FREESTANDING RESTAURANT

Everything evolves from history. The way we appreciate history is to take the valuable elements from it and combine them with new technologies. That is the balance of tradition and modernity. Forms might be the same, but materials might be different; colors might be the same, but textures might be different; themes might be the same, but feelings might be different. This idea was derived from the famous Brazilian chef - Alex Atala, who specializes in combining and challenging traditional Amazon ingredients with modern cooking methods. This inspiration starts the concept model and the restaurant design - a play of the balance between solid/white parts and intricate lines in perfect transition, fusion, and comparison.

LIVE-WORK SPACE

Animals have been companions of human beings for over 20,000 years. The strong connection is the start of this story. This 4-story building located in Cincinnati is designed to be a cat selling store. It is a new concept for traditional pet stores, where most of the pets are kept in cages looking forward to being picked up. In this special cat store, experience for both cats and customers is valued. Located at the first and second floor, cats are raised freely - they do not have to stay in cages, instead, they are free to walk around. Customers can choose their favorite cats while walking through the “cat walking way“- the stairs connecting the first and second floors.

The bottom two floors serve as the cat store. The three perspectives lead the viewers to go through the space from the front entrance on the first floor to the cashier’s desk on the second floor. The floor plans go with the perspectives, which expresses the craziness of the space.

The top two floors are de-signed for a living space. With the same concept, the space is designed to make friends connection tighter. This concept is achieved through utilizing the entire third floor as a party or gathering space. In this way, the bedroom, located on the loft, is partly separated from the main space. In spite of this, the owner is not completely separated from it because part of the third floor is still within his / her sight.

ART ROOM RENOVATION

This is a renovation proposal for the art room in Cincinnati Moeller High School. After visiting the site, the and chairs placed around. Therefore, one idea came up in my mind - a new and fresh art room in terms of

Firstly, people generally associate the white color with freshness. So by painting the wall white, the origin white color paint would make the space fresh and new again. Secondly, from the space stand point, the ut encourage air circulation into in the space. In addition, big folding doors allow better ventilation. Finally, f adjustable curtains help the students and teachers to create different configurations to serve different fun

nal room will be brighter. When the room gets messy, repainting it with the tilization of the outdoor space combined with interior green plants would freshness could also be achieved by different layouts. Movable desks and nctions.

EDG WORK

EDG is an American based restaurant design company. Working in Singapore office was a challenge but a precious experience for me. During the three months of internship, my AutoCAD has improved dramatically through customized furniture drawings. I was engaged in client meeting with bi-directional language translation between English and Mandarin. I worked on different phases of design ranging from schematic design, design development, construction document to construction administration. Specific work includes renderings, material organization, AutoCad plan and furniture drawings, and specification work.

ESA WORK

ESa is a healthcare design company. So the majority of work I did there was related to healthcare, both in construction documents and design development documents. Thanks to this precious opportunity working in ESa, I did learn a lot of disciplines including specific codes, particular material selections, etc. I mostly focused on rendering floor plans, elevations, and perspectives. I also began to learn about a lot of special materials in healthcare field.

INSERTION

This is a project in which we are supposed to design an addition to an existing building on our campus. This addition needs to be somehow inserted or has structural relationships with the existing building. The concept of this design is derived from the shape of the original building - trapezoid. Every surface of this insertion is composed of trapezoid shapes. In order to introduce more light into the space, apertures are added. Meanwhile, stairs and little platforms are designed to provide different levels for people to watch outside the space.

Fashion Design Sketches

Fashion design is my second dream field. In my opinion, fashion design is tied with interior design because the latter is the body of architecture while the former is the body of structure. They are both dealing with bodies and aesthetics. Even fashion trends lead the interior design or decoration trends. Seeking these trends is fascinating to me since it gives me inspirations for my own design from daily life. These are three series of fashion design I have sketched in my free time. The first series on this spread is named Hairstyle. The idea was derived from different haircuts that I learned in drawing manga. The second series is called Flower for the shape of the dresses mimics upside down flowers. The third series is called Triangle since all parts of the cloth are of triangular shapes.
