ARTIST PROFILE: SARAH BOWDEN When she first began walking, Sarah Bowden, who plays “Cassie” in this production, walked with her feet pointed inward. Her doctor gave her mother one prescription to remedy her challenge: “Put her in ballet!” Bowden fell in love with the artform and danced throughout her childhood, starring in amateur musicals and school productions. At the age of 15, she booked her first professional gig, an Australian tour of Cats. The acting bug bit and she has been performing ever since! Bowden’s role in A Chorus Line at Theatre Under The Stars marks her first trip to Texas, one of her “must see states” since moving to America! Originally from Australia, Bowden has been seen on stages around the world. She booked her dream role of “Cassie” originally in a German production. “I never imagined singing ‘lass mich Musik hören’ instead of ‘play me the music,’” Bowden laughs, “Playing shows in German allowed me to find things in the script that aren’t so obvious when you read them in English.” She is excited to revisit the character she’s come to love over the years. “She is truly one of my favorite parts to play... Everytime I play her, I am a little older and there are more experiences I can draw upon,” Bowden explains.

Each role comes with its set of challenges, and for Bowden, this show is all about endurance! “The most challenging part is staying healthy, physically and emotionally, to be able to pull it off,” she explains. Support came in the form of advice from Baayork Lee, who was the Dance Captain and Assistant to show creator Michael Bennett the first time Bowden starred in this show. Bowden recalls Lee, who played the original “Connie” in A Chorus Line, making her rehearse her number three or more times each day. “She said, ‘If you can do it three times a day in rehearsals, once a day during showtime will be a walk in the park!” As for the next generation of theatre stars, Bowden has three pieces of advice: “Show up! Put in the work and say ‘yes!’” Years of experience and hard work have certainly paid off for her and she encourages others to follow their dreams, whatever they may be. “Put in the work, find what makes your heart the happiest, and trust that by showing up for the work and for yourself, your dreams will become a reality.”
