LIVE-WORK SPACE

This is a live-work space design project for a 4-storey building located in downtown Cincinnati. The purpose of the project is to design the place combining living and working spaces for a person or a family. The design concept is “bond”, meaning the development of relationship between cats and human beings. It is a new concept for traditional pet stores where most of the pets are kept in cages looking forward to being picked up. In this special cat store, located at the first and second floor, cats are raised freely - they do not have to stay in cages, instead, they are free to walk around. Customers can choose their favorite cats while taking a good look around in the store. Since stairs are designed to mimic cats’ walking path, customers can experience the way cats walk. The design of the lower two floors with a staircase connecting them “bonds” people and cats in a special way.

The first two floors serve as the cat store. The three perspectives lead the viewers to go through the space from the front entrance on the first floor to the cashier desk on the second floor. The floor plans go with the perspectives, which expresses the craziness of the space.

The upper two floors are designed for a living space. With the same concept but in a different space, “bond makes the connection among friends or families stronger. This concept is achieved through utilizing the entire third floor as a party or gathering space. In this way, the bedroom, located on the loft, is partly separated from the main space. In spite of this, the owner is not completely separated from it because part of the third floor is still within his / her sight.

ART ROOM RENOVATION

This project is to renovate an art room of Moeller High School, located in Cininnati. The proposal of the de ness in terms of aesthetics, space and functionality. As for my design concept, “starting fresh could be r layouts.

Firstly, people generally associate the white color with freshness, and it also helps to calm people down. room gets messy, repainting it with the white color paint would make the space fresh again. Secondly, fre space combined with interior green plants would introduce the fresh air into the space. In additon, big fo by different layouts. esign is to improve the space based on the original design to achieve freshrepresented from three different aspects of the space: color, air quality, and

So by painting the wall white, the original room will be brighter. When the eshness also means fresh air in the room. So the utilization of the outdoor olding doors allow better ventilation. Finally, freshness could also be achieved erent configurations to serve different functions.

ESA WORK

This is what I have done during my second internship in Earl Swensson Associates (ESa). ESa is a healthcare design focused company. So the majority of work I did there was related to healthcare, whether construction documents or design development documents. Thanks to this precious opportunity working in ESa, I did learn a lot of disciplines including specific codes, particular material selections, etc. The first two elevations are for a typical hospital restroom. Porcelain tiles are applied to both the wall and the floors. Anti-microbial solid surface is used on sink tops. Plastic laminates are applied to cover the casework. Colorful mosaics make the space more vivid.

This is a series of renderings designed for a pediatric department. I was involved in the design process with one designer, including making the decision of material selection, and paint color selection for the space.

SEQUENCE

The purpose of this project is to combine a series of pictures to convey an idea of sequence. My idea of concrete sequence is created by using different landscape images, with a singular element connecting adjacent pictures. For the abstract sequence, the line going through the sequence links the spatial sequence together and helps create depth.

INSERTION

This is a project in which we are supposed to design an addition to an existing building on our campus. This addition needs to be somehow inserted or has structural relationships with the existing building. The concept of this design is derived from the shape of the original building - trapezoid. Every surface of this insertion is composed of trapezoid shapes. In order to introduce more light into the space, apertures are added. Meanwhile, stairs and little platforms are designed to provide different levels for people to watch outside the space.

Fashion Design Sketches

Fashion design is my second dream field. In my opinion, fashion design is tied with interior design because the latter is the body of architecture while the former is the body of structure. They are both dealing with bodies and aesthetics. Even fashion trends lead the interior design or decoration trends. Seeking these trends is fascinating to me since it gives me inspirations for my own design from daily life. These are three series of fashion design I have sketched in my free time. The first series on this spread is named Hairstyle. The idea was derived from different haircuts that I learned in drawing manga. The second series is called Flower for the shape of the dresses mimics upside down flowers. The third series is called Triangle since all parts of the cloth are of triangular shapes.
