Haveyouparticipatedinavolunteereventthissummer?Ifso,describeyourexperience.

Everyfirstweekendofthemonth,theEnvironmentalAwarenessSustainabilityTeam (EAST)collectspeople’srecycledgoodstosortout.Aninfluxofallsortsofpeoplecomeby todropoffrecyclablematerialtobesortedthrough.EversincethecityofBeaumontcut offallrecyclingservicesin2019,recyclinghasgrowntobeincreasinglycostlyand unavailabletomany.Thosewhowouldliketorecyclewouldhavetopayafeetoa recyclingbusinesstogettheirrecycledmaterialspickedupandprocessed,thusmakingit extremelyinequitableforpoorercommunitiestolivemoresustainably.

WhatistheMediterraneanFestivalandwhyisitsoimportanttoyou?

ThiswasmysecondyearvolunteeringfortheMediterraneanfestivalanditdidnot disappoint.TheMediterraneanfestivalisafestivalfilledwith.MiddleEastern,Greek,and Arabicfoods.Itisafestivalformanypeopletocometogetherandtryuniquefoodsthat youtypicallywouldn’tgetanywhereelse.Thisfestivalisheldatthelocalcommunity churchofSaintMichaelswhichisanonprofitorganizationdedicatedtocultural tradition.IlovethisprojectjustbecausethisismysecondyearworkingintheGyrostand forasecondyearnow.Thepeoplewhorunitarealwayssokindtoshowmetheropes againonhowtoassembleandfoldtheperfectGyro.Ialwaysworksohardandbreaka tremendoussweat,butit’salwaysworthitintheend.Thenumberofpeoplewhoareso kindtoorderfromthestandit’ssowholesomeduetohowmuchitmeanstothefamilies whoputtheeventtogether.Thegyrosthemselvesareincrediblydelicious,it’squite upsettingthatIcan’tindulgeinthemmorethanonceayear.Theyconsistofmeat, tzatzikisauce,tomato,andonion,andit’sallfoldedintoawarmflatbread.Thisfestivalis filledwithsomuchcultureandrespecttowardsMiddleEasternpeopleit’squite beautifulbecauseIdon’tgettoseethingslikethatoften.Thedancesandthemusicall madeitextremelymemorableforvolunteering.I’vealwaysappreciatedhowmuchthe respectandcareforthevolunteersmeanalot.Thesepeoplehavealotofkindnessto sharewiththeworldandyoucouldseethatthroughthisevent.IhopenextyearIgetto volunteerfortheMediterraneanfestivalagain!Itbringssomuchtraditionand kindheartednesstothecommunitywhichIreallyappreciate.I’vealwayslovedthisevent sotocontinuetosupportitisveryimportanttomeduetomypastexperienceswiththe churchandpeople.

Fortunately,throughtherecyclingdrop-offEASThasonceamonth,recyclingismade morereadilyavailabletoallmembersofthecommunity.Althoughtheteamonlycollects andsortsonceamonth,theimpactofitisgreatenoughwithitsabilitytofoster communitycollaborationoverimportantcityissuesandpromoteenvironmental awareness.

IvolunteerwithEASTeverymonth,andrecentlyIhavegottensomemembersfromKey Clubtohelpmeout.Therecyclingdrop-offspansatwo-hourtimeframewhere volunteerscollecttherecycledmaterialandsortthroughit.Wegroupdifferenttypesof plastics,cardboard,glassbottles,andsteelcansintheirrespectivepiles.Throughthis experience,myawarenessofsingle-useplasticsandthedifferentvariationsofplasticshas increased.Forexample,Inowknowthatjustbecausetwocontainersareplastic,theymay notnecessarilybethesametypeofplastic.Ialsolearnedmoreaboutwhichmaterialscan berecycledandthosethataremuchmoredifficultto.PriortovolunteeringwithEAST,I wasunawarethattheplasticbagsIgetfromgrocerystoresaredifficulttoprocessand recycle,thusresultinginmanyrecyclingcompanies’refusaltocollectthem. Volunteering isnotonlyagreatopportunitytohelpthecommunityoutandfosterincreased connectionsamongcitizens,butitisalsoawaytolearnandincreaseawarenessabout one ’scityanditsneeds.IamproudtostatethatvolunteeringwithEASThasprovidedme withinvaluableknowledgeandawarenessthatIwillforevercherish.

