The Life That We Like

Trust

Trust. A word? An idea?

A thought? A feeling? What is

it really? Well, for the proud Riders of

the PNP, it is considerably more than just

that. To them trust is the glue that forms their bond.

A bond forged and strengthened by all the

adversity they had to overcome during the

short period of their training. It only took the

Riders an astonishing 45 days to build up this

bond, which they all knew was to be vital

during their tour of duty.

That said, it took a great amount of effort

from each individual Rider to earn their

teammates trust. To many, the mere thought

of having to socialize with complete

strangers will leave them in a state of

panic, but for the Riders, they not only

socialized, they bonded. Through

only 45 days of training they have created a unique and special unbreakable

bond. A bond strong enough that they

would trust each other with their lives.

Through the experiences they shared,

an unspoken pact was made - a pact

of brotherhood. They knew, they can

always rely on each other when push

comes to shove. They knew they would

carry this pact till the end of their times,

whether they pursue a career in the HPG or not.

Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you..." ~ Liam Neeson, Taken The success of the MCRC-Kris laid heavily on the shoulders of a group of Tigers. These Tigers hailed from different parts of the Philippine peninsula, gathered at the PRO ARMM campus, and for the next 45 days, accomplished what some would call "Mission Impossible".

Tiger Rayan Ador was the Course Director and made sure that everything went according to the training's Standards and Procedures.

Tiger Nelson Dano was the Lead Instructor; Tigers NiĂąo Khadjafi Salilama, Gail Gines, and Alexis Ubagan taught them Tactical and Skills; Tigers Abdulrachman P Dicay and Mubarak C Pacasem taught them Safety; Tigers

Jonathan A Patriarca, Resty L Panilag , and Paul Ian Baisac were the adept Mechanics.

These Tigers exercised their authority well. They weren't there to slave drive the team, they were there to teach them sets of skills in an authoritative, but effective way. They had to take into consideration that Maguindanao was a Muslim dominated region so they had to adjust to the people, respect the culture, and still do the jobs they were asked to do.

There were a good number of trainees to begin with, but as the training progressed, the number of trainees started depleting until only 74 remained. These veteran Tigers took it all in stride.

Tiger Pacs had this to say about the MCRC training: "The MCRC training, I believe, is the best in the PNP because you can still use this skill even when you are no longer in the service. We teach them to be disciplined Riders. We made sure to push them to their limits because we want them to be the very best they could be."

On the day of the Final Jump, the Tigers felt nervous, tensed, but excited to finally see all their hard work pay off. This was the first MCRC training of it's kind in Maguindanao, and it was surely a ride to remember!

So powerful and encompassing.

Its meaning goes beyond its length.

TANDEM means partnership. It is a relationship between the bike and its Rider. One is mechanical and the other is human, but together, they form a perfect symmetry as they traverse their way with commitment, consideration, trust, respect, high morale and teamwork that glue them to delivering a perfect ride to their ultimate destination.

THE GRIND Forty-five earth rotations and bang! Welcome to the jungle!

DAY ONE marks their

reception as a trainee in the Motorcycle Riding Course.

“Roar-less” and tender learners still, they were welcomed in an orientation where they had a ballpark figure of how they can rate themselves to fare in the program.

From eighty-two to begin with, seventy-four painstakingly survived the Motorcycle Riding Course held in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. This kind of training made its debut in the region with the outstanding support from the Regional Director.

Motorcycle nomenclature takes the lead in the formal part of learning. Motorcycling is a verb. It is actionpacked. It is a continuous motion from the time a Rider gets on the bike, fits the key to the hole, grips the handles, steps on the foot pegs and ride towards a destination. Here, they are geared towards being knowledgeable of the parts and terms that relate to the world of motorcycling.

An exercise where they wiggle in a squat position was done to practice their hips for it to jive with the motorcycle movement when actual riding is done.

Slalom is moving in a winding path where obstacles are placed for a Rider to avoid.

This is taught to develop flexibility, proper gas control and correct movement of tight maneuvers. Bunking is done on a fast-paced straight direction with the Rider using his hips and waist to control the motorcycle. This is practiced to evade traffic hazards on the roadway and during dangerous situations. Confidence riding was done with drums on both sides of a narrow path. This is to

exercise appropriate riding and passing safely in between columns of motor vehicles in motion along the road.

M otorc yc le c ras h s u b je c t ignites instinct development reaction when motorcycle slides while in motion. The rolling log is also an instinct development reaction activity as well that is experienced when a motorcycle slides while traversing parallel logs. Bridge crossing is practicing to cross a straight fourteen-foot plank with a height of approximately two and a half feet. This is to refine individual riding stability and counter dangerous conditions.

Tactical marksmanship aims for a Rider to familiarization firing, tactical and defensive firing during direct action and high-risk situation while aboard motorcycle. Inside Camp Training is the constant practice for the Riders to familiarize themselves in the use of a motorcycle.

VIP Escort Technique subject focuses on a single, double, staggered position and leap frogging. Highway or city driving and night driving is aligned to accustoming the Riders in the use of a motorcycle and develop riding skills while steering during dark hours.

Summing up all lectures and physical exercises, the Riders will now be ready to be ushered to the climax of the riding course, the Final Jump. They get acquainted with an Enduro bike that springs them to achieving their goal. Here, their courage will be levied to its maximum for them to take on the ramp to being a guardian of the highway. "ARE YOU HIGH MORALE?" PNP Regional Director for ARMM, General Reuben Theodore Sindac asked the Riders after their Final Jump on April 24, 2017 at Camp Pendatun, Parang Maguindanao.

