Per Ole Hagen

Per Ole Hagen is a prize-winning Norwegian photographer living in Oslo.

With decades of experience behind the lens, Hagen is best known for showcasing some of the world’s most famous musical artists. This includes household names such as Bruce Springsteen, Robert Plant, Madonna, Patti Smith, Metallica and Steven Van Zandt.
Hagen’s photographs have proven extremely popular due to their unrivalled ability to eternalise moments from music history. Hagen has been present at countless festivals and concerts – attending more than 300 shows alone in 2022. His images capture the emotion, atmosphere and magic of these events so they can be enjoyed for years.
During his career, Hagen’s work has been exhibited numerous times and seen by audiences across Europe in countries such as Poland, Lithuania and Switzerland. In particular, he was notably part of Oslo’s Galleri MAP’s Norwegian Metal in Concert exhibition, which toured the continent in cooperation with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2012.
Since 2018 Hagen has been a photography contributor for Getty Images. This has given his work an even bigger international platform and seen him published in some of the most acclaimed publications in the world. This includes Rolling Stone, Billboard, NME, People, Harper’s Bazaar, Guitar Player and Forbes.
Hagen’s photographs have been applauded by critics and won accolades. In particular, in 2019, he picked up second prize in the music photography competition held by the Preus Museum in Horten, Norway.
In addition, his images were featured in the award-winning book “Da musikken stilnet” (When the Music Stopped) in 2021. A follow-up book, titled “Da musikken våknet” (When the Music Woke Up), also features Hagen’s pictures and was published in 2022.
During his career, Hagen hasn’t just made waves in the art world but also the world of music and academia. Until 2016 he’d enjoyed a long career with the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) and Norway’s largest radio station NRK P1. He was first the head of music at NRK P1 before becoming the manager of music rights at NRK.
Since 2016 Hagen has been sharing his passion for music by teaching music business part-time at the Institute of Musicology at the University of Oslo.