IvolunteeredforStJudes’annualvacationbibleschoolforthesecondyearinarow now.Beingabletoinvestmytimeandenergyintotheyouthmademysummerso memorable.Ithasgrownmyleadershipabilitiesandhascreatedagatewayformy passionsintoteachingandmentoring.AsaCrewLeader,Ihadtotake responsibilitytoguidemygroupoffivekidstoanewviewofthefaith.Makingthe week-longeventasafeplaceforthemtoexpressthemselvesandlearnwhile schoolsareout.Thiseventalwaysbringsmemeaningfulmemoriesandreminds mewhyIcontinuevolunteeringformychurchandKeyClub.Ialwaysleavethe weekwiththefeelingofafulfilledheartbasedonmyimpactontheyouthandthe amountofeffortI’veputintotakingcareofthelittleones.ThisyearIgottobethe “Saintoftheday”whichmeantIhadtodressasmySaintandgetaskedevery curiousquestionaboutwhattheSaintdidandhowtheyhelped.MySaintwasOur LadyofSorrows,MotherMary.Igottospeakonstageandgettoexplainherstory andrelateittothepromptforthatday.Ialsospoketomyyouthministerbefore andsheconvincedmetotakea.5picturewhileonstagewhichturnedout awesome.

Whiledressinginafullropewithaheavyveilonmyheadwasalittletoohotfor theTexassummer,thewholeexperiencewarmedmyheart.Gettingtoleadmykids andseealltheirdifferentpersonalitiesandalsoseeingallthewonderfulways childreninteractwasoneofthehighlightsofmysummer.

LEDCONwassuchanamazingeventthathashelpedmyKeyClublear Throughouttheshorttime,Igottospendwitheveryone,Igotthechan allaroundtheKeyClubcommunity.Itwasagreatopportunitytolearn canimplementinourKeyClubinfutureyears.Goingtonewforumsev getoutofbedearlyeachmorningjustknowingthatIwouldbedoings experience. VolunteeringatWestBrookHighSchoolwithManning'sOfficeSolutionshasbeenanam anddesksmaysoundlikeasimpletask,butithashadaprofoundimpactonme.Working andothervolunteers,webecameadynamiccrew,tacklingthechallengewithenthusiasm powerofteamworkandeffectivecommunication,ensuringthateachpiecewasputtoget incrediblyfulfillingtoknowthatoureffortscontributedtocreatingabetterlearningenv fulfillment,thisexperiencealsotaughtmepracticalfurnitureassemblyandorganization HighSchoolhasbeenarewardingadventurethathasshapedmeinmorewaysthanIim opportunitytomakeapositiveimpactandcontributetomycommunity.Ilookforwardt andexploringnewwaystomakeadifference!Inconclusion,volunteeringatWestBrook filledwithcamaraderie,personalgrowth,andthejoyofmakingadifference.Ithasshown taughtmevaluableskills,andignitedalifelongpassionforgivingback.I'mtrulyhonore transformativeexperienceandexcitedtocontinuemyjourneyofmakingapositiveimpa thededicatedeffortsofvolunteers,includingmyself,andthesupportofManning'sOffice equippedwithbrand-newtablesanddesks.Thisupgradewillprovidethestudentswith environmentthatfostersengagementandproductivity.Thenewtablesanddesksofferc thatstudentshavetheidealspacetostudy,collaborate,andexcelintheiracademicpurs designedpiecesoffurniture,thestudentswillhavearenewedsenseofprideandenthusi educationaljourney.

Asthe2022-2023KeyClubyearcomestoanend,Iwouldliketosharemyexperienc takenmeon.Theend-of-the-yearKeyClubpartywasoneforthebookswithallthe (didyoucatchmypunthere).Thesadnesswasfromleavingalltheamazingseniors spacetobeapartof.OurseniorsmadeKeyClubfunwithallthelaughsandguidan me.Butweweren’tcryingforlongasthesmellofallthefooddistractedourhungry consistedofthefamousCrumbleCookie,Dunkin'Donuts,pizza,abeautifulfruittra fries.Somemembersevencookedhomemadefoodandbroughtittothemeeting.T culturewithfoodsuchasfriedrice,eggrolls,andspaghetti.Whilewewereeatingth discussourachievementsfromtheyear,whichwasveryfulfilling.Thismeetingalso upcomingprojectsforwhichmemberscanvolunteeroverthesummer.Notonlytha what'scomingupforthenextschoolyear. Afterwefinisheddiscussingimportanti facefundraiserforthecharityUNICEF.Everyonethoughtitwashilariouspieingth wasforagreatcauseandraisedagoodamountofmoney.AstheKeyClub2023-202 continuetodiscoverallthedutiesthataWebmasterdoes.Iamgratefulforalltheo servedmeatfootballconcessionsandgivingfieldinmyfreshmanyearhereatWest forwhatnextyearhastobring.Here'stoanothergreatyearIhopethatthisorganiz success!