General Sindac, or RD as he is addressed by people in the camp, rode through a parallel training in 2011 and earned his right as a distinguished Master Rider. Asked if he could still execute a jump, RD humbly smiled and said: "Been there, done that".

Factors which demand his presence has made riding a rare pastime. However, he encourages everyone in the service to take the course as he certainly still recalls the zest of life found in the saddle.

He expressed his thoughts on the instructors, trainees, and the course with high regard.

The routines done customarily prepared the aspiring Riders for a higher level of training. He added that it was ‘a must’ to follow through with the drills. There were no possible ways to cheat as it will only cause more difficulty on the trainee’s part to deliver. He spoke highly of the Tigers who headed the training. They were passionate in instructing the trainees and exercised their authorities effectively, yet safely.

His presence in this event was an obvious gesture of his strong support. It was with his best intention to hold this training in the region to show that there was peace, order, and goodwill amongst people in this part of the country. (Julie Calvez)

#FearIsR NO GUTS, NO GLORY!

After going through a long stretch of rigorous and paramount training, this is D-Day for the 74 hopeful Riders! Garbed in camouflage, tactical boots and helmets, they valiantly headed for the field where they met their final verdict erected in a six-foot ascent. Hearts thumped yet it echoed unbroken spirits from the Riders. The “Antigos” exhibited their skills as they took the bikes to ignite excitement and jumpstart a trend of good jumps. The piled tires stood like a mighty edifice ready to challenge each Rider’s backbone.

Customarily, nine tires, each a foot high, are piled up to create a slope that is intended to be the Riders’ final test. After deliberation by high ranking officers, the elevation was reduced from a nine-foot mountain to a six-foot hill. The gesture was their way of showing respect and honor to the officers. Though it is thrilling to see bikes fly higher in the air, obligations, and

responsibilities for the general welfare of the entire force is still a priority.

The “Final Jump� is their ultimate snag to attaining a Rider's Badge. Randomly called to take on the handles, they crossed the green fields to mount their bikes. The thunder of their bikes reverberated throughout the grounds as they wheeled towards the tiered tires. They tightened their grips, twisted the throttle, and let the bike soar into the air before reuniting with the ground. A failed first jump can be fixed in the next face-off with the ramp.

The ability to outstrip the ramp is not a talent born overnight. Hard work, patience, stringent focus, and discipline were invisible badges sewn on their camouflages. With the perfect fusion of speed, grip, and posture - landing without crashing is the definition of a perfect Final Jump.

He reached for his bag, pulled out his place card, and sat it on the table. It read ‘Colonel’.

He was 13, and this school project had got him thinking, steadily building up a dream, adding fuel to it. Big dreams on a miniscule frame. It didn’t hurt to dream, and dream he did.

That was 30 years ago.

Present Day Senior Police Superintendent Chris Dela Cruz, dressed to the nines in his starched blues, marched smartly up to the PRO ARMM podium, shook President Duterte’s hand firmly as he graduated from the MCRC-KRIS training program.

If there is one thing that Chris knew about, it was getting things done with flair.

When he first thought up the idea for this program to be held at ARMM, it was just that - an Idea. However, getting it done in real life was hard work. The channels he had to go through to get the green light weren’t always in his favor. In spite of all the road blocks, he never gave up. When PNP issued motorcycles to ARMM, he floated the idea that if they didn’t train their guys, the bikes were going to be unserviceable in a year. They needed to know the proper maintenance and handling. They agreed with him and the training began.

In high school, he’d spend his free time helping his parents at their fruit stall and taking his father’s dinosaur bike on a joy ride. When he was on that bike, he felt as if he were riding a Harley Davidson. Graduated Criminolgy at 19, he had nowhere to

(cont...) #MrToughGuy go because in order to get a job in the government, he had to be at least 21 to work. He decided to join the academy instead. His career choice has taken him him on many different assignments.

He worked with SAF, became Chief of Police (COP), and volunteered as a UN Peacekeeper in Timor-Leste. When he came back, he became a budget officer to 3 units, a position he currently holds as a financial officer.

Chris made the impossible happen and the MCRC-Kris training was held. With already 20,000kms of saddle time on him, he thought that the training was going to be a piece of cake. Boy, was he wrong! He had to change his mindset and forget everything he had learned on YouTube as a newbie. He had to embrace the riding technique that were being taught. He was scared at first, but when he saw the guys doing it, he told himself that if they could do it, so could he. He had doubts, but he trudged on. Each time he jumped, there was a split second when it felt as if his soul left his body. It’s a thrilling, spiritual high.

“It’s the lack of confidence that will get you in trouble.”

Colonel Chris Dela Cruz, 04, wasn’t voted Mr. Tough Guy for nothing. He wanted no special treatment as a senior officer.

He did everything that was being offered from the beginning to the very end.

He is tough, charismatic, and a Go- getter.

Everything that he has accomplished so far in his life has testified to that. He needs no special introduction in his circle. They know him for who he is. A good hardworking man. From nothing to having everything and still going on to greater heights - this man is an inspiration.

This is a man’s world – or is it?

