Вирішив, що нецікаво пізнавати це просто для себе. Мені хотілося одразу все розказати іншим. Свої корені – це свої корені, але коли твій корінь – не просто якась твоя родина й щось таке, генеологічне, а коли це ціле місто, яке має тисячолітню історію, то воно якось само собою тягне розказати іншим про твої знахідки, про твої відкриття, про те, що ти знайшов для себе тут цікавого. Почав це робити в рамках проекту «Історія рідного міста. Опис у світлинах» на сайті «Луцьк неформатний». Я брав старе фото, шукав сучасне, робив його з того самого ракурсу, накладав одне на одного й давав короткий абзац опису, що це таке сфоткано. Займаючись цим проектом, паралельно купував різні книжки, усе глибше і глибше вникав в історію Луцька, мені було все цікавіше й цікавіше, і все більше й більше хотілося розказувати про це іншим. Думаю, що вся справа в тому, що я не просто зацікавився. Цікавість швидко проходить. Я зрозумів, що люблю це місто. Завершивши всі свої справи в Києві, переїхав назад жити в Луцьк і почав займатися тим, чим хотів. Був волонтером Вікіпедії і створив десь 60 статей про пам′ятки Луцька, переважно українською мовою, трохи писав англійською, а ще був у мене такий проект, коли я залучав людей, які писали німецькою й польською мовою. Suddenly, I began to realize the importance of the place where I was born. This process was launched in 2007, when I turned 21. My Granny had a collection of documents that was published as a book during the Soviet times; it was called «Lutsk is 900» [years old]. There were pictures of old post cards, the black-and-white ones, of bad quality; and I got curious about where those pictures were taken. The caption under one of the pics stated that it was 1916, but I couldn′t understand what was in the picture, because the streets had changed a lot during those years. I took the book and simply started strolling along those streets, looking for the places. It just so happened that I found it. The first find was at the beginning of Lesia Ukrainka street, where the Bratskyi Bridge is situated. It was rather emotional for me. I decided it′s not interesting to learn about the city just for yourself. I wanted to share what I’d learned at once. Your own roots are your roots, but if it extends beyond a familial or genealogical level, you must tell others about your findings and about your discoveries. I started doing this in the framework of the project called «History of a Native Town». Pictorial Description on the website «Lutsk Neformatnyi». I took an old picture, searched for the place and made a modern one, keeping the same perspective I also added a paragraph describing what was in the picture. Being involved in the project, I bought different books, deepening my knowledge about Lutsk history. As my knowledge increased, my excitement grew, and I was striving to share more and more with every passing day. The thing is that I didn′t simply get interested. Interest may come and go, but I realized that I love the city. Having done everything I was supposed to do in Kyiv, I came back to Lutsk and started doing something I wanted to. I volunteered for Wikipedia and created around 60 entries about historical monuments of Lutsk. Most of them were written in Ukrainian, but some of them were written in English, and I also had a project where I involved people who wrote articles in German and Polish. Some of the articles were translated into five languages. This was my initiative. I was a student; the scholarship was my only income and I saved money to pay people who are au fait in German and Polish, and could translate the needed chapters. This ended in 2011 when I moved back to Lutsk. Upon my arrival, I started working for VolynPost, a news website. As I started working there, I realized that I could write about Lutsk in an interesting way. This lasted until 2014 when I became the Chief Editor. It was a job that didn′t leave me any time to write about the history of Lutsk. I understood that in the future it would be better for me to work for

Я був студентом, у мене була тільки одна стипендія і я збирав гроші, щоби заплатити людям, які «шарять» у німецькій і польській мові й могли перекласти необхідні розділи. Це закінчилося у 2011 році, коли я переїхав у Луцьк. Тоді став працювати на сайті ВолиньPost. У процесі роботи виявилось, що можу ще й писати про Луцьк цікаво. Так тривало до 2014 року, поки я став головним редактором. Це була робота, коли я не міг писати про історію Луцька, бо бракувало часу. Я побачив, що мені далі буде краще і спокійніше працювати в новому виданні, ніж працювати там, де я не можу писати про історію мого міста. Всередині 2015 року з’явилися «Хроніки Любарта». Була газета «Хроніки Любарта» і створювався сайт під цю газету. А потім газету переформатyвали під сайт «Волинські новини». Півроку «Хроніки Любарта» проіснували і виявилося, що нікому вони непотрібні. Тоді я подав власникам сайту ідею створити видання про історію Луцька й Волині. З квітня 2016 року стартували і з того часу працюємо в такому режимі. Про особливість Луцька й улюблене місце Кожне місто є унікальним, тому що в кожного є своя особлива історія, свій шлях, свої конкретні події, факти, пов’язані з ним. Те, що може виділяти на фоні всіх міст України й те, що виділяє його, особливо в туристичній сфері – це історія про поєднання з Великим Князівством Литовським, XIV-XV століття, часи Вітовта, коли Луцьк був одним із найбільш важливих міст Великого Князівства Литовського. У цей час Вітовт організував з′їзд монархів.

