CREATIVE SCHOOL NEWSPAPER from MACEDONIA This CRETIVE SCHOOL NEWSPAPER is result of E-twinning project.

The project the main goal is to create a school newspaper with some creative extra content. It is an international project in which a number of different European schools will participate. Each school will create its own newspaper although the creative process will be collaborative. At the start of the project the partners will agree on the newspaper contents, which will include topics such as Where are we on the European map?, Our country, Our famous people, Our school (basic data and description), School location (history, tourism, legends, stories, buildings…), School activities (presentation of school projects choir, drama and art sections…), Our customs and traditions, Brain teasers (fun page, crossword), School research (questionnaire on some predetermined school-related topic, such as my favorite food, cartoon/ movies, class, etc.). Each newspaper will have an enclosed DVD containing a video of the school - together with additional contents typical for the school, place or country in question (pupil-made souvenirs). The newspapers, when completed, (together with the DVDs) will be sent via post office to every partner school for reading and analysis.

DID YOU KNOW THIS ABOUT MACEDONIA?  Mother Teresa (Agnes Gondza Bojadziu) was born in Skopje on August 26. 1910. She died on September 5, 1997. 





Macedonia is not a province in Greece, but a Balkan country, although parts of Macedonia can be found in Greece and Bulgaria. 

September 8, 1991 is the date when Macedonia proclaimed independence from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.



The Pesna Cave, near Makedonski Brod, as described in New York Times, is identical as the imagined caves in the trilogy Lord of the Rings. 

Vardar is the longest river 388 km long, flowing sluggishly and cutting Macedonia in two.



2,764 meters is the height of Golem Korab, the highest peak in Macedonia.

Macedonia is cradle of the Slavic culture and the Cyrillic script. St. Clement of Ohrid developed the Glagolica alphabet the masterpiece of his teachers Sts. Cyril and Methodius and name it Cyrillic in his honor. 

120 dolls in Kuklica, near Kratovo are 10 milion years old. The entire location is known as Stone Dolls of Kuklica - a very rare monument of the nature. 

Macedonia produces more than 135 milions litres of wine, 150 milions litres of rakija and 850 milions of beer per year, with a population of sligthly more than 2 milion.

One of the Titanic Survivors was a Macedonian.

Stojko Dodolovski, from the village of Chucher (Skopje area), made a last second purchase of a ticket to the Titanic from a British priest. When the ship started sinking Stojko jumped into the ocean.

He swam towards few of the rescue boats, but was not allowed to climb aboard. Stojko stayed calm and floated on the ocean until one of the rescue boats came back to look for survivors, several hours later. Stojko was one of the 12 survivors picked up.

The oldest lake in Europe and the deepest in the Balkan's - the Ohrid lake is 4 milion years old and has more than 200 endemic species.

According to NASA, Kokino is 4th on the list of oldest meghalithic observatories in the whole world, right after Abu Simbel Egypt, Stonehenge Great Britain, Angkor Wat Cambodia. However less known is Cocev Kamen near Kokino 4 milion years old and more contemporary than Kokino.





The oldest tree in Macedonia is the Platanus Orientalis in Ohrid. Whether a coincidence or not, the tree is growing since St. Clement of Ohrid period, in the 9th century.

The Macedonian city of Ohrid is the oldest on the planet, most recently featured on ultra famous US show “Jeopardy”. The Ohrid lake itself is over 3 million years old. It has over 200 endemic species not found on any other place on the planet. Apart from its ancient theater (which is still in use today), the ancient Ohrid (called Lychnidos : the City of Lights) boasted a classical agora, gymnasium, civil basilicas and temples to the Gods.

Pelister is the third largest National park in Macedomia located on the Baba mountain is located in the southwestern macedonia and a smaller southern part of massif extends into Greece. The mountain is southernmost massif on Balkans which has Alpine character.Very beautiful are two high laying glacial lakes called “gorski oci” or eyes of the mountain.Baba is also well known after beautiful, five needle, Molika Pine (Pinus Peuce). Molika is autochthonous tree.It is one of most interesting biogeographical and vegetation phenomena on Balkan.

