What did you volunteer for and how was it significant to the community?
In a heartwarming display of community spirit and service, The Giving Field volunteers organized a delightful lemonade stand fundraiser that not only quenched thirst but also raised funds for a noble cause. The event, at the Giving Field, brought together many volunteers and supporters, including many Key Club volunteers from Westbrook High School. The lemonade served as a beacon of generosity, offering refreshing beverages to beat the summer heat, while also serving a good cause. Key Club members helped in many ways at the lemonade stand. First, we helped fill up balloons to put around the lemonade stand. We also held up signs by the road to advertise the lemonade stand to oncoming drivers. The Key Club members, as well as the other volunteers also helped by putting ice and lemonade in the cups. As more people drove up to the stand, volunteers helped bring the lemonade to people in their cars. The lemonade was free for everyone, but many people gave generous donations. The Giving field also had many posters and banners, proudly displaying their goal. Their goal was to have $3000 in donations after the stand. With only a few hours into the lemonade stand, the organization reached its goal. Every cup of lemonade purchased contributed directly to the noble cause. Supporters could also make additional donations, further creating a positive impact on the local soup kitchen Some Other Place and for new crops to continue their fueling mission to give back to those in need. The event not only highlighted the significance of community service to support those unable to predict where their next meal will come from but also showed Key Club, as well as other volunteers' commitment to service. This event also showcased the importance of unity. Parents, local businesses, and even bystanders joined hands in support, demonstrating that small actions can lead to significant change.

What have Key Club officers done to create a smoother and more stress-free year?
Attending the officer social bowling event turned out to be more than just a casual outing. As we all gathered at the bowling alley, little did we know that the experience would bring us officers closer together in a way we hadn't expected. The first thing that struck me was how everyone was relaxed, shedding their official personalities, and just wanted to hang out for a fun time. We divided into teams and played a series of bowling games. It was fascinating to see the diverse range of bowling techniques each officer showed. Some took a precision-focused approach, aiming meticulously for the pins, while others brought an exuberant, carefree flair to their throws. As the frames passed, the initial cautiousness gave way to laughter and cheers. It was the sound of collective joy, echoing through the lanes. Amid strikes, spares, and the many gutterballs, we discovered not only each other's bowling styles but also glimpses of individual personalities that we might not have seen some officers in a different setting. What truly cemented the bonding experience was the shared laughter. Whether it was a near-miss that ended up in a strikingly unexpected manner or a playful attempt at mimicking professional bowlers, each moment brought us closer together. The atmosphere became a playground of shared memories, inside jokes, and anecdotes that will undoubtedly resurface during future encounters. The officer social bowling event wasn't just about winning or losing; it was about celebrating our collective identity outside the uniformed responsibilities. It reminded us that beneath the roles we play in our official capacities, we are individuals with quirks, humor, and a shared spirit of collaboration. As the final frames were played and the event concluded, it was evident that our bond had deepened. This seemingly simple gathering had done wonders in strengthening the connections among us officers, fostering a sense of unity that will undoubtedly translate to our professional interactions.

FIRST YEAR ME
HO
What better way to start the year than to see so many new and bright faces! Not only was August 17th the first meeting of the year but it was my first first meeting as an officer which was amazing to be a part of. In the first Key Club meeting the perspective of an officer is incredibly wild. Not only can you see the small details going into every segment of the meeting but you have to report it back and see the true love that people have for the club and the organization, which is absolutely why I do what I do.
As we sat down for the first officer meeting thirty minutes before the first six o 'clock meeting, the officers discussed the details that we had to go into for those who have never been to a meeting and an update for returning veterans who have. We spent a while communicating about the new year and our strengths and weaknesses regarding us in our positions to become aware and prepared for how this year could go.
I made a point to make everyone feel included for their first time back. Talking to individual people as well as talking to everyone at once with the mic in hand felt so natural. The vibe of the whole meeting was energetic, you could sense people wanted to be there as they constantly interacted with us. By paying their dues and buying shirts you could truly see that the people were excited to be there to sign up for projects with their friends. While it was overwhelming, I got to see a productive start to the year with the number of people who wanted to sign up for events, the officer's inputs and perspectives, and just the excitement overall from the majority who wanted to show up for the organization even when schedules were tight and energy is low. I can look around me and see the amount of people who are in it to make a difference as well.

What was your first perspective of Key Club and how do you think you’ll fit it into your schedule?
My name is Zamir Chavarria, and this is my first year in Key Club. I’m entering this club my junior year, a little late into my high school journey, but everything I heard about this club last year from my classmates, teachers, and not to mention all the social media posts have been positive and have always made me interested in KeyClub.
This month I went to my first meeting of the year and it was extremely enjoyable. The Key Club officers were so chill and made jokes about small things making me as well as everyone at the meeting feel welcomed and wanted. For example, they took a dig at our student council for not volunteering for the community as frequently as needed and how Key Club “is just better”. They gave us a detailed explanation of all of the service projects they offer like The Giving Field, Some Other Place, and soccer concessions, which I’m really familiar with. I have played soccer for all of my life and to see other players on the field playing soccer for an overwhelmingly good cause like Kicks for Kids has never sounded better. At first, I was a little hesitant that I wasn’t going to be able to fully participate in volunteering projects due to my soccer games mostly falling on Saturdays, but getting an explanation on how things can be scheduled around my very busy life every so often is refreshing to know. I finally saw myself getting more and more comfortable with a different aspect of school I never expected to enjoy. As I sat at the meeting I found myself becoming more involved and understanding the objectives and the reasonings behind the way the club runs. After the first meeting came to an end, the doubts in my head about whether or not I was going to fit into the ¨ system ¨ slowly left my mind, and were replaced with more anticipation to explore this new aspect of my high school journey.

What has been you experience with Key Club and how has it affected your high school career?
In conclusion, Key Club has done nothing but help me and my high school adventure. It creates a warm environment for students, and it makes me feel prepared and connected with my school and community.

I have been a member of Key Club since I was a freshman. It has certainly improved my high school career. Throughout my experience, I have made many friendships, and I have become more involved in the community.
Key Club was the first club I signed up for when I began high school. At first, I was hesitant to be involved because it seemed intimidating, but after attending the first meeting, I made some friends who all seemed highly welcoming. Now, I look forward to going to our club meetings every other week, especially when we have parties with little games and snacks because I always have a good time. Sometimes, I even go out with friends after the meetings to grab a bite. In addition, I feel I have become more engaged in our local community. Going out to volunteer on the weekends honestly feels refreshing. It is particularly entertaining when you go with your friends. While volunteering, you get to learn quite a lot about local organizations and what they bring to the community. Along with that, you get to meet and connect with different people. When I am finished volunteering, I always feel proud and happy with myself. Furthermore, Key Club has helped me have a better high school experience. I run into and have classes with the friends that I made in the club. It causes me to feel more involved with not just the community, but also with the school. Attending the meetings never feels like a chore. Being in the club automatically connects you with a lot of other students, so you never feel alone in the chaos of high school.
