WEEK 9 READING: TITLE OF READING

Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) Durer presents three rules for perspectival projection, which are both connect to the vashing point. Firstly, all orthogonals in perspectival projection should intersect at vashing point. Secondly, all parallels are share one comman vanishing point. Lastly, if the eye points is located, any part of the image are able to be measured based on the preceding one.

Question 2: Describe homogenous space? (Maximum 100 words)

The homagenous space is a absolutely mathematical representative of true space, that is abstracted from reality, It is the insubstantial space produced by construction. According to Panofsky in this book, homogrnous space is the never given space, but space produced by construction.

INVISIBLE CITY:TRADING CITIES-ERSILIA

The original text gives a clear sense of Ersilia: Abandoned, ruined, and covered with strings. However, this text might attract for further critical thinking: what cause the Ersilia become aan ruined city? Why they are so many refugees? The culprit could be the strings, which represent their blood, authority, power, wealth etc. Therefore, I try to create a perspective about the hidden things of text that directly told us. Althouth it is a personal imagination, create a place that not just arrcrding to the text itself mioght be more interesting.

OLD QUAD ISOMETRIC

This is an isometric view from south-east perspective. Derive the original old quad model, I create a basement in the middle, linked each other by lines, and design a labyrinth in it to refelct the story.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2 (LINE WORK) This perspective is the first view that Marco Polo seen. A lonely man seating by the side looking across the former city of Ersilia. This sense indicates that even this man has authority and wealth, he was also inprison by the strings of relationship, he is still melancholy, due to the strings also restricts his freedom.

This is the perspective of the other site in Ersilia. The terror version shows the harsh situation of Ersilia’s refugees which are he majority in Ersilia. the bones of dead and strange animals are laied on the ground, refugees are struggling for the better life by cross through the labyrinth--the power relation. But mostly of them failed then becoome a skull.

PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2

DIspite the text had give a clear picture about the Ersilia, it is suspectable that the money power exchange cause the complex relationship, otherwise the strings cannot be such numerous. Therefore it might be another part in Ersilia with the soft place and wealth, but the people live in there also restricked by the strings. This situation that Marco Polo first observed is that a pensive man seat toward the outside lonely. Even he has a great piles of money, but loss his freedom due to the complex “string”. the complex relationship is the burdensome of people.

On the other extremes in Ersilia looks like a hell. The characters, items and texture I used in this perspective are are aming to create a terrifying sense to reflect the harsh situation of Ersilia: It is bleak and desolated, the refugees are begging for money or trying to cross through the labyrinth, and the bone are laying everywhere. Near the city, there is another “former Ersilia” which already covered with the numerous strings that impossibloe to pass among.

WEEK 4 READING: TITLE OF READING Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: IWhat is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words) According to philosopher Nelson Goodman, autoographic practices can be defined by the artfrms, such as sculpture and paint, which directly involve the physical work of the artist. In contrast, as for allographic works of art, such as music and poetry are depend upon the use of natation form, are capable for recreation at a distance from the author. In general, they are characterised by the use of notation and reinterpreation.

Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words) With the rapid development in technology, traditional representations will no longer work for the static city in this day. In order to map the intangible network such as the flowing information and money, the new technology related to the presentation are neede to solve the dispersion and complication, depict this steady flow of data. The new technician skill are requierd to show the new dynamics of contemporary city and concrete realms of our modern society.

FINAL DRAWINGS Trade CiTies 4: ersilia Yuwen Xiao 964557

The poster includes my final isometric and perspective drawings. Overall, it is intresting to present a story by two perspective image and 1 isometric view with notations. It is a good skill to represent your design work.

WORK INSPIRED BY...

Before the start of work, I had search some imagination of invisable city on line and tehy help me to erect the original plan that what I want to create, and give a clear picture of Ersilia, as well as the way to represent the “strings in story.