Mavrovo National Park encompasses the most beautiful parts of western Macedonia. “The historical and scientific significance of the forests and wooded areas around Mavrovsko plain, the specific landscape and the natural beauty of the region, the diverse flora and fauna and ethnological characteristics” Mavrovo lake is the largest artificial lake in Macedonia and is a part of Mavrovo National park. An additional point of interest is the half- submerged church in the middle of the lake about which the locals says that the saint and the God`s power do not allow for it to completely disappear in the depths of Mavrovo lake. On the mountain slopes there are several villages with original and specific architecture , Rostuse, Jance, Gari, Selce and many others. Especially interesting are the customs performed during the celebration of the Orthodox holidays Vodici, Vasilica, Epiphany, Easter, and especially the wedding ceremony. The famous “Galicka Wedding” , held every year in the village Galicnik in July is one of the most attractive customs in Macedonia.

The National Park Galichica is situated on Galichica mountain which belongs to the Shara – Pind system of mountains.

The Park is situated between two biggest Macedonian lakes, Ohrid and Prespa. National Park Galichica has very rich and various flora- more than 1000 herbs, some of which are relics and endemic. Cultular and historic monuments, worth mentioning, are St. Naum monastery, church Mother of God Zaum, cave church St. Stephen, the island Big City (Macedonian tsar Samuel`s place) etc.

NATURAL BEAUTIES

Matka and Treska canyon are located in the lower course of river Treska, 15km southwest of Skopje. With it's geological, geomorphological and hydrological characteristics, and the flora and fauna, it is an exceptional object of nature. The ground consists of thick layers of over one bilion years old carbonate rocks and somewhat yonger slate carbonate, rocky masses.The caves and abysses as special categories of late geographic forms are mainly concentrated on the right side of the canyon, under the area Visoki Rid(High Hill)on 885m attitude. There are about ten of them, but most know is Vrelo , which is considered, after researches in 2009 , as ine of deepest underwater caves in Europe.

Believe it or not, there are about 150 waterfalls in Macedonia, most of them concentrated in the western part of the country. One of the greatest waterfalls in Macedonia, the Smolare waterfalls, is located at the junction of the borders between Macedonia, Bulgaria and Greece, on the slopes of the Belasica mountain. It is one of the biggest waterfalls on Belasica and it is said that there are at least five more waterfalls, hidden in the mountain. Smolare is the only waterfalls whic is accessible,but the only way to arrive there is by walking. Nestled within the foliage of Belasica mountain, above the village of Kolesino, is the Kolesino waterfall. With pure, clearvwater from the Baba river, the Kolesino waretfall gently flows over the hillsade in a beautiful and rhythmic ballet of multiple watery streams..

The Reka region is located in the western Macedonia, between Mavrovo and Debar on one side, and the border with Republic og Albania and Kichevo area on the other. People from Reka are famous fresco-painters, wood carvers, and mosaic-makers. It is interesting to point the fact that in 1920's there was a pipeline that was transporting the milk from the bigger villages to the diaries. Cheeses and hard cheeses from the Reka region, using the Thessalonica Port, were exported all the way to North America.

CITIES IN MACEDONIA

The town of Ohrid is located on the shore of Lake Ohrid, 695 m height above sea level, at the very south of Macedonia.

The Lake Ohrid region has been an important center of culture and learning. This monument town is a cradle of the Slavic written language and literature in the 9th century, spread over the rest Slavic peoples first by the brothers Ciril and Methody, and later by their pupils. Combined with its scenic lake and mountainscape, interesting town and village architecture, local hospitality, climate and delicious fresh food, a visit to the Ohrid area will deeply rewarding. Tsar Samuil fortress – Until 1018, Ohrid was the capital of the first Macedonian state and where Macedonian Tsar Samuil (976-1014) built his fortress who dominates the town. St. Jovan Bogoslov (St. John the Divine-at Kaneo – 13 centry) – one of the landmarks of the old town of Ohrid and favourite symbols of the entire city.St. Naum – (29 km from Ohrid, town)dedicated to St. Naum of Ohrid. St. Sophia church – 11 centry – the largest and most magnificently preserved monument of church architesture in Ohrid and Macedonia with unique and well perserved 11 th century fresco painting.