Within the massive, sprawling green grounds of the PRO ARMM campus, excitement brewed, tension built, crowds of people gathered, all to witness and celebrate the last jump of the 74 HPG Special Training Group. The trainees, clad head to toe, in full camouflage uniforms, protective gears donned, and white helmets shimmering in the sun, stood in precise line formation. All equal under the burning sun, all badges earned, all 74 Riders.

But wait! We haven’t gotten to the juicy details yet. Out of these 74 trainees, there are 4 women who dominate.

These women have stuck to this program right from the beginning. They refuse to be measured and defined by their gender, and have carved out their niche as equally and superbly as the men.

Meet these four courageous Riders.

Rider PCINSP EVELYN E. VILLANUEVA “The Asset”, a nurse by profession, served in the PNP hospital before deciding to apply as a new recruit in the police force.

She started off as a non-commissioned police officer in 1996. Starting from the lowest rank of PO1, she raised in ranks and currently holds the position of Police Chief Inspector, an equivalent of Major.

Rider 09 jumped at the chance of joining the Riders Program when a colleague suggested it to her. She was hesitant at first, because it was totally out of what she was familiar with, but then after more coaxing, she finally gave in. Her only experience then was riding a small motorcycle.

With beads of sweat gathering around her temples, she talked about the grueling process of getting to where she is now. Getting up in the wee hours of the

morning, going for a run around the PRO ARMM campus, tackling the tedious Riding Position to strengthen her core muscles, the scrapes and bruises.

It wasn’t easy, but was it worth it? Yes, it was.

45 days later, she was handling big bikes like a boss.

Rider 09 is an asset to her team. Not only is she a force to be reckoned with, but when something goes awry during the practice, she’s the first on the scene. Her training as a medical professional has benefited her team essentially. Her dependability has gained her the admiration and trust of her fellow Riders. They all concede that she is the toughest female Rider on the team.

head on. When asked if she regretted anything, her reply was a resounding No. “I never regretted joining this program. I love challenges.” This program has taught her discipline, time management, and values on how to treat people.

Her motto in life is: Be simple, be humble, and respect one another. She practices what she preaches.

Nothing is too daunting, too difficult, or too much for this feisty, vivacious Rider. In spite of everything she has achieved so far, she remains humble, giving credit to God for everything good that He has made possible in her life.

She strapped on her safety boots, strapped on her gears, and got on that motorcycle. She painstakingly, sometimes frustratingly, but nevertheless determinedly, learned how to balance on a motorcycle for the very first time. It took her exactly one week to learn that skill. Her dogged persistence finally paid off, and the rest was history. She is the very definition of a Dare Devil!

In her own quirky, shy way, she laughingly said, “I have kissed every soil, court, and grass in this campus.

I came away with bruises, and was swelling in places I refuse to name, but I did it.”

As it stands, she has broken the record as being the first female HPG member in her province of Cagayan de Oro, Region 10.

From not knowing how to ride a bicycle to manning big motorbikes – we best listen up when she talks about courage.

Rider PO1 CHINIRETH ANNE B. TESORO “The Fledgling ”, fresh out of college in 2015, made the pivotal decision to join the police force. After graduating from the PSFTP last August of 2016, she started training for the PNP Modified Scout from October to December where she was assigned as an Admin PNCO ASST. of 2nd MC.

“I HAVE KISSED EVERY SOIL, COURT AND GRASS IN THIS CAMPUS. I CAME AWAY WITH BRUISES, AND WAS SWELLING IN PLACES I REFUSE TO NAME, BUT I DID IT.”

It was difficult from the get go, however, she stuck to it. This training taught her how to conquer her self-doubt, and by doing so, she fell in love with the highs and lows of riding.

Perseverance has brought her thus far. Injured thrice, she got up and did it all over again, day in and day out, she pushed on. At 23, she has accomplished so much, and is to be commended. With a bright future ahead of her, we’ll be keeping Rider 80 in our scope.

“THEY SAY RIDING IS A SKILL, BUT IT COMES WITH GREAT PERSEVERANCE.”

These courageous women, who cover their curves beneath their camouflages, and wear their hearts for the people on their sleeves, are an encouragment to everyone out there. They define courage, perserverance, and strength of character on a whole different level.

What an inspiration! It can’t get any better than this.

Quirky. Funny. Witty.

You’d be surprised that these traits describe him to a tee. You’d be even more surprised to learn that for more than half his life; this man has worked in a profession not many has dared to take up.

Rider 01 is lionhearted PCSupt Rodelio B. Jocson.

Off the ramp, this hero has been a frontline in battlefields.

He has been an instrument of peace and justice for the country by upholding the rule of law. Being the lone General in this troop, he has worked hard in the training and proved that his title will not be his vehicle to obtaining any sort of special treatment.

He has equally trained and completed the drills aligned towards acquiring a Rider’s degree.

“Sir Jocs”, as he is also known, has been a vessel of safety for the whole batch. Colleagues regard him with high respect and are truly honored to have him in the program. As one of the Riders said, “Malaking karangalan na may kasabay kaming heneral sa training na to. Nakakapagpalakas ng loob at hindi ka pwedeng basta sumuko kasi yung heneral nga lumalaban ako pa kaya?”

On the day of the final jump, fear had no place in this General’s desire to conquer the heights.

Equipped with guts, armed with the right training, and crutched with support from all around, Rider 01 got on his bike.

Sir Jocs was in his highest spirits as he circled the field to ascertain the right tempo, squeeze and timing he needed to defeat the ramp. When he finally felt everything was right, he maneuvered his motorcycle and took the upward slope confidently. He made two mind-blowing jumps worthy of a General. He was so fly!