AMAZING.Wewonthetrophiesforwinning1stNon-digitalposter,1st travelingcup,andfinally1stKeyClubintheTexasOklahomaDistrict! KeyClubintheTexasOklahomaDistrictitfeltunrealwalkinguptoth corememoryofmine. Overall,thisexperiencehashadsuchapositive ideasthatwehopetocarryoutthroughthenextfewyears.Winningall ourKeyClub,evenmore,totryhardertowinnextyear.Asafutureoffi thingsImayneedtoknowwhencarryingoutmyjobrepresentingmys suchanenjoyableexperienceandI'malreadylookingforwardtogoing

ParticipatinginameetforKeyClubwasanincrediblyrewardingexperience amemorableeventwherewewitnessedourschool'sathletescometogethera heldonaThursdayafterschoolinthefieldhouse,startingataround4:30pm trackofthelifters'cards,whichindicatedtheirliftattempts,andtorecordth tables,eachcorrespondingtoaplatform,whereeachlifterwouldcompetein Eachlifterhadthreeattemptstocompleteeachlift,andwewereresponsible successfulattempt.Asvolunteers,wehadtopaycloseattentiontoeachlifter possibilityiftheymissedallthreeattemptsonasinglelift.Differentweightd andIhappenedtojointwoothervolunteersatthefirstplatform. Duringthe filledwithenergyandexcitement.Liftersattemptedtheirlifts,andtheirteam wasinitiallychaotic,butweeventuallygotthehangofitandunderstoodwha theweighteachlifterwantedtotry,whiletheotheraskedthelifterdirectly.M numbernexttotheweight,enablingustokeeptrackoftheirprogress. As someone who's actively involved in the Key Club at West B the great potential for our club to positively impact our comm to be the upcoming Key Club President. My main goal as Presi number of members who participate in the club and create a s within our group. I believe that if we can create a feeling of tog accomplish even more. To achieve this goal, I plan to host mor help build connections between members. I want our member family and that what they do is important. By doing this, I hop events more enjoyable and get more people involved. Another people involved is by partnering with other clubs and groups a together, we can have a bigger impact and give our members m things. Lastly, I want to focus on doing more good in our comm more volunteer opportunities and service projects, so our mem can help their community. I'm excited for the year ahead and President. With everyone ' s help, I know we can make a real dif community.

MyKeyClubexperiencehasbeenoneofthemostrewardingandfulfillingexp memberoftheKeyClub,Ihavehadtheopportunitytoparticipateinvariousco volunteeringatthefoodkitchen"SomeOtherPlace".Throughtheseprojects,Ih impactonthelivesofotherswhilealsogainingvaluableskillsandexperiences.

Ourhighschool'sgrassyhillsandterrainwerecoveredwithdiscardedhomewo emptywaterbottles.Suchalargeamountoftrashwouldseemimpossibletopic

Fortunately,withthehelpofourvolunteers,thenear-impossibletaskwaseasil thirdFriday,theschool’sGreenClubarrangescampustrashpickupsopentoal memberschosetovolunteerafterschooltohelpkeepthecampusclean.Throu humid,scorchingsummers,manyvolunteersstillpersistinthetaskinorderto However,thisparticulartrashpickuponMay13thwasaspecialone.

Hi,mynameisKarinaBernalandmyfutureregardinghome,school,andc tremendouslyduetotheimpactofKeyClub.I’vebecomeabetterpersonb thereisforvolunteersinthissociety.Myperspectivehaschangedregardin forthosewhoneeditandalwaysshowingupforyourcommunity.I’vebeco tomyvolunteering,andIcansaythatwitheverythinginmyheart.Volunte individualandshapedmetowantbetterformycommunityandthepeople withschoolandconnectionwithmyfuturehasalsoshiftedseverelyinthe renewedmyperceptionofleadershipskills,usingthemasnowavesseltoi FollowingApril22nd,Ibecamethe2023-2024ArticleEditorformydivision coaster.I’mfullyviewingtheamountofhardworkanddedicationittakest ours.MypositioninKeyClubhasallowedmetogetacceptedintoorganiza ChapteroftheNationalHonorsSocietyandentrepreneurshipprogramsfo havevolunteeredatmanyevents,rangingfromthelocalsoupkitchenSom AssociationwalkandtherecentHarborHospiceButterflyRelease.KeyClu myselffullyandimproveinallaspects.I’vealsohadthehonortoattendth timethismonthandgettoseetheincrediblejobwhichKeyClubhasdone hasreallyhelpedmotivatemetodomoreformycommunity.I’msoluckya organization.AndI’mverygratefultosaybarelyenteringmyjunioryear,I pushthisclubtoitsfullestpotential.