Bitola also known as the town of the consuls. Bitola is an old city situated in the southern part of Pelagonija Plain. About two kilometers from the center of the city, like a large statue from the time of Filip II of Macedobia stands the ancient city of Hersclea. Pelister mountain is found on the outskirts of Bitola. The name of Milton Manaki is written in Bitola's history.

He was the first film camerman in the Balkans starting to shoot with his camera in 1905. Bitola had great buildings representative of the Ottoman period. These include the Bezisten, the Isac Mosque.

Kavadarci a town in the Tikves valley lies at an altitude of 280m above sea level. The city of Kavadarci is well known and famous by its vineyards, all over Macedonia and in European countries, as well, where the Tikves wines are exported. Tikves lake is located 12km south-west of Kavadarci on the River Crna or 3km from the village Vozarci. The lake was developed in 1968 (represents the oldest artificial lake in Macedonia) Tikves lake is the largest artificial lake in the country.

CITIES IN MACEDONIA Kumanovo is the biggest city in the north east part of Macedonia. One of the most important sites located near the Kumanovo is the 4,000 year old megalithic astronomical observatory of Kokino,located 30km northeast of Kumanovo.

Kratovo is a small pisturesque town in north-western part of Republic of Macedonia, and know as one of the regions ''living museums''. Once there were 12 towers, but today onlu 6 towers have remained. The Kratovo bridges are another characteristic of this town made by old masters.

Situated in the Malesevo Mountains, in an area known as ''little Switzerland'',in the eastern part of the countru, there is Berovo.Due to the specific of the region, Berovo is well know forvits potato and the white cheese of Berovo.

The Malesevo region is full of pine and oak trees, which is why Berovo craftsmean are well known for their skill in traditional wood crafting......

Struga is situated on the northern part of the Lake Ohrid, on the both banks of river Crni Drim. The city is located just 15km from other, more famous city Ohrid. Struga is the capital of poetry and one of the cradles of the Macedonian spiritual revival in the 19th centry. Here, one is charmed by the source of the river Crni Drim, which flows into Lake Ohrid and runs across it, only to emerge again with its cler and greenish water. Struga is an important tourist resort on the shores of lake Ohrid. Struga is the capital of poetry each year since 1962, in the second half of August, the very popular Struga Poetry Evenings have gathered poets from all the continents. The Struga Poetry Festival is one of the oldest, largest and most renowned od its kind in the world. It includes a spectacular poetic event, entitled „Bridges“, where poets read their work from the bridge under which the river Crn Drim flows out of lake Ohrid.

Strumica, one of the biggest cities in Macedonia is situated in the valley of Strumica and it is the mejor cultural and economic center of south-estern Macedonia. The traditional Strumica Carneval blends together the old traditions, the ethnological specifics of the region, the talent and humor of the people, the past, present, and future, into one manifestation that has proved to be an important tourist attratction for the city of Strumica. In 1995 Strumica became a member of the Federation of European Carnival Cities (FECC) and in 1998 it Hosted the FECC annual meeting.

CAPITAL CITY OF MACEDONIA

Skopje is the capital and the largest city in the Republic of Macedonia but also a political, economical, educational and cultural center. The history of Skopje is about 2000 years old. Its origin can be traced back to the ancient city of Skupi.It was and it is settled on the roads that united Western and Eastern civilization. The Stone Bridge- on the river Vardar,symbol of Skopje. It was built in the 15th century and gives access to the old part of the city where one can find many cultural and historical monuments.

The Millennium cross- Since the yearnof 2000 the citizens of Skopje, from every part of the city can see the Millennium Cross,that symbolizes 2000 years of Christianity.

The Mother Teressa memorial house is dedicated to the humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mother Teresa and his located in her hometown Skopje, in the Republic of Macedonia. It is a modern, transformed version of Mother Teresa ‘s birth house and has a multi functional, but sacreal character. Inside the house, part of her Page 8

REGIONAL ATRACTIONS

Almost, within four decades, with small interruptions, on St.Peter’s Day(12 th July), an attractive tourist manifestation called “Galichnik wedding” is held – unique of this king in our country and wider. “Galichnik wedding” in its existence contributed to cherish tradition of the wedding customs and rituals of the inhabitants from the region in order to preserve the original folk songs, horas. All the year,great number of wedding customs will be performed and swoon on Galichnik wedding day such as:expecting of the drums, mother – in law’s hora, taking the bridal to the village fountain for water, hanging the wedding flag, invation of the deaths,shaving the don – in – low, to bake the bread, wedding in the church St.Peter and Paul and coustoms dying slowly but which contain and hide many details from the Galichnik man’s life in the past. There is nowriiten evidence to precisely date when the Vevchani carnival wast first held but according to tales transferred by word of moth from generation it has existed for 500 to 600 yr.