He was not an exception to the helmet-relay. After two home runs on a motorcycle, he had to chase his headgear as instructors passed it on to one another as a congratulatory gesture for a successful jump.

As a Rider, this General, rocks! As the man in the force, he rules! Whatever the play, just lay him the game.

t began with a smile. Her sweet smile that threw him off balance; that twinkle in her eyes that seemed to hold a secret. Their eyes caught…and held, and for a moment there, it’s like the world ceased to exist, and it was just the two of them among a sea of people…err, oops, correction, among a sea of police officers.

This is their story, Rider 30 Orlan and his lifelong his training, witnessed when he got hurt, celebrated his partner and wife, Rider 46 Liddy. triumphs, and empathized with his lows. She was there, every step of the way. Not only as a fellow Rider but as a She is from Cotabato, and he was from Sultan friend and a lover.

Kudarat; they first met in 2008 in PRO ARMM. As new recruits, they were classmates during their PSBRC and towards the end of their training, as fate would have it, they fell in love and eventually tied the knot. Fast forward… they now have Sofia and Edsali Adziz. They have made a life for themselves as a family. ~ Rider 30, PO3 Orlan Mante

“KUNG KAYA NI MISIS, KAYA NI MISTER.”

Orlan, sitting on the grass, a sheen of sweat coating his face because he had just finished his final jump, got down to business. Without mincing words, he told his story, as simply and as matter-of-factly as he could.

His eyes looking into the distance, he went on in his calm and quiet voice, describing the MCRC program.

He loved it. You can feel the adrenaline still coursing through his veins, hear the quiet excitement in his voice and sense the emotion that embodied him.

That moment right there, that Final Jump, was what the 45 days of pain, sweat, and hard work had boiled down to.

Liddy, perched on a chair, listened attentively to her husband while he spoke, adding here and there with tidbits of information he had left out. You could see the pride and respect in her eyes as she looked at him.

She understood how he was feeling because as an HPG personnel, she was mandated to undergo the same MCRC regime in Davao City a couple of months back.

Already a Rider, she had been with him all throughout

He summed it up nicely with those words. Why not do it when the opportunity is here? Why not seize the day? It was time to stop asking why and “Just Do It”! Sometimes, all a person needs is someone who will believe in him.

Someone who would wake up in the morning and say “Honey, don’t give up. You CAN do it.”When a man has his family beside him, a daughter who is his number one fan, a son who just simply loves his daddy unconditionally, a supportive wife who will ride through the storms and calms of life with him, he is set.

This is what the two Riders have. Now, all they need is a Harley to ride into the sunset together.

The day began with a long motorcade from Maguindanao where instructors, fellow comrades and other supporters tailed the Riders. They endured the scorching heat as they took to the winding roads. Modest towns stood as witnesses to this camouflaged group of bikers who powered their way in style with their slaloms.

Housed for a night in a mango-grove haven in Sultan Kudarat, the Riders prepared themselves for the ensuing MCRC Acceptance rites. The Acceptance Ceremony commenced immediately after all Riders were complete.

The sound of laughter echoed through the grounds of the resort. Cheers and clapping spoke loudly of the merriment happening behind the walls. Loud splashes resounded over the gathering dusk only to find the full-uniformed Riders happily submerged in a big pool.

The pinnacle of the event was when each of them were given the spotlight to declare his and her rites of passage as a full-pledged Rider.

This was a moment of crowning glory for the Riders who had braved the forty-five day MCRC indoctrination. A chorus of shouts rang out, signaling the finale of the Acceptance practice.

All seventy-four Riders made their way to the banquet hall where a sumptuous spread was laid out for them. Some were tired, and groggy, but all were happy, filling the hall with the din of their voices.

Finally, after everyone had had their fill, the Riders dispersed one by one. Some didn’t want the night to end yet, while some crashed at the nearest comfortable spot they could find. It was an eventful day and a memorable evening.

All in a day’s work.

Irene, the “Dare Devil” was voted as The Scariest on the team. She didn’t even know how to ride a bicycle when she joined the MCRC training program. She now handles big bikes like it’s kid’s play. On a Friday night, she prefers to stay home, put her feet up, and rest.

Little things make her happy – she loves strolling when she’s not training and eating Ginisang Sardinas with tomatoes. She likes to get her groove on with pop music and sports.

Al Mohsen likes to spend time on his days off in his barangay biking with fellow bikers. The most fun thing he's done during the training is the City Ride and the Long Ride. He loves Filipino food. His hobbies include bicycling, reading, and joyriding. He, like many others, would like to meet Liza Soberano.

Mohamad enjoys beer busting with his classmates.

Just because he's a cop, doesn't mean he can't let loose once in a while on his days off. The cool thing about Mohamad is that he taught his kids the Rider's Exercises. He enjoys good native Filipino food. He also likes to cook, read to his kids, play basketball, sing karaoke, exercise, and have a nice family day at the beach.

Abdulmajed is one with a strategic mind, he has a talent for playing chess.

One of the more classic board games,chess, requires thinking ahead a step or two over your opponents, winning is no easy feat, with games lasting hours. The mentality of keeping your mind sharp over such a long time is something not everyone has.

Mohammad is very secretive about what he does on his days off, but he's most probably out playing basketball and singing, or sitting down to his favorite dish of Kinilaw and Balbakwa.

