LEGO MIDI BOX

Powered by Mindstorms Robot Inventor

Product Design Interaction Design

Project Summary

LEGO MIDI Box inspires 5+ year old to grow on basic music knowledge by providing them with fun activities and creative learning experience.

Problem Statement

Learning music instrument is hard and overwhelming.

Since music instrument requires lots of rules to learn. Beginner would give up on learning them once they are tired of not playing anything soon and tired of learning complicated theory.

5+ year old kid characteristics

Age 6 to 9 is the best age start to learn music instrument. LEGO MIDI targets on age 5 will be a good period to start to introduce music theory to our target user.

Creative Play

When one plays with imagination to transcend what is known in the current state, to create something new.

Storytelling & Companion

They learn by starting out with a parent telling a story or reading aloud to a child, and leading to a child retelling the story in their own words.

Hard to learn absract theory

Kids have difficult times to connect their common sense with the professional terms used in music. This makes their learning process extremely hard when they first encounter music theory.

90% of children who have taken music lessons are on average 5 IQ points higher than their peers

88% kids music toys are providing un-organized thinking process.

Design Insights

The product should make friendly connection both functionally and visually with user.

87% of teachers and parents believe children should learn instrument as early as possible.

—NAMM survey conducted in January-February 2015

At the end of 2017, research showed that hybrid technology and musical instruments were the biggest trend in the instrument market.

-Top 4 Emerging Trends Impacting the Musical Instrument Market Until 2020: Technavio

Expanding story telling into kid s musical play for them to learn concept in time, rhythm, melody and form. The product should guide kids having organized thinking process and composing process.

The product should lead kids to understand fundamental music components through effective input to the play.

Solution

We have provided a method that can convert musical notes into physical LEGO bricks, and based on this method, we have increased the fun and playability of learning music.

—A study by E. Glenn Schellenberg at the University of Toronto at Mississauga, as published in a 2004 issue of Psychological Science —Lynn Kleiner, founder of Music Rhapsody in Redondo Beach, CA to Parents online

Why LEGO System Integration

LEGO is one of the most popular brands among young people, especially children; LEGO has a wide range of product line, STEAM education is one of the welcomed one. LEGO has a series of well-known and kids loved co-brand IP character. LEGO s initiation time for children and the initiation time for music basically coincides with.

Mario is able to judge colors and where they are up and down, but has no spatial radar sensor. Therefore, in some placement forms, there will be situations where the position cannot be judged. Bowser catches the princess, and Mario accepts the mission.

The player clicks “Done” to accept the mission and start the game. Mario starts to move forward and finds that the road is blocked. He needs help from kids to repair and build a bridge. Explain through text and audio, “Can You Help Me?”.

Playerwill build the bridge by placing bricks correctly onto LEGO M D scanner to match the music displayed in order to move orward in the story.

Guide the player to build by groups. Use the right arrow to jump to the next group.

Mario is required to make a jump when the Question Mark Box is approaching.

The first pop-up prompts the player to jump by pushing the Keys Controller on the left.

When the player jumps successfully, the corresponding prompt window disappears.

When approaching, the player can choose to push the Slide Module and operate mario to jump.

When jumping successfully, the player needs to turn the Question Mark Box and the sound effect changes with the rotation.

When the player fails to align successfully, the miss animation appears.

The accuracy of the jump will be recorded into the scoring system and presented after completing the level.

The player turns the monster to align the bomb. If aligned, the monster can be blown up accurately.

When the monster is blown up, there will be a screen that successfully blows up the monster

When the pipe appears, the user needs to push the right slot to control mario's jump.

When it is necessary to enter the pipeline, the player needs to press the pipeline button to let Mario enter the underground game level.

As the player advances the story, they actually perform a series of corresponding keystrokes that allow them to complete the task of setting the sound effects.

REVIEW

Scoring system: Scoring is based on the correct rate of the children's corresponding operations in the second part.

Playback: Play the completed music video.

Re: Re-challenge, the new challenge and this challenge retain the higher score.

Forward: Exit the current level and return to the list interface.

Why is it relevant

Our products offer an opportunity for people to play together and communicate through innovative twisting seats and immersive “Half half storys”.

“Gear” is a public seating solution designed to promote interaction and communication among individuals. It's perfect for parks, streets, and other communal spaces, inviting people to connect and engage with each other.

How does it work

As people pass by, they are drawn to the intriguing design of our seats. Upon sitting down, they discover text-based stories displayed on either side. Quickly realizing that the narrative unfolds across both sides, they are encouraged to explore and communicate with those seated opposite by rotating the seat using their backs and feet.

Sugar Catcher

Speculative Design / Service Design / Product Design

Project Summary

Sugar Catcher is a program that helps consumers identify and discover sugary foods that are beyond their expectations in the supermarket shopping scenario. Considering the fact that people's health status is now infringed by sugary foods, and that the deliberate packaging and marketing of sugary foods by businesses cannot really be effectively changed and strictly regulated. However, consumers' perception of the level of added sugar is always difficult to achieve accuracy and clarity, so it is particularly difficult to expect each individual to select processed foods that meet their physiological needs.

Historical Research

From luxury to sugar free

Humans enjoy sweet foods because we have evolved mechanisms to consume sugars to convert them into energy. Our ancestors were in a harsh survival environment for a long time, and sugar would have been a rare and scarce resource, which is why the brain rewarded us with a sweet treat to get hooked on the taste. They are like air-drop boxes that suddenly dropped in the early game of human survival, a reward from the heavens and a gift from nature. People with a sweet tooth are more likely to survive when energy supplies are scarce, and genes take note of this preference.

Offering honey to ithyphallic deities was a common ritual in temples such as Dendera and Edfu.

In Mayans pantheon, Some gods were consecrated as protectors of the hives, others were often represented in postures landing bees in sculptures adorning temples.

As early as 2700 BC, Mesopotamian clay tablets mention honey as a medicine.

Ancient bees, a beehive and a wax found in Israel show that the Promised Land is a "land flowing with milk and honey".

Clay pots filled with honey in the tomb of Tutankhamen shows Egyptians buried jars of honey with the dead, believing it to be sustenance for the afterlife.

The "papyrus of Ebers" mentions more than 500 preparations based on honey.

Chapter 16 of the Holy Qur’an is named Al-Nahl, or ‘The Bee’. Muhammadsa has also advised Muslims to use honey as a cure when he said, ‘Make use of the two cures: honey and the Qur’an.’

In the 19th century, there were electuaries (a pasty galenic form administered orally), mellites (honeybased syrups), and oxymels (a pharmaceutical preparation made from water, honey and vinegar).

Terracotta figure of a woman grinding grain. (Greek, 5th century BC.): Pancakes with Honey and Sesame Seeds are made

The painting Louis XII entering Genoa (1499 shows the bee was one of the symbols of the power of kings, wealth, war, and victory.

table filled with sugar figurines at the Duke of Jülich’s wedding in 1587 Hogenberg) are emblems of wealth and power only those of status could afford to craft, serve, and eat sugar in such gluttonous quantities.

After the Industrial Revolution sugar was used as a cheap energy source and paired with tea to create an illusory warmth that was used to increase worker productivity. Sugar was thought to have a nourishing effect and the ability to relieve fatigue.