As a remnant from pagan times the carnival contains erotic elements and elements related to fertility though often times at also has elements of modern satire. Traditionally it is held every year on the night on January 13 th These two days and one night give a specific mark to this region as the number of people wearing mask and costumes is above 1500 and thesuite these participants make up is almost 2 km long. Since 1993. Vevchani has been member of the European Association of Carnival Towns. Strumica carnival has a tradition of 3 centuries although it is believed it originanates from ancient times. After a longer period of neglect the carnival was reestablished in the 1960’s. Its place under the sun was confirmed when in became part od the European Association of Carnivals in 1995.

Macedonias, like many other nationality groups, have special days and celebrations throughout the years. The origins of these celebrations were the orthodox Christian holidays. Christmas (Kolede, Badnik I Bozhik) The Christmas celebrations begins on January 5th, the evening, know as kolede. Children go from door to door singin Christms carols and receiving fruits, nuts and sweets from the people.The following evening is Christmas Eve, when traditional oak log (badnik) is brought to the family hearth. This log is cut by the male head of the household and the older son, while the table is being set for the Christmas Eve fast supper (Posna veccera). ARCHEOLOGICAL CITIES

The Ohrid Fortress is one of the largest preserved fortifications in the Republic of Macedonia. Its massive ramparts and towers surround the entire summit of the hill of Ohrid. The Fortress both served as a defence against enemies and an inhabited area know as Samuel's Fortress. During the rule of Samuel(976-1014), and of his successors, up to 1018, Ohrid was the capitalof the first state of the Macedonian Slavs.

Heraclea Lynkestys near Bitola got its name from Hercules, the legendary hero anf father of the Macedonian royal dynasty of the Argeadae. Heraclea Mosaics Mosaics were found in numerous buildings near the large basilica but the most interesting of the new mosaics,remarkable.

Analyze has show that the stone markeres are built in the decades around 1800 B.C., meaning the Megalithic Observatory Kokino is at least 3800 years old. American Space Agency NASA and in 2005 this agency ranged Megalithic Observatory Kokino on the 4-th place on the World's Ancient Observatory list.

Lychnidos is an archeological site located in Ohrid. In the region of the highest peak, near the Samoil's fortress can be found a lot or interesting mosaics and other various stuff. In this part of Ohrid were discovered many ancient building such as tomb, found under the streets.

Sv. Jovan Bigorski (St. John Bigorski) monastery is dedicated to Sv. Jovan Krstitel (Siant John the Baptist). It's located on the road between Gostivar and Debar, in the beautiful valley of the river Radika among the villages of Rostushe, Velebrdo, Bitushe and Trebishta. The monastery is named Bigorski, because it is made of tufa (tufa in Macedonian is called Bigor). The monastery is also famous for the Icon of ''Sv. Jovan Krstitel'' (St. John the Baptist) which is believed has a mysterious power. The Icon was found by the monarch Jovan in the year of 1020, on the same place where the Monastery was built later on, and it was floating over the river Radika. The monastery is famous for its iconostasis the most beautiful one on our country.

In the proximity of the town of Kriva Palanka, north – east of part Macedonia, on the slopes of the mountains of Osogovo,nested in-between the thick and green forest, elevated at 825 meteres above see level, the monastery of St.Joakim Osogovski counts its centuries. It offers the possibility to feel how past and history live together in the present, it plunders with its spiritual, architectural and artistic esthetics and values.

Marko's monastery belongs to the group of the most important spiritual centeres in Macedonia, fulfilling its role as an important scriptorium in the medieval period. The monastery church dedicated to St. Demetrius is located in the vicinity of the village of Susica, on the left bank od the river Markova Reka, about 20 kilometeres from Skopje The restored St. Clement`s church at Plaosnik (archeological site),, in Ohrid represents one of the most important monuments in Macedonia.