Раптом почав розуміти важливість того місця, де народився. Цей процес у мене відбувся якраз у 2007 році, коли мені було 21. У моєї бабусі був збірник документів, виданий у радянський час, «Луцьку – 900 років». Там була репродукція поштових листівок, таких чорно-білих, у поганій якості, і мені стало цікаво, де це сфоткано. Було підписано, якесь там фото Луцька, 1916 рік. А де це сфоткано, не розумів, бо вулиці дуже змінилися за сто років. Я просто взяв ту книжку, став ходити вулицями, шукати, де ті місця. Так сталося, що я знайшов. Перша знахідка була на початку вулиці Лесі Українки, там, де Братський міст. Це було досить емоційно.
Love to the City When a person lives in a city, sooner or later they start being curious about it′s history. It happened to me when I was in Kyiv. I studied at the Physics Faculty of Shevchenko University. Before moving to Kyiv I didn′t know anything about Lutsk, I wasn′t interested at all. But later I developed some nostalgia. I started to pay attention, started to look for some news about Lutsk events.

Любов до міста «Коли людина живе у своєму місті, то рано чи пізно починає ним цікавитись. У мене це сталося тоді, коли я був у Києві. Навчався в університеті Шевченка на фізичному факультеті. До того, як поїхати в Київ, я нічого про Луцьк не знав, не цікавився зовсім. А потім у мене з′явилася невеличка ностальгія. Почав просто придивлятися, шукати новини, що тут відбувається в Луцьку.

Власне, чому цей період був важливим? Не тільки, тому, що з′їхалося багато людей, і Вітовт розвинув політичний, економічний, культурний Луцьк, а ще й тому що в контексті великої історії України Луцьк найкраще всього репрезентує литовську спадщину. Багато українських земель були в складі Князівства Литовького, але в Луцьку відбувалися ключові події. І якраз найкраще цю історію можна представити на прикладі Волині й Луцька. У контексті міста цей період, напевно, найбільш самобутній, найбільш цікавий, найбільш визначний. Моє улюблене місце в Луцьку біля собору святих Петра й Павла.
a different news website, than to work in the place where I cannot write about the history of my hometown. In the middle of 2015, «Khroniky Lubarta» appeared. There was a newspaper called «Khroniky Lubarta», and there was a website being created to accompany the newspaper. Later, the newspaper was restructured and it was published under the title «Volynski Novyny». «Khroniky Lubarta» existed for six months and it occurred to people that it was not needed. Then I suggested the newspaper owners create a source that would tell people about the history of Lutsk and Volyn region. So in April, 2016, we started doing this and we′ve been working on it since then. About the unique aspects of Lutsk and the favourite place Every city is unique because each has it′s special history, it′s own path, some specific events taking place, and facts that are connected with it. Something that can be spotted as it is being compared to other cities of Ukraine and something that makes it stand out, especially in the sphere of tourism, is the story of its connection with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, XIV-XV centuries, the times of Vytautas, when Lutsk was one of the most important cities of the Duchy. Those were the times when Vytautas organized The Congress of Lutsk. So why was this period important? It′s not just because many people came together and Vytautas developed Lutsk as a political, economical, and cultural city, but also because in the context of the extensive history of Ukraine, Lutsk represents the Lithuanian heritage in the best way. Many Ukrainian lands belonged to the Duchy, but it is Lutsk that was the site for key events. This history may be best presented using the examples of Lutsk and Volyn. In the city context this period seems to be the most authentic, the most interesting, and outstanding. My favorite place in Lutsk is the space in front of St. Peter and Paul Cathedral. I like to sit on the benches there. This street, in my opinion, is well-built. It′s nice to have a stroll there, nice to see the facades and say that one hundred years ago people built such structures. People want to see history. There are catacombs of XVII c. open nearby. They are very interesting, but because no one looked after them, they became dilapidated. This place is now considered to be the site for the construction of a new building. But you cannot build there. It′s against the law. But the person who is doing that has the money and thus can bribe authorities to receive permission to start the construction. All the scientists and adequate people are radically against that
