WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. (Maximum 100 words) The three elementary types of developable surfaces are cones, cylinders and the tangent surfaces of space curve. First of all, the cone consists of simple relations of parallel lines and sometimes combined the polygon, which is the roll up shape contain a vertex. Second, the cylinders are also the rolled up shape but formed by parallel lines. Lastly, tangent surfaces of space curves are formed from the tangent and retaining a vanishing Gaussian curvature.

Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. (Maximum 100 words) Understanding of developable surface is critical in the understanding of architecture geometry since it expand upon the basic type of geometrics, therefore it is able to create surfaces that appear curved. In addition, the economical values in terms of its readily available and cheap materials, such as the card paper, can easily to be folded in to the form that desiered during the stage of model-making.

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? (Maximum 100 words) Digital fabrication refers to using digital data in computer to control the fabrication process of design. It iprove the effeciency in design in terms of it changed the understanding of dimensional representation into 3 dimensional models. It shorten the time meanwhile does not affect the quality of the final design.

Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? (Maximum 100 words) Firstly, folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design because it creates interesting texture to the building, which produce the previeew of the space that designer may generate more creative idea. Second, Folding is also versatile that enables the desiger to crate a wide range pf shapes with little restriction.