St. Clement established a university, also known as The Ohrid Literary School and educated more than 3,500 disciples who spread throughout the Slavic world and continued his work.

But as the Ottoman Turks penetrated in the Balkans, they turned many churches into a mosques.

That is the reason why St. Clement, built his church on this place and he dedicated to the protector of the health, St. Panteleimon. Only a fragments of the frescoes of this church are recovered.

RECIPES FROM MACEDONIA

The land of sun is the land of the tastes. Macedonia is the land of the gourmands and true fans of a good meal.

From appetizers, main dishes, salads to desserts, Macedonian cuisine can offer numerous traditional dishes for every taste. The traditional Macedonian cuisine combines Balkan and Mediterranean characteristics, inherited largely from Turkish tastes that prevailed during long centuries of Ottoman rule, then our neighboring Greece, and to some extend Italian and Austrian cuisines, which makes it a heterogeneous.

The traditional Macedonian cuisine is reflecting Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences and it is noted for the diversity and quality of its dairy products, wines and alcoholic beverages such as rakija. The primary food on the Macedonian menu that stews, is mixture of meat and vegetables cooked by simmering. Stews are prepared spicy, combined with roux (a thickening agent), and always eaten with bread. Other main staples are feta cheese; roasted banana peppers; and zelnik, a flat pastry with cheese, leek, or spinach filling. Supper is the most important meal of the day, often eaten less than an hour before retiring for the night.

Macedonian cuisine is full of tasty specialties which are mixture of meat, vegetable and spices, and traditionally they are served in pottery dishes.

The basic food products that are used in Macedonian cuisine are: beans, milk, yogurt, cheese, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, peas, onion, apples, grapes etc. Macedonians eat also pork, beef, lamb, chicken and fish. National specialties include: kajmak, smoked ham, beef and sausage, beans, jam, jelly, main dishes as combination of meat and vegetables, sarma, corn bread, proja, dumplings, filled with chicken or goose liver, various pickled food, notably pickled cabbage -kisela zelka, ajvar.

MUSAKA One of the main Macedonian cuisine is famous MUSAKA prepared with potatoes and minced meat.

Musaka can be prepared with blue tomatoes too, which have to be cut in pieces and baked in oven.

With this specialty is recommend red wine.

SARMA Sarma is one of the best Macedonian specialties prepared with minced meat, rice, grape or cabbage leaves. If you make SARMI with grape leaves then you can serve it with sour cream.

This dish is prepared by baking in the oven. In addition to this specialty, we recommend a strong red wine.

TAVCE GRAVCE Baked beans Tavce gravce is arguably the most famous Macedonian dish. You can enjoy Tavce Gravce as a side dish to any meal, or as a meal on its own with a side-salad sprinkled with white sheep cheese or feta cheese, and a loaf of crusty bread.

RECIPES FROM MACEDONIA AJVAR One of most famous Macedonian specialty is Ajvar which falls in winter supplies, but it is eaten as an appetizer. It is made of red peppers that are called Ajvarka and they are best in the Strumica region. Pepper is roasted and blansed and cooked with carrot and blue tomato. Ajvar is a good supplement with all kinds of cheeses and meat.

This appetizer good fit combined with pink or white wines.

GIBANICA There are several ways to prepare this specialty. To make Gibanica you should have layers, spinach, cheese, eggs and butter. Bark at the top is coated with butter and bake.

With this specialty is recommend to drink white wine or rosĂŠ.

TARATOR Macedonian and Bulgarian cuisine as common have tarator cold soup or salad. It is prepared with cucumber and garlic as a supplement and yogurt or sour cream. Tarator is eaten in Turkey, Iran and Albania. This starter goes best with white wine.

SHOPSKA SALAD Origin of Shop salad now is the subject of discussion, but one thing is certain-Shopska salad is irresistible addition to all kinds of grilled meat. Hot peppers, cheese, goat young cheese or anything else on your taste combined with cucumber, make up this delicious salata.

So this dish is easy for preparing and is recommended in combination with rose wine or white wine.