Howhasvolunteeringatalocalhospitalmadeapositiveimpactandwhathaveyoupersonally Volunteeringisanobleendeavorthatnotonlybenefitsthecommunitybutalsoofferspersona KeyClub,aservice-basedclubatmyhighschool,Ihadtheopportunitytocontributetomycom hospital.Thisexperiencenotonlyallowedmetomakeapositiveimpactbutalsoshapedmyper theimportanceofservice.Inthisessay,Iwillsharemypersonalexperience,theimpactImade, shouldconsidergettinginvolvedinhospitalvolunteering.Volunteeringatthelocalhospitalthr rewardingexperience.FromthemomentIsteppedintothehospital,Iwasgreetedwithwarmth Theyrecognizedtheinvaluablerolevolunteersplayinprovidingcomfortandsupporttopatien tasks,suchasdeliveringmeals,providingcompanionship,andassistingwithadministrativedu withadiversegroupofpatientsandwitnessfirsthandtheimpactofmyactions.Mytimevolunte impactonboththepatientsandme.Bysimplyofferingalisteningear,asmile,oracomfortingp solacetopatientswhoweregoingthroughchallengingtimes.Whetheritwasengaginginconve longedforcompanionshiporcheeringupchildreninthepediatricwardwithgamesandcrafts, gesturesofkindnesscouldmakeasignificantdifferenceinsomeone'sday.Additionally,volunte developessentialskillssuchaseffectivecommunication,empathy,andadaptability.Interactin backgroundsandwitnessingthestrugglestheyfacedenhancedmyabilitytorelatetoothersan sensitivityinhealthcaresettings.Theseskillshavenotonlybenefittedmeinmyvolunteeringro anyfutureendeavorsIpursue.VolunteeringatmylocalhospitalthroughKeyClubhasbeenan allowingmetowitnessthepowerofserviceandcompassion.Throughthisexperience,Ihaveno livesofothersbutalsodevelopedcrucialskillsandgainedadeeperunderstandingofthehealth memberofKeyClubshouldconsidervolunteeringatthehospitaltoexperiencetheprofoundjo community,andgrowpersonallyandprofessionally.

"SomeOtherPlace"wasoneofthemostimpactfulexperiencesIhadasaKeyCl nonprofitorganizationthatprovidesfood,shelter,andotheressentialservices Duringmytimevolunteeringatthefoodkitchen,Ihadtheopportunitytointer oflifeandtowitnessfirsthandtheimpactofpovertyandhomelessness. WhathasbeenyourexperiencewithKeyClubandhowhasitimpactedyourhigh schoolcareer?

KeyClubhasprobablybeenoneofthebestexperiencesofmyhighschoolcareer, andthisisforamultitudeofreasons.KeyClubhastaughtmealotofimportant skillsIneedforthefutureandhascreatedmanygreatmemoriesandexperiences withmycomrades.Icouldnotimaginehowmyhighschoolcareerwouldbe withoutit.Thatishowimportantitis.OutofallthethingsKeyClubhasoffered,it hasdefinitelytaughtmecooperation,leadership,andkindnesstowardothers.First wascooperation,andcooperationisdefinitelyoneofthecoreaspectsofKeyClub. InKeyClub,wearetaughttoworkwithourpeerstoservepeopleandour community,andthiswasmostcertainlyexpressedinmyexperienceswiththisclub. Iwouldconstantlyhavetocooperatewithpeersinordertocompleteacertaintask, withexamplesbeingmakingsandwichestogetherinSomeOtherPlace,making nachostogetheratfootballgames,andworkingwithmypeersatsoccerconcessions toserveallthecustomersandthelines. Nextisleadership,andthiswasexpressed inmyrunningforanofficerpositionaseditor.Ilearneddisciplineinmywork,andI hadtotakemattersintomyownhandsinordertogeteverythingdoneandontime.
