architectural assistant (part 2) riba/arb | bio
i graduated with a bachelor of technology in architecture (applied design) from the university of johannesburg in 2019. i later had the privilege of working at counterspace studio, where i gained experience in innovative and culturally responsive designs. notably, i was involved in the design and technical phases of the serpentine pavilion 2020/2021 and the church square regeneration project in pretoria.
since then, my journey has been rich with diverse experiences, including working as a project manager and designer for takeaway spaces, a south african start-up focused on affordable housing solutions, and collaborating on the project ‘the archive of forgetfulness’ with the goethe-institut johannesburg. in 2021, i furthered my studies at the royal college of art, where i explored the impact of the gold mining dumps in johannesburg on marginalized communities. my thesis project delved into textile-based investigations of the indian diaspora in south africa.
most recently, i participated in the biennale college architettura in venice, engaging with the themes of decolonization and decarbonization, which have deepened my commitment to these essential areas of architectural practice.