You'll hear him singing his favorite song, ‘The Question’ while he's at work. He enjoys nights at the karaoke, cooking, and visiting the beach.

Mohammad's exotic tastes in food will astound most people. His snack of choice, difficult as it may seem to comprehend, is “fried tipaklong” or fried grasshoppers. Traditionally a Vietnamese street food, this Rider has developed qu i te the t aste for it .

Outside his interesting taste in food, he also said that his favorite song is Batibot.

Tohami likes to keep it physical and loves to keep his body healthy. With constant exercise and the occasional hike, he is a person who does not let fatigue slow him down, in fact he embraces it. What we wouldn’t give to be as healthy and motivated as him. Riding is what he likes to do for fun, and when he's really got nothing else to do, he watches ‘Ang Probinsyano’.

Mohammad is the resident cinephile of the Riders, he has a passion for the motion pictures. From Hollywood to the Filipino scene, he has watched them all.

Outside of training you’re most likely going to catch him seeing a flick. This Rider would like to meet Noli De Castro, if given a chance.

Jeffrey is all about the Ride. His hobby is his motorcycle, and he is happiest when he is on it, riding the rolling hills of Cotabato. When asked what he could see happening in the future, he said he just wants to be "Relaxed and Retired but still Riding". He is a very prayerful man, so it's understandable that the only man he would like to meet is Jesus Christ. In a matter of time, Brother Jeffrey!

Philam Jay isn’t one to shy away from voting himself as the prom king.

As royal as he is, he enjoys spending his off nights at home, cooking up a storm of Pinoy food in his kitchen from sun up to sun down. His past time when he’s not out exploring Mindanao, is spending hours at a time behind a computer screen playing video games and listening to his favorite OPM songs.

Junie enjoys bonding with his family. He looks forward to family outings, playing basketball, and the occasional dinner out with family memb er s. H is favorite food is chicken adobo. Taking a long bath while listening to country songs after training is something he really likes to do. Who doesn't? He has two people he'd most like to meet: Sarah Geronimo and Bea Alonzo.

Coconut milk, potatoes and carrots, chicken and of course, the key spice, Curry. Nothing warms Zainodin’s heart and makes his mouth drool more than a delicious helping of piping hot Chicken curry, homemade of course.

For someone that enjoys being a health buff, we hope you don't overdo yourself with Chicken Curry - unless you're okay spending extra hours working out?

This dude is definitely more of a dog person than a cat person but he would not mind having both as pets.

A Rider who is making moves to be more active in the millennial world. He is a fan of playing online games. Albert doesn't want to be left behind since online games are making a headway in today's world.

He said that the craziest thing he's done is gnaw down a toothpick during the Final Jump because he was a nervous wreck at the time. The one thing he's always afraid of is an unexpected error. A perfectionist to a certain degree. This sweet man wants to be the "salt and light" to others.

How does boiled goatskin sound? Okay, now let's add some vinegar? Still NO? This time, add a va r i et y o f spi ces like some chilies and onions...

In all honesty though, you had this Rider at goatskin, he just loves "Kilawing kambing" or chopped goatskin and will come running at a chance to get some.

Datumama loves to listen to countr y songs and makes sure to belt hearty notes out in a karaoke hangout. When it comes to food, Dinengdeng makes him happy. He also thinks Donald Trump has “nice hair �.

Who knows, maybe, just maybe, they could exchange some hair beauty and grooming tips one day .

Tony enjoys his leisure time watching his favorite TV shows. The VIP he would like to lead is the Mayor of the Municipality of Buidon, Maguindanao. He is not on any special diet but he does mind what he eats avoid the bad, take in the good. His dream as a kid was to be a policeman.

Look at him now!

On his off days, Nasser likes to give his family a break and take over the kitchen. Fun for him would be as simple as having a good time with his family. It is kind of cute to know that this Rider is a f ra i d o f frogs. He recalled that the birth of his eldest son was his happiest moment. The one person he would want to meet would be Chief PNP Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa.

Jonathan found 'beer b ust ing' t he funnest activity in the training.

He'd vote his wife as prom queen and himself as prom king in a heartbeat.

His favorite food is fish and vegetables. No wonder he is so healthy!

A very fierce Rider, but on his off time, he is actually very zen.

Spending most of his time in the garden - he enjoys tending to the needs of his flora. His garden-tending is his way of relaxing and his only time to observe the going-ons around him.

Kevin wouldn’t be caught dead watching a telenovela. He enjoys chilling, surfing the net, reading, watching, listening to music, playing basketball, and hiking.

When he gets hungry, he likes to chow down on some juicy baby back ribs. If he could only meet Liza Soberrano – h e co u l d h ap p il y go towards the light.

Michael regales the troops with stories of his training.

He loves to share stories of his experiences and talk about the hardest activities he's done during the training - the Reception and the Acceptance. He would also occasionally talk about the Induction party, where he cheered from the sidelines shouting “slide” or “bali” while his classmates did the “otsootso”. What a riot!

Kennet h has got his priorities all right. On any given nights off, he likes to cool down with a couple of ice cold beers and head bang to rock songs. He enjoys family time when he's not on training, either at home or at the beach.

The craziest thing he said he's done in the training would be the malatuba exercise. He still hasn't gotten over that one.

Al-Nasser is not a complicated man. He loves his Chicken Joy and Sinigang. He likes to relax with his favorite song, "Faithfully" by Journey. H is song re affirms the fact that everyone wants someone to be theirs faithfully.

