

Campus Curation

Others

In this proposal, I am responsible for the conceptual design of the curation. I believe that many students at NCTU struggle to effectively communicate or engage in face-to-face discussions. Therefore, I have conceived the idea of creating a mobile projection exhibition hall. In this hall, individuals can submit their ideas both online and on-site, enabling exhibitors to engage in discussions. This approach allows for the prompt collection of the school's votes and opinions on campus issues, significantly enhancing administrative efficiency
