About the YWCA
The YWCA Greater Harrisburg has been serving the needs of the community for 135 years. Today, we have programs that are empowering women and transforming the lives of more than 35,000 individuals each year.
Our programs including housing services for homeless women and children; violence intervention and prevention programs for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking; free civil legal services for victims; supervised visitation for families; Pre-K Counts and afterschool programs for children; supported employment programs; and housing and employment services for veterans.
Our success is not possible without the support of the community and people who are committed to helping women, children and families thrive in our communities. Every year, we hold a variety of events to raise money in support of our programs. YWCA Events
Throughout the year, the YWCA Greater Harrisburg holds several events and other fundraisers to raise money for our programs and services. Yearly events include:
Tribute to Women of Excellence (TWE)
Each year, this event honors 25 Central PA women who make a difference in their communities. Money raised through this event funds all of the programs of the YWCA. Held in March.
21 Day Challenge
This challenge is designed to create dedicated time and space to build effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege and leadership. Every day, for 21 days, participants receive emails filled with articles and information aimed at raising awareness and prompting meaningful conversations about racism and social justice. Held in April, leading up to the virtual Race Against Racism. Proceeds benefit our racial justice programs.
Veterans Stand Down
This event provides a variety of services and basic needs to homeless and at-risk veterans in the community. Usually held in the Spring, this event offers community services such as health care and a job fair to veterans. Proceeds benefit our Veterans Services.
Cards with Heart
Each year, we create a “Card with Heart” from artwork or photography from a local female artist. Cards are sold throughout the community and proceeds benefit our emergency shelter.
Week Without Violence
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month with the third week designated as the Week Without Violence, a global movement with YWCA’s across the country and around the world to end violence against women, girls and people of color. Each year, to kick off the Week Without Violence, we hold a First Responders Breakfast to honor those that work with us to combat violence in our communities. Proceeds benefit our Violence Intervention and Prevention Programs.
Pursuit of Justice Purse Auction
One of our signature events, this annual fundraiser benefits the YWCA’s free, civil legal services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. This event utilizes both live and silent auctions to sell designer purses and accessories and raise critical funds.

Give the gift of one night’s safe shelter for a mother and her children. Our Cards With Heart program benefits our emergency shelter programs. Each year, we create a “Card with Heart” from artwork or photography from a local female artist and sell the cards throughout the community. We will also host a reception in the Spring honoring the photographer we’ve chosen for 2025. Plans are currently underway and more details will be provided.
