The Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP) provides a streamlined path to permanent residency in Malta, a thriving European economy. This program allows eligible applicants and their family members to apply in a single application and reside in Malta indefinitely, securing their residency status and access to all Schengen countries.
Unlike other programs, the MPRP grants permanent residency from the outset, eliminating the need for frequent renewals. Additionally, there are no mandatory physical stay requirements in Malta.
Applicants can choose between two investment options: purchasing or renting property in Malta. The program offers comprehensive value and is cost-effective, as detailed in the requirements section below.
Non-EU nationals can achieve long-term resident status after legally residing in an EU country for a minimum of five years. To qualify, they must provide proof of their residency, such as a valid registration certificate issued upon arrival, utility bills or rental agreements, and evidence of employment, self-employment, or financial self-sufficiency. Once granted, this status is permanent and can be renewed every five years.
The primary benefits of obtaining this status include:
The right to live, work, and study in the EU country where residency was granted.
Limited freedom of movement within other EU member states.
Access to employment, education, vocational training, and social benefits.
The ability to bring family members to the EU for reunification.
Additionally, holding EU long-term resident status can simplify the process for non-EU nationals to eventually acquire citizenship, offering greater stability and opportunities within the EU.