Musakkal looks forward to time offs to make up for the important things he missed. He also spends a quiet night at home praying. He plays tennis and the guitar, and his favorite song is ‘Salamat’

This Rider just gave a whole new definition to the "worklife -balance concept" while - at work.

Living in Mindanao, it can get pretty hot, and that’s when you realize the value of a good bowl of Halohalo. When Rider 47 isn’t d o i n g o f f i ce wo r k , h e can b e fo un d pl ay i n g badminton and hoops with the guys. Sometimes, he just likes to lay back, listen to his favorite song “Dance with My Father" by Luther Vandross” and do some light reading.

Tentererentententen! This Rider not only aims for a hundred in his duties but he also aims for the ever so elusive 100 score in ever y song he sings in karaoke. What Melvin likes most ,though, is being a dad - you can find him hanging out with his kid at any given free time.

Almosaiki enjoys riding.

He's not shy to say that he'd vote himself Prom King. He likes to play basketball, musical instruments, and singing.

The person he'd like to meet is his soulmate. Of cour se, who else? H is favorite food is anything t hat 's laid out on t he table. Good thing he's not a picky eater.

Can you imagine eating raw fi s h dre n c h e d i n vinegar? And if you’re wondering, there is also an assortment of spices and vegetables included in this dish. Kinilaw can be considered as bizarre to most people but not to Orlan, he craves for it.

Stephen is an avid NBA fan. He doesn’t just play basketball, he follows the American professional scene with passion. On weekends, he catches up on all his missed NBA news, from group stages to playoffs. Stephen also said that his most embarrassing moment during training was when he was punished and had to carry 3 donuts one at a time - for what - he said: "For him to know, and for us to find out!"

For Jeffrey, nothing beats sleeping in on a Saturday morning, especially when he's been training hard during the weekdays.

He's an avid DOTA player.

His hobbies include "Anything that makes him sweat." He rests early at night to wake up early in the morning all presumably to undertake another day of sweating it out.

In this day and age, not many people read for pleasure. Some may believe that reading takes up much time and effort.

This is not true in Gani's case. Gani loves reading and said that reading has had a meaningful impact on him and has greatly enhanced his life experiences as well.

Herbert is a polymath, the ' Renaissance Man' in the team, a man of many hob b ies, t a l e nt s a n d interest s. H e i s we l l balanced and welleducated in lots of different areas. He takes joy in all the little things and just love doing them all.

Mewyn is what we would call a Romantic Musicophile with love songs as his listening preference while going for long countryside drives. He draws his joy from behind the wheel.

Whenever or wherever, give him a machine on wheels and he'll show you how it's done. A true Road Enthusiast.

Like most of the guys on the team, Anwar treasures family time on his days off. The activities that he found challenging were Bridge Crossing and the Final Jump. The craziest thing he's done on the training was jogging with his helmet on, it gets pretty hot up in there. When asked if he was on a special diet, he said No. He loves to eat anything placed in front of him. His hobbies include driving and cooking.

Fortissimo is his voice when proclaiming his love for music. From using the natural instrument - that is his voice - to other instruments as well. Music is a past time that he can share wit h ever yone, especially with his kids.

Music is an international language and Rider 79 is fluent in it.

Joey is a true Filipino at heart with his love for any Pinoy food. When not eating Filipino dishes, he takes time to chill with friends and family over a game of “lami kaayo ang bugnaw nga beer”.

Renato likes to relax at home & watch movies when not at work. During training, the hardest activity for him was the MC Jump, and the most fun was the otso-otso/islalum & islalim. Renato injured both his ankles while on training, but that didn't stop him. He said that he would like to pursue the HPG and fulfill his career as a police officer and a guardian of the highway.

He loves basketball, reading, and listening to his favorite song, "Old and Wise" by Alan Parson.

Clarice, the“Strong Woman”, enjoys passing time watching movies and listening to love songs.

When she’s not on the field, she’s on the court having a friendly tennis match. She loves cooking and dislikes the thought of dieting. Her favorite dish is anything seafood.

Her hobbies are as cool as she - mountain climbing and mountain biking.

"Taga Antipolo, pero 100% Ilonggo na hindi marunong mag Ilonggo.

Pero pag natikman mo ang lambing ko, siguradong bablik-balikan mo."

Erwin is an all-around fun guy. He makes no secret of the fact that he is a family man through and through, after all, his hobby is “hanging out with my wife and kids”. He’s got a way with words, and he knows how to use it.

Nhok enjoys sports so much. He's a machine on and off the court. From Basketball to Biking to Swimming. When he has extra time, he enjoys Movie Marathon nights.

His favorite food is Tinolang Manok. He said that his most embarrassing moment was the nose dive on the Gradual Jump - he survived it - and that's what matters. The person he'd like to meet most is Valentino Rossi.

The words aptly described his feelings during the MCRC graduation, which w a s b y t h e w a y, h i s happiest moment during the training.

Ramsoding enjoys spending time with his family for outings. The hardest and most fun thing he had to do during the training was the Final Jump. His favorite food is Sinigang. His favorite song would be "Wonderful Tonight". The things he likes to do for fun is playing basketball, biking, and exercising. The one person he would like to meet is President Duterte.

Hiking is not a past time for all. O t her s find it tedious, to some, boring.

Not to this Rider - hiking to him is quite literally a walk in the park. He enjoys the physical aspect of the task & the sense of accomplishment after completing a hike.

