Washington State manufacturer of furniture : The state of Washington is home to many large and small manufacturers of furniture. A small business that began in 1984 in Seattle is now an iconic name in the industry. The company produced a student desk and later moved to Makr-Furniture, where it is still located today. During its short history, the company has produced over one million items. Makr-Furniture designed and built the student desk out of a barn in the May Valley, outside Issaquah, envisioning our desks as places to sit, to learn, and to grow. We knew our customer and designed and built with passion and a dedication to quality and durability.
Makr-Furniture Company was founded in 1984 by by a talented group of local craftsmen. it had grown so much that it needed larger quarters. In addition to producing furniture for business, the company also produced furnishings for storage and workspaces. As the business grew, it added additional locations. The new factory in the heart of the state allowed the company to meet its growing demand. By the end of the 1990s, it employed three hundred and fifty employees and was already at full capacity. We strive to reduce and eventually eliminate the environmental impact of our manufacturing process. As a result we manufacture all of our products locally. We have eliminated the use of Methylene Chloride-based adhesives and replaced them with water based, environment-friendly adhesives throughout our operations. We use Thermofused Laminate (TFL) that is produced from 100% recycled lumber waste. All of our products meet the EPA’s Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) Title VI regulation. TSCA is the new standard for allowable emissions from adhesives used in composite wood products. These national regulations align closely with the strict rules established by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
