The pre-release orders were so large that the album instantly hit number one and is widely regarded as one of the most memorable albums of all time. The Sex Pistols would continue to surprise and entertain crowds for a long time. They helped open the doors for the next generation, offering youngsters a much-needed identity and a way to express themselves. They opened the music industry in the same way as an open tin can, turned the upside down, and then left. This was helping to create the conditions for indie music to rule the world and also let record companies be aware it was set for a major transformation.