MACEDONIAN TRADICIONAL DRINKS Wine – Macedonian wines rank among the best value and most drinkable wines available anywhere. The Macedonian wineyards, especially the ones in Tikves valley area are characteristic by the exquisite grapes and even better masters for preparation of this strong alcoholic drink. The lengthy ripening process concentrates the sugar and acids in the grapes, ensuring rich colours and complex aromas in our wines.

Rakija - Scotland has whiskey, Greece has metaxxa, while Macedonia has rakija. Throughout Macedonia, people make their own rakija, which is similar to brandy, made by distillation of fermented fruits - a very strong alcoholic beverage that is typically 50 to 60%. One version of rakija contains walnuts, altering its aroma and taste, and others plums - Slivova rakija.

Mastika is originally a liquor made from the resin of the mastic tree. It is considered the national drink of the Republic of Macedonia containing 45% alcohol, has a hot taste not unlike that of brandy and is usually made from grapes, raisins, plums or figs. It is usually poured over ice and enjoyed with Meze (selection of appetisers or small dishes).

FAMOUS PERSON FROM MACEDONIA Catholic nun and missionary Mother Teresa was born on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, the current capital of the Republic of Macedonia.

In the early stages of her life, she was fascinated by the stories of missionaries. At the age of 18, she joined the Sisters of Loreto in Calcutta (Now, Kolkata) in order to start the charity works and spread the message of love in the world. She had renamed her name from Agnes to Teresa after Thérèse de Lisieux, the patroness of the missions. She was appointed as a teacher at St. Mary’s School, Calcutta. Sister Teresa became Mother Teresa on 24th May 1937. She taught from 1931 to 1948.

The condition of the poor people outside the convent school where she was teaching were utterly bad. It, indeed, hurt her very deeply. She understood the need of the hour to help the destitute. It was really a call from the God to turn her attention towards the poor from then on. With courage and divinity, she had started an open-air school for the slum dwellers of Calcutta. Though she had not got any funds at the beginning, things were gradually changing positively to help her service by many volunteers. Once financial support were coming in, she had got all the power to serve to the humanity in a better way!

She did not stop with the service of teaching the poor children. She had also taught the adults and gave medical treatments to the ill patients by providing the basic amenities such as hospitals and clinics. She has been better known for starting off “Missionaries of Charity” with her pupils. Shishu Bhavan, establishment of center for AIDS patients and many Homes had also been started for the orphanages. Her service is still being followed in many parts of the world. She is an ideal person to be a good social worker and set as an example to the entire world as the icon of peace and love.

Mother Teresa was one of the greatest human beings of all time! A gift for the poor and destitute. She had received many high profiled awards. Some of them were:

Simon Trpceski Macedonian pianist Simon Trpčeski has established himself as one of the most exciting pianists performing today. Working regularly with a list of conductors that includes Zinman, Andrew Davis, Maazel, Jurowski, Tortelier, Pappano, Ashkenazy, Dutoit, Alsop, Dudamel, Petrenko and Noseda, he performs regularly with the world’s most significant orchestras, including the London Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philha, Strasbourg Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Royal Flanders Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, New Japan Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, Sydney and Melbourne symphony orchestras and on tour with the New Zealand Symphony. He has received much praise for his EMI recital recordings; Born in the Republic of Macedonia in 1979, Simon Trpčeski has won prizes in international piano competitions in the UK, Czech Republic and Italy, and was awarded the ‘Young Artist Award’ by the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2003.

Goran Pandev Our famous football player is born on 27th july 1983. He is the most famous football star in Macedonia. He has played for a most popular football clubs in Italy. On 18years he go in AC INTER in Milano and then he has a most famous career.In his youth Goran Pandev was recruited by Italian club Inter, who loaned him to Spezia and Ancona. In 2004, he moved to Lazio (part of transfer that includes Stankovic in Inter) to play in Serie A. He started the 2005 season by scoring the only goal in the first match, giving Lazio a win over Messina.

On 4th January 2010, Goran Pandev signed a contract with Inter where he will stay until 2014 and will wear number 27.

Currently Goran Pandev is the best Macedonian football player and leader of the Macedonian national team. Pandev is only the second Macedonian to play in Serie A. Pandev collected a host of honours including winning the 2009–10 Serie A, the 2009–10 UEFA Champions League and the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup.