Samsodin puts a great deal of importance on spending time with his family and catching up on the fun things he missed out on. For this family man, the ever multi-ethnicity Filipino cuisine, Sinina, tops his list of favorites. Sinina is a traditional Muslim delicacy that is usually served during festivities or what we normally call “Kanduli�.

This Rider also has his priorities right saying: "Gwapo man sa iyong paningin, wag knang umiling, dahil wla knang magagawa kundi ito'y tanggapin."

Marlon is your typical laid-back guy, he likes spending his days off giving gratitude for a wonderful week. On the days when he isn't training, he is out on the field working. His hobbies include counting stars, eating nuts, and mountain climbing. Heaven for him would be the beach and barbecue parties.

Rider 32, Amir, is from the battlefield Town of Datu Piang. He said that the town did seem to have picked itself up, as evidenced in media. He also mentioned that he used to think that he was non-existing to most people but after taking the MCRC course, he realized that he's built enough confidence to deal with any kind of personalities. "I felt that this course gave me a bit of everything I wanted knowledge, skill & confidence.. I love the challenges of the training and most of all I love MCRC Class 10."

Samuel loves to either ride his BMX bike or explore the underwater world through SCUBA diving.

He definitely has no fear of the unknown, or what lies beneath and in fact wishes to go on a diving expedition all throughout t he ent ire Philip p ine Waters. Certainly one wish t hat we would encourage!

They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so thank goodness that Rider 29, Benjamin has an uncomplicated palate. Sinigang na kambing and Chicken adobo would do the trick. In regard to the MCRC training, just like everyone, Benjamin found the Bridge Crossing and the Final Jump the most challenging.

Nasrullah also found the Acceptance and Final Jump the hardest, while the Reception the most fun part of the training.

If given the chance, he would gladly pursue the HPG. He enjoys singing, gardening, playing musical instruments, exercising, and going to the beach whenever he can.

The smell of sand and sea is not a stranger to Chinireth.

This Rider chooses to be adventurous in her downtime, preferably by the beach. A swim here and there to wash away her week-long work. Chinireth i s a l so t he youngest member of the MCRC KRIS team but swore that she was never pampered during the entire stretch of training.

Cristy likes to stay in on weekends. When he's off training, he likes to take his Super 4 out for a ride.

The hardest activity he did in the training was Log Rolling, the most fun was the Final Jump. His favorite food is Kilawing Pugita. Some of his hobbies include sport activities, playing the guitar, and cooking. If given a chance, he would like to meet Chief PNP Bato.

Adel is from Kuta na Bato and believes that “A "Journey to a thousand miles begins with..... a simple throttle." Rider 11 is a self-proclaimed couch potato - he likes nothing but to listen to slow rock and ballads and tunes in to ‘Ang Probinsyano’.

Evelyn is The Real Deal.

Voted as the toughest woman in the MCRC-Kris training - she can hold her own any place, any day, and at any time. She also had the majority votes for Prom Queen. Let her take her rightful place on that throne. She plays badminton, table tennis, and is a marksman in shooting competitions. When it comes to embarrassing moments, we dare not mention it. The person she would most love to meet is Jacky Chan. Oh Yes!

Jhames is one Rider with polar interests. He mixes his introverted qualities with his extroverted ones.

While he is very pleased with staying indoors and reading books; he is also amused with the things he can do outdoors. If there was one thing this guy is doing right, it is the fact that he would vote his lovely wife as prom queen and himself as prom king. Hail Dexter!

Paul likes to keep busy on his days off - busy chilling and sleeping, busy eating pinakbet, busy taking a bath, busy playing sports, busy traveling...let's just say he's a BUSY man. For this busy man, the craziest thing he did on the training was being "preoccupied" during a jump which could have costed him dearly.

The VIP he'd like to lead is the Queen of England and the person he'd most want to meet is Bill Gates. Two very interesting choices for this busy man.

Mohammad, on his days off, is on his bike for a motor thrill. The funnest time during the training for him was the Long Ride. He's not afraid to admit that he is afraid of what lurks in the dark. We have to give him points for honesty.

When we asked Louie what was the craziest thing he's done in the training, he quizzically replied "All?" - This Rider in particular is not picky as to which sp or t he p lays. He enjoys perspiring and making sure that he keeps his body fit and sound for any training.

His form of recreation always have something to do with sporting events.

Ruben is a very hard working man. Not only is he a full time policeman, but he also tills his land. On his days off, he goes to his farm and checks up on his Cacao Nursery.

When Friday comes calling, he takes time for himself, resting up and watching TV. The person he would like to meet most would be the PNP Chief.

SPEEDWAYST RS Leadership Award

It's of no surprise to everyone that Rider 04, PSSUPT Chris Dela Cruz, snagged the Leadership award. Despite his rank, 04 insisted that no special treatment be given to him. No surprise there, he is always up for a challenge.

Throughout the entire training, his constant presence was a positive reinforcement to the team as a whole.

He was an equal that everyone looked up to. Salute!

Best Rider Award Rider 39, Cristy Quitor Valmoria, from Parang Maguindanao was awarded the Best Rider Award for the MCRC-Kris CL 10 - 2017. To be awarded Best Rider in this program is an honor reserved for the best of the very best. A Rider is only as good as the Tigers who trained him and he drove that fact home when he earned this Award.

