FROM THE EDITOR • 2022: Much to be thankful for By: Art Singer, EIC (ZCCM), Albuquerque Z Car Club 2021 was a blur for me. I can’t believe how fast it went. Not sure if it was the virus or just getting older that made it zoom by as if it never happened. The last two years have tested everyones patience and hopefully Covid-19 will start fading away in our rearview mirrors. I wanted to take this time to thank all of the people and Z businesses that have helped keep ZCCM up and running these past 8 years. Wow, has it really been 8 years? And I thought 2021 went by fast. I’ve been able to keep this going due to finding cost effective ways to make it pay for itself. As many know, there is no real money to be made in producing a Z car only magazine. I remember back in 2012 when I decided to start this project, my first call was to “Mad” Mike Taylor. I wanted to get his opinion on starting another Z magazine. The first worlds out of his mouth were “Art, are you crazy.” After about an hour of explaining how I was going to produce another Z magazine where all others had failed, he believed I could do it and was willing to support my effort 110%. If he had said that I shouldn’t waste my time, I would have walked away right then and there. So for everyone that enjoys ZCCM, you have “Mad” Mike Taylor to thank for it. And I myself want to thank Mike for all his support with both the magazine and the ZCON book.

As most will notice, this is not an advertising driven venture. I’m thankful for the handful that do advertise. ZTherapy, Bad Dog Parts and Motorsport Auto have been advertising since day one and are still supporting my efforts today. I would also like to thank Nissan, FutoFab, AMS, ZCarDepot and Zedd Findings, who in the past four to six years have also been strong supporters of ZCCM. Z Clubs are a big part of what makes the magazine go. I want to thank all the clubs that have been supporting the magazine since the beginning including: Desert Z Association (DZA), Windy City Z Club, Indy Z Club, Bluegrass Z Car Club, Albuquerque Z Car Club, Z Association of New York (ZANY), Triangle Z Club, Cleveland Z Club, Z Car and Roadster Owners Club (ZROC), Oklahoma Z Car Club (OKZCC), Middle Tennessee Z Club (MTZC), Z Club of Texas (ZCoT), and the Z Car Club of Washington (ZCCW). Without them, this magazine doesn’t exist. Individuals that have helped along the way and that I’m very thankful for all that they do in supporting the production side are Nelson Ackerman, Miles Hall and John Moran. Again, thank you for all your support. I will continue putting out new issues of ZCCM until it is no longer enjoyable for me. Right now, I’m still enjoying the ride!

EVENTS • ZCON 2021 Extended Coverage By: Art Singer, EIC (ZCCM), Albuquerque Z Car Club With ZCON 2021 in the rearview mirror I still had a lot of photos that captured the experience. It was nice to see such a great turnout considering all that has happened these past two years. It was also great to have a convention so close to home for the first time in many years. I wanted to take this time to thank Pam Kirmeier from ZTherapy Inc. for helping with getting some great photo shots throughout the week along with Miles Hall who volunteered to write the main article for the event in the previous print issue of ZCCM. It was great to see a lot of familiar faces that included Pam Kirmeier and Steve Epperly from ZTherapy Inc. Was able to spend some time throughout the week with them (haven’t seen them in person for quite a few years). They have been an advertiser along with Motorsport Auto and Bad Dog Parts ever since ZCCM launched back in 2012. Looking forward to ZCON 2022 in Birmingham, AL. The event will be held the last full week in July and as always, I expect that everyone that attends will have a great time. And with all that we’ve been through, it will be well deserved.

was back on track for 2021. With Covid-19 cancelling just about the entire year of 2020, it was nice to see some annual events come back to life. Along with
ZCON 2021, SEMA had the look and feel as if life was finally getting back to normal. There were some suttle changes from SEMA’s past, including mask wearing and long lines to get on the monorail to and from the Las Vegas Convention Center due to social distancing. This year, modified Supra’s and Corvette’s were everywhere. Attendance was down making it easier to traverse the many isles of the convention halls. Normally, it’s so packed that you spend most of your time walking sideways trying to get past the crush of humanity. With the new West Hall of the convention center now open, there were many more indoor displays added to the size of the event. Nissan’s booth was located in this area. There were just a handful of Z’s and GTR’s on display throughout the show. Nissan’s booth turned out to be quite the attraction with a movie star and Nissan dignitaries in attendance. As luck would have it, I was in the right place at the right time. 12

The Nissan booth was the place to be at SEMA. Making an appearance was Sung Kang, the actor who plays the part of Han Lue in the Fast
and Furious movies. This was the highlight of the convention for my daughter Sam, as she was able to meet the actor and get a picture taken with Sung. On display along with the new Z was his own 240Z. Hiroshi Tamura, the Chief Product Specialist (CPS) of the Z Proto and next Z, along with some Nissan dignitaries stopped by the Nissan Booth making for a nice photo op. SEMA also had a Monday Reveal for the new Z making it my third Reveal in a year and a half to be in attendance.

TOYO Tires booth was the place to be if you were looking to see some nice Z’s on display. In all of the SEMA’s I have attended, this was the first time seeing three generations of Z cars in one location. A series one 240Z is commonplace at SEMA. You can normally find a handful scattered throughout the show. But I’m pretty sure that this was the first time that I have ever seen a 240Z, a Z31 and a Z32 on display at one booth that wasn’t a BRE or drift car. In this day and age, it’s rear to see a Z31 or Z32 at SEMA. Cudos to TOYO Tires for bringing an awareness to two generations of the Z car to SEMA attendees.