Kindergartens There are 180 state-funded kindergartens in Macedonia and few private. They offer their services to 25000 children. Activities in kindergartens are organized in smaller or larger groups, depending on the age and development of children.

Primary schools

There are roughly 1100 schools. Almost all of these schools are public. Pupils that have reached six years are allowed to go to school. Primary education is at the end of reforms that started five years ago.

There are three educational cycles 1st -3rd grade, 4th -6th grade, 6th-9th .The size of school classes varies from 25 to 34 students. School year lasts 180 days, from 1 st september to 10th june with winter break from 1st january to 21st january. An average school day consists of 4-7 lessons or weekly 25-32 regular lessons. One lesson lasts 40 minutes.

School students attend lessons in two shifts (morning or afternoon). Students are involved in various extracurricular activities, socio useful work, etc.. Formal grades are not allowed in the first few years of primary school.

Secondary schools

There are roughly 110 schools. About 100 of these are public.

Secondary school education is provided by secondary schools, technical and other vocational schools, and art secondary schools for students from ages 15 to 19.

In the second half of the fourth year, pupils are supposed to write a project (maturska tema), defend it, and pass a written examination in their mother tongue on literature. The final examination is the Matura and, after completing and passing all of the items above, students will receive their diploma. The technical schools and other vocational schools train technicians for different professions—medical, financial and others.

Higher education

The study programmes of the two-cycle system were reformed (starting from 2003) in line with the Bologna Process .

The first study cycle amounts to 180 to 240 credits, which is the equivalent of study programmes lasting 3 to 4 years. The name of the qualification in the national language is diplomiran + profile or in English Bachelor + profile.

Postgraduate Studies (Master Degree) amount to 60 to 120 credits, i.e. duration of 1 to 2 years, depending on the profile. The name of the qualification in the national language is magister + profile or in English Master + profile.

There are four state higher education institutions:The University “St.Cyril and Methody”, Skopje, The University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Bitola, Tetovo State University, Tetovo, The University “Goce Delcev”, Stip There are 15 private higher education institutions.

OUR SCHOOL In central part of Balkan Penisula, eastern part of Macedonia, at the foot of Mount Plachkovica besides Karbinci village is located elementary school "Straso Pindzur.“ It is founded at the beginning of 20th century.

From 1973 works in new building.

It is one central school with nine branch schools. Stdents in our school come from ten small villages (name of villages are Karbinci, Krupiste, Balvan, Karaorman, Tarinci, Radanje, Kaluzlija, Kucuca, Prnalija, Odzalija) from whole municipality Karbinci.

In this academic year in central and branch schools 492 students attend classes.

The school has 53 teachers work.

Classes are held in Macedonian (in central and six barnches school from 1st to 8th grade) and Turkish language (in four branches school from 1 st to 5th grade).

In our country school year for student in primary and secondary school starts at 1st of September and it last until 10th of June.

Students have one break for New year and Cristmast, we call it Winter holiday and it is from 31st of December until 21 of January.

During the school year students go at school from Monday to Friday. Classes start at 7.30 AM. Each class last 40 minutes and between each class there is 5 minutes break except after second classes when is 20 minutes break for breakfast.

Students from first and second cycle usually have 4-5 classes a day. Larger students have 6-7 classes a day and

they are engaged in other additional activities.

Here is teaching plan for students from third cycle. OUR SCHOOL ACTIVITIES DAY OF OUR SCHOOL Every year on March 5, our school celebrates it’s day. Every students of school are included in diffirent activities: recitation, singing, sports competitions, acting, art and literary competition itc. Our school is named after the famous hero Straso Pindzur, He was born on March 5.

FIRST APRIL - DAY OF JOKING! On April 1 we are celebrating April Fool’s Day. Students Dress up in different costumes and visit the people of the village.

NANSEN MODEL FOR INTEGRATED LEARNING It is project for integrated learning between students from Macedonian and Turkish nationality. Because in our school there are student from Turkish nationality we learn how to learn together no meather of our nationality or religion.

SAFE INTERNET DAY In order to develop students' awareness of safe and good behavior on the Internet in our school there is organized quiz contest about how many students know for safe behavior on the internet and we share brochures with advices.