A man of humble beginnings, he knows when to give due credit God, his family, the Trainers, and his classmates. He survived the MCRC Training, the Final Jump, and the Acceptance. Rider 39 is going down in history as one of the most accomplished Riders in the MCRC Program. Kudos!

Best Jumper Award Rider 79, Epream Paguyod, from Tabuk, Kalinga Apayao, was awarded the Best Jumper Award. The Jump is the hardest part of the training but he made sure to squash it with everything he had. He had no prior training, but he loved riding motorcycles which made him a natural in the saddle. While soaring in the air, it was the voices of his two daughters that kept Rider 79 grounded. The thing about Jumping is "You must conquer fear to perform well."

Somewhere along the way, that was exactly what he did. Soar high, Rider!

Most Improved Rider In the MCRC-Kris team, there are two Riders worth mentioning, Riders 24, Irene Aguirre and 17, Jude Cebrero. They belonged to the Dimaru team.These two Riders proved that anything is possible if you just have the heart for it. From not being able to ride a bicycle to earning a Riders Badge, these two got awarded the Most Improved. The Dynamic Duo Do or Die!

BRUTUS A Soft Tale

Rider 04, CHRISTOPHER DELA CRUZ

Last June 2016, I paid a former boss of mine a visit in his home in QC. He had requested that I come over to advise him on what to do with an aging motorcycle collecting dust in his garage. Since it was no longer running and because he desperately needed extra garage space, he wanted the old motorcycle disposed of. I obliged since I was turning into a motorcycle junky myself. It was there that I first laid eyes on Brutus. He was, no doubt, a man - a 2006 Peace Officers Harley Davidson Heritage Softail. It was love at first sight.

The moment I saw Brutus, I immediately knew it was for me. Brutus used to belong to Sir Jesse "Bigote" Versoza, an old-school Tiger who has no need for a lengthy introduction. So now, you have an idea on how the scoot got its name. I offered to restore the machine until it was road and market worthy. However, in the back of my mind, I already knew that I was keeping Brutus for myself.

Brutus had worn out tires, a dead battery, a clogged fuel pump and stains all over its chromed body.

The bike had seen better days. I called up Marvin, a friend of mine, to come give Brutus a look over.

Marvin owned five Harley Davidson collectibles and swears he would never sell them. He'd know more about Brutus than I would.

We pulled it out of the garage, brought it to the Ronin's lair and started the works.

It took us a little bit over a month of restoration to

bring Brutus back to its former glory. It was now ready to Rock and Roll. I have never enjoyed riding a motorcycle as much as I do with this bike. I've gotten a few good offers for Brutus, but I don't think I'll sell, at least not yet. I'm sticking with him for a while. It was my love for Brutus that pushed me to pursue a Rider’s Badge. A huge chunk of riding metal needs special skill and training.

On top of that, 1400cc is enough reason to make it a dangerous hobby.

The MCRC Kris Class 10 - 2017 has raised my riding skill and confidence to a higher level. Now, I intend to live long to ride longer.

The guttural, yet thunderous cries of his engines roared and crackled along the dusty streets of Bacolod city. His machine, a scent of diesel fumes, boiled polish and hot metal wafted in the wind. He was a blur of black and silver as he raced by, burning asphalt, and playing tag with daylight on the back of a Harley Davidson. He smelled like a HOG, and he looked like one too. Silver hair clasped back at his nape, white goatee on point, black hog vest worn as an armor. His name? The Vince Velasco.

He was blazing through the long streets of Bacolod, getting as much saddle time as he could when a group of ninjas on motorcycles appeared out of nowhere flanking his Harley. They called out to him to join their convoy and being the adventurer that he was, he happily obliged. Dressed to the nines in their white helmets, camouflages and black combat boots, they were a sight to see. They gave him the special treatment of a VIP, guarded and protected him like a dignitary. He was a lone rider, a civilian, but fate had crossed his path and a new story begun. One that told of the MCRCKRIS, long rides on the road, and heroes who put their lives on the line for civilians like Vince.

Vince was impressed and a little bit intimidated to be in the presence of the PNP force. The longer he stayed in their presence though, the more he got a better picture of these group of riders. They weren’t just people in uniforms. They were law abiding enforcers who were disciplined and confident in what they represented.

After lunch, they rode to Camp Navarro where he witnessed a little bit of the Rider’s Course. He was shocked that even though it was 12 noon, and the sun was at its highest, the Riders got down and dirty with exercise drills, ranging from pushups to stunts on the motorcycles. “Whoa! 12 o’clock!

And they were doing pushups on the grounds!” The discipline and determination that Vince witnessed was so awe-inspiring and it garnered so much more respect for these individuals.

From Camp Navarro, they took a “roro” to Batangas where they were welcomed by PSSUPT Chris Dela Cruz. By then, Vince had already made the acquaintances of General Sindac and Colonel Ador and was a bit at ease now. They rode to Chris’ house in Lipa City where they had a quick lunch over conversations ranging around motorcycles, the training, and the ride. They had to move quickly though, and so the convoy made their way to Camp Crame, Manila. It was there that he met General Gardiola. The fanfare, the fun, the ride, and finally the Rider’s final showcase in Crame - Vince witnessed it all, and it changed his perspective on so many things. One of them being, the affirmation of what these people in uniform stood for. It was a good day in Vince’s book, but like all good stories, there is an ending.

Vince had the time of his life. Meeting the MCRC-Kris Riders was an unplanned honor and he reveled in it. It is indeed true that the world was meant to be seen on the seat of a Harley Davidson.
