E-Newsletter from ZED WOODS - July 2014

WOODS WATCH Into its Last Leg... Greetings again to all ZED Woods members. As we had the last few days of completion of ZED Woods, I can see that further editions of WoodsWatch will acquire a new tone beyond the listing of project activities to the activities that we ll urge you as residents to be taking up. The little work that was left on the external nishes is now nearly done at ZED Woods. Those of you who are not residents here will notice that on the east road, toward the end there is a spot of work that needs to be completed on the rampdown and access to the basement. You are aware that the east road is entry access that directly takes you to the far south side and into the basement once this part of the work is completed. This should be done before July end.

Another exit for vehicles

The west road is complete. Even as I wrote this, I saw our colleagues cleaning up the debris and cleaning up the west road. That west road will be the exit road taking you right out to the exit point of the ZED Collective campus. You can also exit from the access at the Clubside that takes you back to the west road and to the gates at the road end. You must remember there's a likelihood that, some day, you'll have direct access perhaps to the Peripheral Ring Road which is mapped to be on the stud farm side and may o er you access direct to the PRR

when it comes about. It s a part of the city plan. We have no knowledge of when, though it is a matter of time. This campus west road will be ready for use by July end. In the future, we'll request you to exercise caution on speed on this stretch of about quarter kilometer since there may be children on the campus roads. We will put in a couple of speed breakers and warning signages to ensure you are alerted.

Of physical green

The podium landscape work is nearly done. The shrub, ornamental, medicinal and aromatic plant species have come in. And the rains have come more importantly, though the monsoons arrived late. We should have closed on the completion of this landscaping in the next couple of weeks as scheduled.

backup system that's being installed this week. There will be the grid connection that will happen by about mid- or end-August. This work had begun with the BESCOM o cials many months ago. There is some bit of work that the state utility needs to do on the erection of a couple of systems at the main transformer outside. This work is in progress.

Twice in the last six months we had the challenge of copious water entering the basement area. Our engineers assure us that, with the help of some professional consultants, the water management system has been put into place to ensure there's no such ooding in the future, ever. I have reconnoitred the area and as an engineer myself it looks good for the long run.

The fresh water treatment system is working ne, and we will be initiating a basic protocol for regular, periodic quality tests as a matter of high hygiene, health and safety for residents. This is not part of commercial obligation from ZED, but we are doing this as part of our policy of achieving beyond the norm. In every campus of ZED the fresh water treatment systems have produced excellent results. ZED Woods won't be an exception.

There has been some discussion on the kids' equipment with a few members who are discerning and participated in the process of selecting the right stu . We hope to install them in a way that we are able to put them in before July. The basement is looking neat and we will be looking for some re nements on the signages. We shall do this in a week or two. The power situation has been balanced out with another power

The sewage treatment system and the campus connections for it are in progress. This work should be completed in about a week or 10 days from now. A set of experts have been working on the ltration systems and related things. Of course, the ZED sta will be maintaining these systems in order to ensure that there are no challenges for the campus and its residents.

More new members to the Woods fold We have had four new members who have joined the ZED Woods family in June. They should be moving in soon. There are only six places that are now left open as options go. Three of them are studios. We expect about 20 families to be moving in at the minimum in the next two months. This is the indication we have received from our chats with them. We are also happy to note that there has been some camaraderie between and engagement with members of the

ZED Collective families in this elite neighbourhood. We did observe in our earlier WoodsWatch editions of the pains that those families had to go through, just as some of the early settlers at ZED Woods have in the last few months. Those pains will heal as the dust settles down. We had promised that the housekeeping elements will start kicking in at ZED Woods. We are working on it. We want to bring this in as soon as the little bit of engineering work is completed in this week and the next.

Upper Attic Values to kick in soon As we wrap up 'project work', it is time for us to start thinking of the upper attic values of ZED that needs to be brought in. It would be useful to start the campus meetings in a way that we are able to re ne more of these challenges of 'going eco' on living and occupying green at the campus. I'd urge you to read Zediquette, the ZED Energy Etiquette manual that was given to you. If you don't have it, you could request for a copy. It'll change the way you look at life and living. I promise you!

Into and from the next edition, we will bring you a set data log on the energy e ciency that each month means in terms of consumption of energy, of water, and of waste disposal and management. We will also bring you matrices of the indirect energy elements and the carbon absorption advantages that the campus provides in terms of its active use of energy elements.

Yes, Nothing like it in the World! You should read this The Hindu report of June. On the path-breaking, rst-in-the-world system of treating sewage water to drinking water that we have at our world-acclaimed TZED Homes. Please click to read.

Prize it, Cherish it... It may be useful to remind you that ZED Woods is one of the very few Platinum rated apartments in India today, which are completed. The number doesn't go beyond 10 in the entire country, although the number of certi ed green buildings on their design intent is as much as two billion square feet. The other projects are all underway, while ZED Woods and ZED Collective are two campuses that qualify at the postconstruction level. ZED Woods secured as many as 67 points on

the Platinum rating by the CII-Indian Green Building Council, which is the premier certifying agency today in India. You have the privilege of living or owning a property in a very rare creation which presages the future. We hope you prize it, cherish the opportunity, make the most of it and join hands with us actively in making ZED Woods an exemplar of urban living.
